How about drive/push your grapple straight into the ground, under a big rock, grappling it and pulling it out of the ground??

NO problem at all, for pallet forks with matching grapple...

I would like to have that setup on the BACK of my tractor. (Preferably with a matching hydraulic winch.)

Pallet forks with a "matching" grapple work perfectly for that use...

From time to time, I use mine just for that purpose...

As effectively as a root grapple? if so I may reconsider my next purchases. I don't have a few stumps... I have eleven piles stacked 10 feet tall and about the same in diameter. The stumps are all different sizes, and I suspect there are quite a few large rocks mixed in.
It's going to be a major project this summer reclaiming the soil, then using the debris to fill a low area.

forks have their place, so does a grapple, and there is not one type of grapple that is best for all situations.

rob i do stack bales and grub rocks with mine, though i prefer a bale spear for bales. and we don't have many rocks here but i can do similar with stumps though forks or a smaller grapple work better

It's NOT about IF the machine will do the work, it's about whether or not pallet forks with a matching grapple will do all the work posted here...

My experience is, YES, my pallet forks with matching grapple is one tool that replaces all the tools shown here. I can leave it on and do all the jobs shown here, AND pick some BIG rocks, that are down into the ground, not those little flat rocks shown in the pict...

So far, I haven't seen anything here that my tool won't also do, so why buy several tools to replace one?

I have seen that done with a root grapple; my neighbor put vinyl siding on his entire building. My question isn't whether it can be done; rather, can it be done efficiently on a large scale project such as what I'm facing this summer. And with all due respect, your equipment is much bigger than tractors which many of us own.

For big piles of stumps and soil to sort I'd think hard about a wide, curved-bottom, two-lid grapple, with fairly wide tooth space. And you probably don't need a heavy, HD one either thus saving lift capacity you'll need. :2cents:

Edit: wide for efficiency. Two lids for big irregular stumps. Wide spacing to sift out soil.

Thanks on both points. In all of my years online (since 2001) I had never even considered blocking anybody until today.
More importantly I hadn't thought about what to get for a grapple beyond the point of needing one, so you have gotten me thinking in that direction.

So do you have a grapple or grapple forks for it? Why don’t you leave? You’ve made no meaningful contributions and have been trouble for the start. And you’ve only got a tinker toy loader. Try comparing it to a 988 cat or bigger.
