about how it felt too

That Kubota wants to run with the big dogs and it looks like it was handling it okay. Level ground and brush moving helps

I have similar pics. The day this guy took delivery of the fat, heavy grapple, he called and ordered a Wicked Grapple from me.
He ate a little crow because I had told him so, but I didn't rub it in.......much.

One of the grapple manufactures has a spring thingy that sticks straight up to hold the hoses out of the way. I cannot recall who. It flexes as the tension in the hoses change. Is that spring available anywhere? I would like to retire my bungy cord.

EA has a nice long one as does Bradco. You can (and I have) buy a shorter one from Skid Stear Attachments online at a reasonable price.

Mine looks well made but I haven't gotten around to mounting it. I think I found the EA part price to be distasteful but can't remember for sure.

Really liking this WR Long 48 wide grapple with a 44 opening. It can take a BIG bite and yet easily fit between my wheel wells in my pickup to move between properties (I have 3) that I will use it on.

Finally got to use my home built stump bucket grapple and I’m super happy with it. Now I can join in this thread. The rock is about the biggest I can lift with my poor little L2501

Not sure why the thumbnails are sideways but if you click on the image they are in the right orientation.

Very nice, indeed! Would love to see some more pics of your grapple empty, to show your handiwork better.

About the thumbnail orientation, this happens to me as well when I upload an image to TBN from a computer file, although not always. Very puzzling. Maybe other TBN'rs can advise on why this happens.

Ok I searched thread but with 1715 postings I may have missed this so sorry if its a repeat. Have a 09 Kubota L3400 with LA643 FEL(1100+ lbs lift). Most grapples seam to run around 500lbs so that only leaves 600lbs of load. Not sure how much a normal load of brush/trees weighs but any input on anyone finding the heavy grapple(compared to a 100lb bucket) really limits your loads. Or do you normally find most loads that fit in grapple are under the 600 limit.

Remember it's not just your high-lift, and even level carrying capacity that is affected. It affects your break-out force also, when you're trying to cut roots and loosen small stumps. There are lighter, tough grapples that might suit you better.

Brush isn't very heavy. My TORO+Loader will lift 800 pounds with extra counter weight on the back.

It lifted these oak trees easily with the normal counter weight:

This 26' cedar tree weighed 550 pounds:

For your LA643 loader I would get a grapple in the 3XX pound range. My WR Long OBG2 48” is something like 375 lbs. EA makes them in that range and a little under. I went with WR long to get the 48” width so it would fit between the wheel wells in my pickup so that I can easily move it between properties. If that is not a need for you , EA’s start at (I think) 54” wide. They do not open as wide however. Both are good brands. WR along opens to 44”. Once you use any grapple you will appreciate a wide (vertical) opening.
