I'm interested in getting a root grapple for L39. I'm thinking a 60" would be plenty big enough even though the dirt bucket is 72". Any opinions?? I'm looking at WildKat Attachments line, appears to be the best bang for the buck but I can't find much research from previous buyers.

Welcome to TBN:D

Search around in the attachments forum-this is discussed all the time! One VERY popular grapple is from Markham Welding, MANY satisfied customers!

Do a search for the term "markham" for HOURS of reading.

Island Tractor where are you at?:) He would tell you really only need a 48" grapple. There are actually several advantages to going this direction. I have an L39 with a 48" grapple and have never wished I had a wider one. Good Luck.

I took Island Tractor's advice and bought a narrow grapple for my L-39, and I love it.

Specifically, I bought Markham Welding's Extreme Gator Mini Rake, which can be seen at:

It's only as wide as the skid-steer mount, but I've never wished that it was wider. Yes, one has to be careful when driving into piles of brush that nothing punctures the grille (done that once) or worse. But the weight-savings vs. a wider grapple allows me to pick up so much more.
