Most of you recall that my "city boy" grandson came to live with us ... he is now 14. Grades in school are A's and B's with an occasional C ... thats good compared to the F's when he first came here. He is playing sports, gaining confidence and friends ... Not to mention he has become my right hand.

This morning about 9:30 the school calls and reports that he has managed to let off a stink bomb in his first hr class (he's a freshman this year)... well I explode and tell them I am on my way to get him and I will deal with this.

The lady on the phone tells me to settle down ... he will have 3 days of in house suspension. He is in a room, no other students and they will bring his lunch to him, no extra activities and will not be participating in the Thursdays ball game ... I asked if the principle had given him a good whipping? No we don't do that!

Then I sat down in the shop and started laughing ... darn thats something I would have done!!

So I've decided he's having hard time in school for the crime and I plan on asking him this evening how his day went ... when he tells me about it, I'm going to tell him that it sounds like the school has it under control ... so lets get our chores done...and leave it at that.

When I told his grandma ... she too started laughing and said well maybe he is a typical 14 yr old afterall.

Your right!! I find myself everyday doing things that I probably wouldn't be doing if it wasn't for him ... shooting baskets (with the ball not the gun) throwing a baseball ... not to mention just finding more projects and expanding the farming.

This one is a "step grandson" so I don't see myself ... I do see alot of his grandma in him.

I must be wearing off on him cause alot of people say to him 'Okay Then Junior" When his mother does see him ... she always says "Geez grandpa jr"

This weekend his sister came out for a visit she's 10 ... I heard him several times telling her "be carefull" "No do it like this" even heard "Come on Hustle"

Yes, If you let out a Blue word, you can never reverse the process either...They are paying attention unless they have the electronic game in their hands? My least one (3) is always handing me tools or bringing me things i have used...Priceless.

When he came home I asked him how his day went ... well he told me the whole deal and it seems as though peer pressure played a role. He asked me if I ever done anything that .. well as soon as you did it you knew it was wrong?

Good kid ...

When he said goodbye this morning ... I said Have a good day bomber!! He had no reply.

I suppose its almost like "jail lock down" for him the next couple days ... I forgot about this. He said last night that one of the boys in school used a can of deodorant and a lighter to shoot out a flame. He said "He was told not to do that again, I set off a stink bomb and I get 3 days." All I could say was ... "well I wasn't there so i can't judge that"

This is a classic case of "life ain't fair!" You know that, and I know that, but it's tough lesson for a youngster to learn but it's one of those lessons that has to be learned, sometime. He'll be all right and the "jail lock down" will cool his jets for awhile. 'Bout 6 months worth, I'd guess...

Thanks for sharing this, good read! Reminds me of times with my boy, who's now 19 and not a boy anymore. FWIW, I'd have handled it the exact same way...
