grain auger

Anyone have any experience building a portable grain auger? Looking to make one approx. 20' long and operated by electric motor. Any suggestions or pics would be great.

I see these things all over the place in my travels. Can you not find one to buy? Even if you have to rebuild it? I would think building from scratch would be quite a challenge.

How 'bout buying an auger and taking up chess?

Just kidding, but that seems like it will be a heck of a challenge. I can picture how these things work and maybe even how to build one. I'm sure the trick is wrapping the flighting. It's probably roll formed in production units to be able to use flat strip steel and maintain the consistent diameters.

It does sound fun, please provide pictures if you proceed.

4 or 5 inch, they sell for $20 at most any farm auction I go to.
