I am not sure on the size of the coulter now I would have to measure it but somewhere between 18-24" I would guess.

You can't see the lower 3/4" bolt in the plow, it is covered by the swing arm, but if the little top bolt shears it pivots on the bottom bolt until it hits a stop between the plates (before crashing the rear tube).

Is it possible that something similar to this being used by county tractors in the ditches east of Elk City. They were pulling something looking similar that leaves a small furrow. Between Elk City and all the way past Clinton so more than one county using the same implement all around the ditches. We were working on a house and the front yard is riddled with gopher holes but the tractors lifted the implement out of the ground till it got past their yard then continued in the ditches.

Had it out again the other day, the sand has done a little smoothing over the last decade.

Stainless on the drive wheel seems to have worked out too.

No sheared bolts but a ‘48 8N isn’t a power house either. If you operate one of these and do snag something, when you back up, you must clear the drop tube. Note: that piece of bailing wire in the hole right above the top link, on the 3 pt. If you don’t, dirt can pack the hole the seeds are suppose to drop through, into the tunnel.

The torque of a gas engine (none) and no low range, severely limits the usefulness of the N series. Before WW2 most popular tractors here were Lanz Bulldog hotbulbs. They didnt have many gears, but once they stalled, you pushed the clutch, waited for the flywheel to pick up speed, and then have another yank at it, which lasted several yards, so when you were stuck, you'd ask the neighbour with the Lanz and not the one with the Ferguson TEF...

Lanz eventually faded, they outlasted the operator. It wasnt just good, but also harsh on the operator. In 58 or 59 they were bought out by John Deere which builds 5 and 6 series tractors in the Mannheim plant till this day.

Thank you. That's SO MUCH better. That's an interesting contraption. I'm currently dealing with Moles on my 3/4 fenced acre, tearing my place up, so your post got my attention.
