I loves me a good solidworks model. I'm working on rough models of all my implements, so I can build an "implement shed"/shelving.

I gotta check out this solidworks thing. I'll Google it and educate myself. I fabricate, but on a small scale than your project.

I finally decided on 29.25" as being ideal for my spring length... But somehow when I welded them on, I put them at 26, which was the actual spring length. Oops...

As a guy that measures & cuts one thing or another pretty much all day long, in a rush with the tape measure going left to right your mind can see the up side down 9 as a six:D Believe me I know.
You have a very nice design (and build) going on there. That minor interruption of the flat bed with the fenders is well worth it for the low deck hight. You are hereby pardoned from your measuring oops and absolved from any ridicule or blame now & in the future, at least from me:thumbsup:

Looks good!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's workbench looks like that! LOL

I didn't see anything like that in any of the reading I did... As I understand it, the requirements are as follows:

VIN Inspection
(to verify trailers does not have a VIN)

Affidavit Certifying Ownership é„*CO
(to attest to the ownership of lien free trailer)
Or in my case, reciepts for materials used in constructing it...

Weight Certificate

Affidavit of Specially Constructed or Reconstructed Vehicle
(to verify that trailer is homemade or shop built)

Vehicle Equipment Affirmation
(to verify that trailer meets all safety standards)

MVD will assign a New Mexico Vehicle Identification Number
(to be able to identify the trailer by its VIN).

A Motor Vehicle Division employee must affix the identification plate (I think it's a sticker...) eight inches from the ball hitch on the left side of the trailer tongue frame. The owner should be advised to permanently stamp the number on the tongue.

If that fails, I'm moving to CO in 6 months, so I'll just change my address a little earlier and register it there. :)

Good deal, on the paper work. Trailer looks great too.

Solidworks is a 3d modelling package. Very popular due to its ease of use and "low" price. Guessing at $5k purchase and $1200 per year maintenance. I have it at work......

I put it in quotes for a reason! Compared to others like ideas or slo......I mean, pro-E, it's cheap. I use it 8+ hours a day. Good times!

Great looking trailer you have here and building it yourself you know what you have. I like how you built it a little lower than most.

Well, Time for the latest installment...
Last Tues I primed it, and those pictures are above. Wed I painted it red. Started at 1PM, finished about 5:30 by the light of the tractor... It's Rustoleum Sunrise Red, so I can buy rattle cans to touch it up, or to make changes. :)

This weekend I put the axles under it, welded jacks on the front, and got a bunch of the wiring work done.
Project will be on hold until after Thanksgiving... I have a power steering hose to replace on my truck, a fuel line to replace on the wife's truck, and then we are heading to Utah for four days of camping and hiking!

Very nice trailer build.
What are you going to use for the deck? Metal or wood.

Chris, love the color, looking good!!!! Painting something like that is extremely time consuming, LOT of surface area and most of it hard to get to. :)

Thanks! I did spend a lot of time crawling/laying under it... Not real fun, but it's done. :)

I'll use regular yellow pine. Metal decks too slick, and this way I can screw or nail cribbing to it if needed.
Living out here, virtually in the desert, if you can keep the sun from destroying it, wood lasts just about forever. My plan is to treat it with Thompson's WaterSeal, in Coastal Gray. Should look nice, and last 15 years or more.

I am not looking forward to drilling 300 holes for the deck screws...

I replaced a deck on a trailer and used screws that drill their own holes thru the wood and metal. One step process.

They were Midwest Fastener brand, Self-Drilling Screws, 1/4x2-1/2".

Lowes has the self drilling screws for trailer decking. The problem with pine decking in the southwest is the same as everywhere else, it gets torn up easily. Next time I change my deck I am thinking about Poplar if I can find it in a construction grade.

Nice paint job.

I don't think the self drilling screws are going to like going through the 4.1# channel I used... I thought they really only work well in material 1/8" thick or less. My crosses are quite a bit thicker than that where the screws will go.

When I decked my trailer, I used self tappers. Not to be confused with self drillers.

You still need a pilot hole. Then the impact driver and T-40 bit made quick work.

Around here, white oak, rough sawn is what gets used on equipment trailers. Cost about the same as treated pine, but holds up better.

Yeah, possibly. I'm not sure of the dimensions of the steel I was working with.

You may be correct about the description "self tappers" as it has been a few years since I purchased them. The drill bit section is a tap size and these are appropriate for the OP's needs. I have used them on 5.4 lb. channel with out problems.

I would very much prefer the white oak boards but shipping to New Mexico would be a problem.
