gooseneck conversion

anyone ever convert a bumper pull equipment trailer to a gooseneck..i have a 20 ft.. that i want to convert...i have alot of 6 " chanel .. i was told that it would not be strong enough for the gooseneck ...any thoughts ??? thanks

Another consideration is that the axles on a bumper pull and gooseneck are placed at different points under the trailer. A gooseneck's axles tend to be farther towards the back of the trailer to give more tongue weight. A typical bumper pull has 10% tongue weight and a gooseneck has 15-20%.

I think I would take a look at factory goosenecks on a dealer lot somewhere to see what size steel they use. I think they use bigger material.

Also sounds like a lot of heavy work.

Why on earth would you want a 20ft deck gooseneck.. anyhow.. the 30 footer i have sure has a lot of heavy iron in the gooseneck area..

its all 10 inch by 5 inch I beam.. my 2305 cant budge the front of the trailer..

Another thing to keep in mind.. there is a big difference in how strong a true c channel is or a c channel that was bent into a c. anything bent to make a c i would NOT use in the hitch building part of your project.

I do not know if this will help but i have a 20 ft goose neck 7 ton it has 8" c channel and i have seen longer trailers in the same weight class with 10" c channel if you are going to covert one you need to be sure you add all the bracing. I think you can buy some plans for a goose neck trailer you should be able to adapt them to your needs.
