Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 13C and it's presently just 18.2C, overcast with no predicted rain & calm.

I got off my backside yesterday arvo to do that '5 minute job' of trimming a few tree branches. 3 hours later... and that was just cutting them off, it'll probably take me a couple of arvos to collect/dispose of them. It's amazing how many more branches make their presence known when you have a lopper or pole saw in your hand.

So, that'll be today's task; to start gathering up the branches.

That's about it, take care all.

We've got a neighbour that moved up here from Montreal two years ago. She was commenting on how cold it was this morning, in the -5°F range. I told her that we've had it colder and she said "spoken like a true northerner". -5 isn't all that cold, not when I've personally seen -50°F here and colder still in Alberta in the late 70s.
All I did today was conserve energy. Tomorrow will go to the dump and town. I missed the 80 million dollar draw, one person in Ontario won it but it wasn't me. I didn't get my ticket until Wednesday, the draw was on Tuesday. :(
There will be another draw on Friday but not for 80 million, only 46 million dollars. That is still enough for me to buy a new tractor.

Paul , a new welder, lots of dials very nice.

Thats actually the old welder that I gave away. The new one is similar, same brand, but more features and higher capacity, 325amp, up from 225.
The 225 was a great machine, i upgraded more out of want than need, and a black friday deal put me over the edge.

Good evening all. 41ºF for the start, clear sky, light breeze. Light wind, sky became overcast in afternoon, and high temp was 69ºF. Made coffee to start day, office work, mate Creme of Wheat/ Malt-o-Meal mix for breakfast, watched recorded news, put new leaf vac together, and used it . Worked very well. Bike ride 40 miles averaged 15 mph. Got dishes cleaned up and pasta cooked foe Wednesday's spaghetti sauce.

Scotty, down here, whenever you had the natural gas people turn your gas on, they would come in and light all pilot lights and inspect that they operated properly. I know your's is propane, so different situation.
That is what I always liked about gas service.

got the indoor decorations put away including the tree,
That just reminded me that my wife asked me to take the Christmas decorations to storage and I put them in the truck and completely forgot about it. They are still in a huge zippered bag in the back of my truck. That will have to be my first job in the morning.

Son and DIL came over for dinner, dry rubbed and grilled pork chops.
Those pork chops look delicious!

Wag, isn't it amazing how a tree seems to double or triple in size when you get it on the ground?

Well, it's 2am almost so Good Morning!

Had a great New Years Day! Our granddaughter really enjoyed the Delicious tortilla soup, enchilidas, chili, tamales. Real Texas comfort food!

I almost hate to mention how nice our weather has been here lately. Looks like Friday will be another nice one. Should be up to 77F and clear, sunny. I have to say though that Texas is sometimes known to throw a snow tantrum in late January or February so there is still time.

Everyone have a wonderful first Friday of 2026! Prayers for our Nation!

Frist cup of coffee has been poured. 17° with light snow falling this morning. Heading to 22° with cloudy skies. Plugged block heater on tractor to warm it up before starting it yesterday. Did not take long to clear walkways and driveway. Checked temperature just after sunrise. -5° Brrrrr. Got the plowing done quickly. Bakc into house to get warmed up. Going have to do some walkway cleanup today. May get some shop time in. Need to make a mounting bracket for new bird feeder I got for Christmas.
Bird seed bell did not last long.

good morning all
a chilly 18 out and second morning I'm waking up to snow flurries.
Gosh, you'd think I was at Arly's camp... ;)
at least the wind has died down.
and it's not minus something like many of you

need to go food shopping today and depending upon weather, will go check on the rv.
if more snow actually came down, vs a radar fakeout, will not work on outside lights today.
not doing that with snow on them

have another molar that started aching. Took two penicillin, that usually makes it all go away.
My teeth are really worn out and I can't afford ten grand to look all pearly white. Kinda like dealing with
a car with 300k miles, learned to take it easy on what I bite into. Every time something goes wrong usually winds
up with root canal, and 3 grand later I'm simply out of pain. But surely no better.

Frits, hope your wife is doing better. Does the cold weather affect her condition?

Mostly, do you have a favorite ride?

hope you all have a great day, the second day of the year.

the fire tragedy in Switzerland is awful, reports of narrow winding staircases, people unable to get out in time.

one of the first things I learned as a fireman was to make sure I knew where the way out was, avoiding getting trapped.
Every time I go in a large public place, first thing I do is look for doors.
When Ken tells me he is going to the theater in New Hope, in that old building, local firemen always knew if it lit off, very
hard to put out, like a barn catching fire, and it's right on the River so can't get trucks on other side.
And we sure don't have fireboats in our little river town.
So Ken, always look for doors out of there.

same thing in the Big Apple

Good Tractor Morning,
wife is worn out from entertaining last night
Billy, me at 64 and Kathleen at 72 just entertained 4 adults and 4 grands for the past 5 days , then we cleaned the carnage after they left yesterday morning and then drove back to Ct fir 3 1/2 hrs. Yes we are beat. 😉
Scotty, down here, whenever you had the natural gas people turn your gas on, they would come in and light all pilot lights and inspect that they operated properly
Kyle, wouldn’t that be nice ! 😃
Bill and Scott, square gears??????
Mostly, Square Gears, is just another way to say the truck shifts with difficulty 😉 Bill was a professional truck driver , me, I’m a converted toolmaker/ model maker , who after almost 40 years working inside that I was going to be a truck driver. I was referring to a Mack Cab Over that could not be reved, you had to shift at low rpm and double clutch, although Bill could probably do it without even shifting.
I remember training on that truck and the guy riding with me telling me that it’s going to be a long day if you can’t get the truck into the next gear ! 😉😂

great story Scott.
I am reminded of the story I have told here, maybe once too many times...
of being given the keys to a Ford triaxle sod boom truck at age 19, no CDL, never
drove a truck before, and owner of business asked me where I was going to
college. I told him Brown. He threw the keys to me and said I ought to be smart enough
to figure it out.
And I was, barely.
Ford had that red button I guess for overdrive or gear splitting, red knob on the shifter I had
to figure out. Big gas engine.

one thing I didn't know was you never turned your truck engine off, like the truckers today know in cold weather.
I had an engine problem or some problem and pulled off side of road and called my boss. After I turned off the engine.
Which then would not start. Maybe a dead battery? After yelling at me for turning off engine, boss shows up with his Buick 225 with a chain and pulled truck into road where I jump started it in gear. in hindsight, geez what an abuse of the car's automatic transmission. But it worked. Must have had a 455 under the hood...
