Good Tractor Morning Paul,
Turns out after fighting with a sharp chisel , and deciding to drill them out, that they are LH thread, and when the drill bit grabbed, it spun them right out. No wonder the chisel didn’t work!
Well that was a pleasant surprise 😉

Good morning tbn folks! Got to camp Covington last night in 7 degree temps. Warmed up overnight, 13 now as i sip my pour over stout coffee while 2 dogs are growling and tussling. We got the niehbors dog along this trip. The fellow who is purchasing the Kodiak is predicted to show up here 11 this morning. No idea when all the parts arrive for the new one. It's snowing here now and the warm weather and rain we got this week settled the snow here, but still a nice base. The fresh snow snow made everything pretty again. The resident moose has been hanging around again. Hope everyone's Saturday is good.

Good Tractor Morning Mostly,
I agree with Randy, you’re beating yourself up trying to go through each post and report. Some days I read every post and some days I just don’t have the time. We thank you for all your hard work through the years, but you’re stressing yourself. JMO !
Thanks for everything that you have done 🙏

Good Tractor Morning,
Ct,22 to start going to 38 with some sun by the looks of it. So glad that the wind is gone 🙏

Today I hope to get some antenna work in. It gets dark so early that I need to start mid morning and hopefully get it done before dark returns.

Had a nice visit with the young couple across the street last night. Our friend Kelly takes care of our cat while we go on all these vacations 🙏 We do exchange gifs with them , they are a great couple.

Looks like one leg of one of my antennas dropped a little during the wind and rain storm. Will have to look into that later.

Hope all have a splendid and safe day 🙏

Two suggestions:

Maglite

And

Streamlight

Have never had an issue with either brand and the Maglites are over 30 years old.

They just work.

These are also my 2 favorite brands. I carried a Streamlight 90 degree head flashlight for many years.
"They just work" is a good summary.

Good Morning
23° and sunny, not supposed to get above freezing today, but it will stay sunny. A big change from the 50° and 1-1/4” of rain that we had yesterday, not to mention the wind.

The crazy weather reminded me of a shortcoming in the normally very comfortable radiant floor heat. Between yesterday’s warmth and the previous day of baking, there was no need for the boiler to heat the floor, but with the precipitous drop in temperature, the hysteresis in the mass of the floor causes the room temperature to lag as the floor warms up, like at least overnight, the thermostats are still not satisfied, but catching up. It didn’t help that I ran the heatpump fan to distribute the warm air from the kitchen throughout the old folks home, keeping all of the thermostats satisfied.

I realized that I forgot to show the Olight that I keep in my pocket, here it is with the charging cap stuck to the magnet.
It can go weeks on a charge, and provides more light than a 3 D cell maglight.

Not sure what today will do to keep me busy, but this evening, going to Peddler’s Village for dinner and to see the lights with Grandson.

I've been using this much smaller Olight like yours with a magnetic base that is the switch. Its rechargeable through a USB-A port and lasts for about 1-hour. I really like it for its size and brightness (50 lumens), you don't even know its in your pocket.

The Stream light 90 is the best rechargeable that I've used. Mag light is good as long as you cycle the batteries.

Lol, I'm trying to recall the brand, it started with a g I think. Cheap lights that were disposable that we held to our helmets with innertube back in the 80's and early 90's before all the fancy lights came out.

And then you had the old Carpenter Lights with a 7.5 volt battery.

Good morning, the low is 6 and going p to 28°F. Wind ESE 8 mph. Snow about 4" on top of the 1" we got last night and another 2" we are supposed to get tonight. I guess I will plow tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I will get into today, but rest assured it wont be much.

I agree with you Buppies, the only good snake is a dead snake.

When I was hauling asphalt I had a rechargeable head light that cut through the steam real good. Still have two of them around here someplace. I keep a little rechargeable 6"er in my working coat pocket for checking oil and coolant levels on the tractor.

Have a safe day all

Morning all, 27 going to 39 and sunny.
cable/network is down , working on phone hotspot.
Lot of branches and trees down. One fell around the corner and seems to be causing us issues with network, but only lost power for a few minutes, so far.
Shared road covered in branches , luckily none more than 4-5 feet long and 3-4 inches. Probably more out there. Looks like I need the blower to clear it off, very thoroughly covered with tree bits.

Went into town last night and as soon as we got out of the car the lights went out, came back on a few minutes later though and stayed on for the rest of the time they were their.

We have people coming over tonight and then out to the play house, so having power is nice.

Wife finished the baking last night and the lasagna is resting in the fridge. I have some flank steaks to cook later on the grill.

All the flashlights I use, I run through them on nightly dog walks. The aluminum 18650 ones so far have lasted years of constant use. They just don't last all that long on a battery.

We have an "occupation" tax which is up now to about $200 each for the wife and I. I think the only reason it exists is to fund the tax collectors office.

hmm, wonder why the internet is out.

I have 5 or 6 of these and rotate them out to take out the battery for charging. I use them every day now for about 4 years for dog walks and working outside. Of course if I need to light up the whole place I have an M18 light with enough batteries to last for many days.
I have a little streamlight in the Audi, works great, but gets hot real fast.

Time to go out and do some tree inventory and cleanup, small stuff sure is messy.

Thanks for all the great flashlight tips!

I keep a 3AA Black Diamond headlamp in my chore jacket at all times. One of the things I like about it is that it electronically locks, so I don't accidentally turn it on in my pocket. The handsfree aspect is useful to me while working on repairs, but I switched mainly because of our horses. A headlamp helped me keep light out of their eyes, so nobody reacts, and it was really useful when cleaning hooves or getting horses tacked up for a 5:30am ride start. We had a side business for a while making waterproof trail lights for horses, and yes, it is as niche as it sounds. In a deep forest on an overcast night, I nearly rode into a downed tree blocking the entire road, and starting making them shortly thereafter.

Most of our daily drivers are AAA and AA versions.

I have a couple of the 747 landing light versions around, (great label @riptides!), which I find are great for identifying wildlife nosing around the property, but I find that the ultra bright light settings tend to bleach my retinas, and impair my vision, but I know my eyes are sensitive in that way.

If the tractor still has traction today, I may get to chipping a few things up. Otherwise, I will be working on the electric fencing. A pig bit through a lower braided poly/wire. I'm tempted to replace it with electrified smooth wire.

All the best,

Peter

trick with flashlights is to check them once in a while.
like the one in your car console you haven't used in three years...
I have a list of things I check each time the clocks go forward or back an hour. Most of these things only need to be checked once per year, so I divide them up between spring and fall. Flashlight batteries are on the list:

1. Oil all grandfather and mantle clocks (2x per year)
2. Change batteries in automatic chicken coop door (1x per year)
3. Change batteries in all programmable thermostats (1x per year)
4. Change batteries in water overflow sensor on water softener brine tank (1x per year)
5. Check flashlight batteries in every vehicle and each garage (1x per year)
6. Refresh peanut butter in all mouse traps (fall only)
7. Change batteries in flood sensors behind washing machine, 3rd fl. water heater, basement (spring only)
etc...

69°F and .32 inches of much need rain

Our very light rain made for an inside day, most welcome. Can’t have too many energy conservation days. Whether looks like today may be a continuation.

Tonight is solstice party at friends. A very different crowd than our usual group.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day
