blackberries ripening, marveling that I'm getting some instead of birds and bees
largest variety you can grow, always look ripe when not

Air compressor needs a new air hose. Small leak in it. Cracks right at the hookup. Cheap hose from overseas. Had to use it for the log splitter and ZTR. Both of which just have real s l o w leaks in their tires.
I've spent the whole morning with an air hose in hand, grinding and needle scaling some steel for a trailer project. I've been using the same 1/2" or 5/8" Goodyear oil-resistant rubber air hose for at least 25 years, as it's the only hose that never stiffens at all in the cold. I hate cheap air hose.

But if you just slap a fitting on the end of your hose and use it that way, you're going to be either replacing it or cutting a few feet off every few years, as the last 24" takes all the abuse. I keep a replaceable whip hose on the end of my air hoses, which I just replace as they wear out. A 30" section will usually do it, and they can be had with swivel or fixed fittings, in any material you prefer.

I stopped shopping at Dicks when they removed guns and ammo. Shouldn’t call yourself a sporting goods store without them.
Rural king is a good place for that.

Good worship, wife wasn’t feeling well so stayed home. Grabbed burger on way back for lunch.

Good Evening
Today was a beautiful day, although I didn’t do much to take advantage of it.

Got some peaches from a neighbors farm stand, went out to lunch with a friend to the local grass airport where the airplanes are old, and the pilots are as well. We saw a number APF friends there lots of vintage motorcycles came and went. The food is excellent. There is a limited menu, but really well prepared quality ingredients.

Did a little work around here, got the ERV up into the attic, and some strategizing about how I’m going to install it. I’m pretty sure I’m going to do it as a stand alone system rather than tying it into the existing air handler.
One thing driving that is that we use the radiant floor heat in the winter, so it does not make sense to me to run it for the ventilation. This way it will also have its own control. Not set in stone yet, but I’m leaning that way.

Helped oldest son get the pool covered, grandson supervised.

Last night we went down to their place to enjoy a fire in the fire pit while the kids made S’mores. Neighbors came via golf cart as well.

I understand the sentiment, but did you actually ever buy firearms at Dicks? I've always bought all of my guns from mom-and-pop gun stores, with personnel who actually know their product, can order in exactly what you want, and have the wherewithall to support it when you need mod's or have an issue.

I will admit to buying sporting shells from Cabella's for awhile in the early 2000's, they had the best prices on Remington trap loads. But even there, I eventually switched back to just buying flats from the local family-owned operation, as they were able to come close enough to Cabella pricing that I didn't mind the small premium. This is back when I was blowing thru 4 - 8 boxes of 12 gauge shells every Wednesday night, and occasinally doubling that on a Saturday.

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 15.1C and it's presently 21.9C (that's 74F!), cloudy with a slight breeze. It was gusty night and rain is expected late this evening.

I'll let the fire go out in the woodheater; the first time since mid-June. Yes, I know enough to not put my Winter stuff away just yet as there's always one, or two, more occasions.

The only thing planned for today is a Parish Council meeting this early evening.

That's about it, take care all.

Was 77F and sunny @ 12:30, calling for a high of 82F for the day. Low this morning was 48.0F.

Ten Day now showing 30% to 40% chance of thunderstorms this coming Saturday/Sunday.

Here's hoping ...

Annual rainfall deficit @ CAK now stands @ -5.5" as of the 23:00 local news last night ... 🤬

Verified that the battery in the van isn't an issue, and system is charging.

Symptom is move the key to the "On" position, wait for glow plug light to go out, then turn to "Start" position it gives a single "click" and starter doesn't spin.

However, if you turn the switch on and go directly to the "Start" position - without waiting for the glow plug light to go out - it will sometimes spin the starter and start up.

Fairly sure at this point it is the ignition switch.

After a sunny start yesterday it clouded up to overcast all day which made it pleasant working outside.

Decided it was time to get started on the holes for the fence posts so tightened up/restrung string lines and marked the locations again with making paint.

Then started augering the holes.

That ended up being pretty difficult for most of them as the ground was so dry. Little penetration, like concrete ...

So it was do whatever the PHD would do - which in some cases wasn't much at all - and then give them a good soaking with water from the Buffalo and let that soak in overnight.

IMG_3864 copy.jpg

Did have better luck with the 3 closest to the house - sunk the auger bit pretty much to its full depth ... better than 3':

IMG_3863 copy.jpg

Those will need cleaned out by hand with a manual PHD ... which I picked up from a friend this afternoon.

Woman came out at some point, sent Her back with several yellow squash, a zucchini or two, and a cuke. She made a couple loaves of zucchini bread when She went back in.

Today was a repeat of yesterday, with some further progress made on a number of post holes ... but still a ways to go to get them to depth. Encountering some rocks which require the digging bar which isn't a whole lot of fun.

Woman came out late this afternoon and got all the arbs watered while the sausage dumplings and sauerkraut simmered on the stove.

That was last 2 quarts of 'kraut ... gonna have to make up another batch and get it in the crock to ferment ...

Ran Her down to DG after that, She started on the mashed potatoes once we got back and unloaded and I headed back out for more drilling.

Dumplings and taters turned out perfect ...

Hope everyone had a decent Sunday ... (y)
