89F, sunny, and humid here @ 13:15. Nearby LWS on WU says it's 90F there with a heat index/"feels like" temp of 110F ...
Woke up around 07:30 this morning, was 73F.
Phone hadn't charged so I messed with the charge cord and got it charging and headed out to the couch ... where I promptly fell back asleep until around noon.
Rained a little bit yesterday evening, barely enough to settle the dust.
The big event was sometime early this morning, dimly remember hearing some thunder ... rain gauge shows a little over 0.5" ... with probably more on the way this afternoon if we are lucky.
After neighbor left yesterday I worked on moving one of the trees we took down out of the way. Then cleaned up a lot of the debris on the ground with the Kubota and the grapple in order to drill more planting holes.
Then removed the grapple and stuck the Light Material bucket on and headed up and grabbed a bucket load of screened compost and parked the Kubota back by the first arb planting hole.
Took Cub and dump over to the barn and deployed baited live trap.
Found there were two 2.2 cubic foot bales of peat moss, threw one of those into the dump cart and brought it over and parked the cart by the first planting hole.
Then went and got the Water Buffalo and brought it over, dropped it and hooked the dump cart back up.
My Able Assistant handled pruning any small saplings and roots, since She is closer to the ground than I:
Of course, that wasn't ALL She did ...
Used the extra space in the dump cart mix up the screened compost and peat moss in a 2 to 1 ratio for the planting holes.
Put enough of the mix in the holes where the arbs were setting just above grade and then gave each hole 4 gallons of water.
Removed the arbs from the pots and worked over the roots with the little blue-handled claw to loosen them up.
Then set the arbs in place and filled in around them with more of the soil mix to the top of the root balls.
Then gave them another 4 gallons of water each.
They are going to have to be watered regularly - probably weekly - due to the large trees sucking the water out of the ground.
Used around 1.1 cubic foot of peat moss per plant, about 1/2 bale per arb. We're going to need another 3 bales to finish planting all the arbs ... so will probably pickup another 4 bales.
We ended up getting 3 planted, first one:
Next two:
... that included a break for some light rain, assembling the cold brew coffee/tea maker which came in the mail, dinner, and having to refill the Buffalo ... which was only partially full when we started.
By the time that was done it was starting to get dark so gathered up the stuff that needed to come inside and brought it up to the garage and put it all away and then drove the Cub over and parked it in front of the garden to keep the critters at bay.
Haven't been outside yet today ...but The Woman has and says it's horrid.
That nearby LWS is now reporting that it's 92F there ... with a heat index of 116F ...
Not sure what all it is on the agenda for today ... but it might not be much outside.
Suppose I could get the mowing done down here around the house.
With this morning's rain the ride shouldn't be quite as bumpy.
Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ...
