Be interesting to see if the towns that have banned them will buy them, and if so, would they pay retail?
The mentality would be there to waste taxpayer money doing that, but I doubt it.

105mm would be a lot of rain, guess not all rain amounts require admin approval.

I wish they would do something about the Jake brakes that vibrate my house at night. They are much loader than any leaf blower. So are the fire truck sirens, think they will outlaw those?

actually the way to accomplish low noise is clearly to use cordless electric which isn't likely to be a best
solution for a pro landscaper. But there are some low noise gas models, interesting that they may be discontinued

Top Quiet Leaf Blowers

Here are some top picks for quiet leaf blowers, known for their low decibel ratings and neighbor-friendly operation:

  • Milwaukee M18 Fuel Gen 3 Blower (Model 3017)
    :
This is currently one of the quietest options with a reported ANSI noise rating of just 54 dB (measured from 50 feet away). It offers strong performance while prioritizing quiet operation.
  • RYOBI 40V HP Brushless Whisper Series:This series is consistently recognized as one of the quietest in the industry.
    • The handheld model (e.g., the 730 CFM version) has an ANSI rating of 57 dB.
    • The backpack blower model has a rating of 59 dB.
  • WORX Nitro 40V Quiet-Tech Blower (WG581.1)
    :
This blower operates at just 57 dB, combining powerful performance with a quiet design suitable for noise-sensitive areas.
  • EGO Power+ Backpack Blower (LB7654
    / LB6000 series):
These models are noted for being significantly quieter than gas models, with noise levels around 64 dB. They are often recommended as the quietest backpack options that don't require hearing protection.
  • STIHL Low-Noise Gas Models: While electric is generally quieter, specific Stihl gas models (like the discontinued
    BG 66 L
    and
    BR 500
) were engineered with silencers to produce a deeper, softer tone that is less irritating than typical gas blowers and registers as very quiet from 50 feet.
Yes, but...

As the prior post pointed out, 54dB at 50' is probably more like 100dB at the operator's ear, so even the electrics need good hearing protection for the operator.

Locally, we have a number of jurisdictions with zero leaf blowing (rakes only), and the state has gone to no small ICEs, but the local landscapers seem to be having trouble finding electric leaf blowers with enough power to be effective, and then struggling with recharge times/battery capacities. From the outside, it sure looks like the technology isn't quite there for professionals and those who have large areas to tend to. I certainly haven't found one.

Personally, my little electric Toro is loud enough to need hearing protection, and a mere shadow of the power of Stihl backpack blowers.

We have folks come by weekly to "blow and go" to reduce the accumulation of leaves for fire reasons, and vacuum regularly with high filtration, so we are definitely bought into "cleaner". Although I find it interesting to see the evolution of cleanliness standards over time, both inside and outside seem to have evolved to higher and higher levels. Beating carpets once a year and a bit of Play-dough on the wall paper to reduce the soot levels on the wall was once enough, and lawns a recent addition to those without herds of sheep and shepherds. I'm not advocating for a return to open fires indoors with no chimneys, but suburbia around here certainly gets pretty loud as teams of gardeners come through all week long. Even out here where the lot sizes are large enough to support grazing animals, I can still hear the blow-and-go guys come through every Saturday. (We all use the same team, so it is just one morning a week. We are fortunate.)

@wngsprd sorry to hear about the filter change fiasco, which reminds me, I still need to date my filters.

Have a great one!

All the best,

Peter

38 going to 62, and rain late.

Wag, you are really on top of things to already be mailing Christmas cards and gifts, but bad you are forced to do so by slow mail.

BEF, hope your shoulder is better. I'm having to get in my recliner from bed because of mine sometimes, too.

Today makes 47 wonderful years married to Myla. Where does the time go?

Did some winter prep chores yesterday. Then sanded and repainted our cornhole boards. I originally used HDX spray paint to save a buck, and it was more like spraying chalk powder. This time I went with Rust-Oleum 2X and it was more than 2X better, probably like 2,000X.
Happy Anniversary Billy and Myla!!!
Good paint is better.
Happy anniversary wngsprd.
Ice helped the shoulder enough last night, that I finally went to bed. I could sleep on my left side, shoulder down, but it hurt to sleep on right side.

Will ice it more today.
Hope shoulder gets better. No sleep sux.

Towns down here have signs entering the towns NO JAKE Brakes. But many of the lower class drivers have loud exhausts.

errands run, home in time to make a quick last pass with mower and leaf vac.

good thing there aren't problems with car engine sizes. 413, 265...
gosh what about those Buick Wildcat engines. Weren't there pictures of Indians, or was that Pontiac?
I'm sorry sir, you will need to pry that historic oem sticker off your engine.
It is not longer acceptable.

Over my dead oem collector body
50's had some wild hood ornaments

Went to town on errands with the wife. Pharmacy pickup, lunch at mission BBQ. Wife wanted salad for lunch, ordered brisket and their Carmel apple desert. I couldn’t eat all my pulled pork, took some to go. Quick stop at Sam’s club for few things. Gas pumps open again already, after adding 2 more pumps and extending the canopy. Waiting for her appointment, then need make UPS return.
Arm still hurting.
Light rain started

some towns dont let the trains blow their horns. all tracks have gate crossings.

Congrats on the smooth test Popgadget. Thank you for posting aerial photos. I really enjoy them.

I'm feeling a bit small today. Crud, sore throat. throat lymph node glands doing their thing. No fever yet, my wifey says she sees 1 red dot on the back of my throat. Would prefer not to take antibiotics. Kept hacking late last night and got up around midnite to take some equate brand elixir. It worked. I wonder if fireball works?

Steiner Beast: I fired it up last night, and it needed some air in a rear tire. Good thing, I get down there and putting in the air, I noticed the fuel line leaking.dripdripdrip. Parked it in a place I can work on it that I don't mind if it kills the grass. May have to jack up the side with the tank to get better access. Fishing the new line thru will be the toughest part of the job.

I'm off for vacation. I just am low energy.

Be careful, if it is strep it won't just go away too easy.
