Thanks Scott and others. Will have to have a center for the pilot bit. Maybe wedge a piece of wood into the irregular shaped hole and hole saw it big enough to cover the hole and then use a 1/8 inch over to make the plug
Good suggestion
If you drill the desired hole into a 6x6 [or close] piece of 5/8 plywood you can attach that to the spot needing the plug and center it where desired. You can also take that board and clamp it to the donor board and drill straight thru without the centering bit. I did this to my house when I moved the outside faucet. Hope I explained it correctly!

Great idea, follow you on how to do it. I have a few other places where plugs are needed and will use it there as well. A 200 year old house always has some challenges and finding workers that can help is like impossible

I am off at 9am first to visit the Indian Museum in Santa Fe and then continuing North into Colorado to Alamosa. I see it was 37 last night there, brrr.
