Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #196,361
Good (Tuesday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.7C and it's presently 16.6C, partly cloudy with a breeze.

Well the Rectory tree clean-up is done'n'dusted. On my last trip to the tip I 'ran into' an old Mate who I hadn't seen in ages. He was dumping half of a lemon tree that got damaged. Anyway, he said that he'll be over this arvo for a beer or two and a good catch-up.

Which gives me a good excuse to do a wee bit of Spring Cleaning around here.

That's about it, take care all.

I got this off google:
Natural pest control: Cellar spiders are harmless to humans, but they're not harmless to other pests in your house. Cellar spiders eat gnats, flies, moths, even mosquitoes and other spiders. They can play a major role in keeping pest populations in line.Sep 15, 2021
But my barn is looking like Herman Munster's house...ready for Halloween...

44°F and clear skies this morning, and only got up to 75° here today. 80s all week until Friday, then back into the 70s for a couple of days. Fall is definitely trying to creep in around here, too. I even wore sweat pants this morning.

We had a large area of rip rap wash out of the swale from the front of the pond during our last big storm. The rushing water cleared an area about 10 feet long, and restacked the rocks a little further down. Today seemed like a good day to fix that. I got about halfway done when an overly aggressive wasp decided to start harassing me. I backed off about 15 yards before he stopped, and I watched him fly back into a hole between some rocks on the north side, just a few feet from where I was working. So, I sauntered back to the house and grabbed a can of wasp and hornet spray from the garage. The Spectracide can said it kills on contact ... I can tell you it does not. What it actually does is make the whole nest really angry and inspires them to swarm the entire area, which I felt obliged to vacate with haste.

Tried to take a short nap after that, but The Wife wanted some stuff that required me to make the trek to the Fairview Heights Home Depot. After returning, I looked briefly for where I laid down my ambition, but did not find it.

May have to take a trip out there after dark and give that hole a puff of diatomaceous earth.

Nice pictures, everyone.

Good evening, gents.
Yep, throw that in the trash and get the black can Raid. Never look back.
Or you can give that Spectracide to whomever has been flirting with your wifey a bit too much... ;)

47 going to 79. I could take a few months of this.

Kyle, I bet your son learned more in defeat than he would in victory...playing so hard and against the odds and not giving up.

RS, real nice engine. I like watching/listening to them at old tractor shows.

Plowhog, hope the fire is getting under control. Sounds bad.

Buppies, neat that you were able to watch Johnny Unitas.

BEF, don't forget to save that blue HF magnetic flashlight when to take out the old unit. 😁

Don, hope you get the green light to drive, but I also hope you can wait longer before you have to.

PJ, glad you got some quality time with your stepson. Prayers for his recovery.

Ken, and Popg, happy birthday to your sons!

Got back from eastern North Carolina yesterday afternoon...mother-in-law's funeral...good to see many family and friends. Nice weather, but originally thought we'd be outside in storms. I rented an older restored farmhouse on a 200 acre soybean farm outside Greenville for my family to stay...lots of room for walks with the dogs, and Della got to visit with horses for the first time. She was amazed. Our 11 month old granddaughter was crawling around like crazy. Peaceful, but good to be home, and this morning's home roasted pour over coffee is a nice change from the pod coffee there.

Youngest son is still here, so will take him on a hike today before he returns to Long Island.
Son did learn a lot. I should've coached up his team mates when a bunch of them were at Whataburger. I will next time.
Condolences again. Glad you got to see family, sorry under these circumstances. Glad you are hiking with Son.
Home Sweet Best Coffee in the state. :)

$10.95 breakfast this morning at the local restaurant. Nice way to start the day and week.

Don't know about you, but that plate looks like it should cost about $4.99 Inflation! :(

Nice, glad the job went well.
Yes BEF, keep up the cold work!
Ken, yes happy belated to your son. He ready for college???

Changed oil in daughter's car. It has an oil leak. probably rear main seal, maybe front seal too arrghhh. 2010 model with only 90000 miles. Also needs new passenger side motor mount. $32 Amazon. She had to stay outside and talk with me as a pennance. Wifey stayed out and yakked too. Talked about Revelations.
Since she's moved out, she's finding out paychecks don't stretch as far as they used to...we warned her we couldn't "bail" her out of financial woes. She paid off her credit card, and put a bit in her savings. I charged her $35. for the oil and filter (about what it cost me). She got a free home made chili with fritos and cheese supper.

Popgadget, why is the belt off the genny in the little plane in the photo? Glad you got her together.

Plowhog, we had a plastic small file cabinet, in which we had our important photos, computer backups, papers etc, loaded in the truck ready to GO! when the fire was near us hear. Prayers they get it contained. No wonder insurance wants out of CA. I'd have a full large swimming pool, with a huge sprinkler system and watering system powered by a honda water pump. Keep it full of 100LL AvGas and when you leave, start it. Oh and a metal or clay roof.

Nice puppy Scotty's son.

Drew, keep on trucking!

Need to go see dermatologist. It's my turn after being in the sun all these years.... Soonest appt is Nov4th or 6th... I wanted a male doctor. He retired, I got a very beautiful young lady according to her photo...

Time for bed.

Prayers for our team.

having an interesting evening
a/c would not stay on, have to cycle through heat and then a/c to get a/c to come on, then once it hits temp, turns off and won't come back on.
Thankfully it has cooled off for the night.
so....ordered a replacement Dometic thermostat, will show up at my sister's home this week. One more thing to fix.

and yes, I have a traveling companion
There is a mouse in the house....
came into living room and small mouse shot across floor.
geez, ok out went the mouse trap and hope that will resolve itself later with a loud snap. I knew I had a little friend when I found some chewed up paper in the passenger seat footwell. But I had hoped he had left last stop. Nope. I wonder if he built a nest under that seat? I"ll have to look tomorrow.

Popgadget, why is the belt off the genny in the little plane in the photo? Glad you got her together.

The drive pulley is mounted behind the prop along with the ring gear for the starter. It has to come off along with the propeller to get the nose bowl off.

   / Good morning!!!! #196,373
today I'm afraid will be four hours of very boring driving, down and across Wyoming and there just isn't much here, to the point where I'm stopping at a fancy truck stop this afternoon.
did you know Wyoming only has 561,000 people in the entire state?
the least number of any state in US.

tomorrow I head for Heber City, outside of Salt Lake City, to stay for 2 days. Then the final push into CA and arrive at Marin Co on Monday.
Gosh there is some cold weather before then. Night temps for next several nights are in the 30's.

pretty sure my a/c thermostat is unhappy, constantly fight with it, ordered a replacement to arrive at sisters. Should be an easy three wire hookup. Only way a/c wants to come on is if I turn on heat first. ??
some logic circuit is off. And then when it reaches goal temp, and turns off, won't turn back on while on auto. For 35 bucks, worth trying to change out thermostat. It's a dometic a/c, considered top quality, but then I see Amazon sold over 500 replacement dometic thermostats last month. Really?...

Good Morning
56° with a high of 77 under clear skies, another dry day.

Yesterday was a busy one, I’ve been starting every day with rotating the mantle and checking its weight. I use the chain hoist to rotate it, so it’s easy to get the weight off the hoist scale. So far it’s lost 40lbs, and moisture % has gone from middle 20’s down to low teens. Checking has been minimal, but enough to add character. It is staying straight and not twisting. I’m impressed with how well having the floor dryer fan on it is drying it up.

I cut up a batch of sandblast mask for the Rockman while the grass dried off, then hooked up the progressive mower and mowed all the open areas. After that was done, swapped the Progressive for the 90” Landpride and mowed inside the pastures. Dropped the Landpride, and hopped on the Lazer to mow the inside of the fence lines. That pretty much killed the day, didn’t get to the hanger.

While I was busy, there was lots happening on and in the old folks home.

Stone is almost completely in place and ready for pointing.

IMG_5230.jpg

The doors and windows in the Great Room are trimmed

IMG_5227.jpg

The shower is all grouted

IMG_5223.jpg

Everyone will be back today, it’s great to see progress that doesn’t involve me. It’s a novelty, but I have to say that I can get used to it.

My day is going to start with rotating the mantle, then breakfast with the professor. Then hopefully on to the little plane if the old folks home or string trimmer doesn’t suck me in.

Popgadget's mantle is going to be a work of art when it's done.
The whole house looks nice, stone is very much a local thing.
Plus he gets to keep his shop just the way it is, no having to move
his "stuff" which you usually do for a new home.

Good Morning,
Ct, 55 to start going to 75 ! Another beautiful sunny day on tap for today ! Tomorrow we are heading north for a few days , I’m sure the yard needs mowing but probably won’t mow the fields until later in September or early October !

Paul , old folks home looks beautiful, that shower is super ! Stone work came out terrific!

Plans for today is do some trimming work and then some garage cleanup, of course I always say that and never do it !

Also need to prepare the financial report for the FD concerts 2024 ! Disappointing season with two rain outs and the last concert could have been a real money maker if we had good weather!

Hope all have a good Tuesday! 🙏

Good morning, the low is 38 and going to a high of 72°F. Wind N 2 mph. Sunny!
I am afraid this may be summers' last hurrah. We may be in for an early winter. Hope not, I am far from ready.

A 475 C 15 Cat engine with straight pipes and a Jake brake sounds like a machine gun when you drop a full gear to slow down. The bigger diameter of the pipes and deeper the sound (within reason).
8" pipes sound great, but I prefer 6" myself.

Drew, I am glad you got rid of your destructive hitch hiker. Some felines will ride comfortably in a vehicle and will also come when they are called. I had one, but unfortunately he never learned how to look both ways when crossing the street.

Today is gonna be grass cutting day and MAYBE set up the area for the BH platform. I have another little job that I have been putting off for thirty years that I should do as well with some of the scrap from the platform.

Time to check the bank account and see what bills I need to pay. I think there is only one needing payment, the phone bill. They arbitrarily dictated that they were going paperless except for those of us over 65 EXCEPT for me, (78 this month). I keep telling them that I WANT a paper bill and they send me email reminders that they haven't got their money. Then I pay them. I don't like doing business that way and I will NOT EVER give them access to my bank account.
I am expecting a check from American Express. It seems that I over paid them when I closed off the account. They sent me a statement last week. They owe me a whole $0.09, I told them that I wrote it off and they should do the same. It cost them 10 times that to mail me the letter not including the paper, they absolutely gotta keep their accounts straight so they will be sending me a check. lol

Time to get on with my day.

Have a safe day all

Wow there is so much going on here, and so fun to read!

Great pix Drew, keep them coming! Scott congrats on new pup! They are so fun and so much work!

Kyle, lots fires in CA but this one is near our residence in NV. Can't imagine losing our home we built only 4-5 years ago. Yesterday morning was much calmer, this morning I can see flames on the (distant) ridgeline. I could see an orange glow a few nights ago, but this is the first time I've seen it in the morning. I guess there is no such thing as "distant" if you can see flames.

Today is a "red flag warning." Last time that happened the fire really blew up. Tomorrow's forecast is for even stronger winds. We are packed and ready to go and I hope that doesn't happen. Not much I can do but wait.
