Oh can I get 3 hours of dryness? Not promising for today. Forecast is passing showers until 1700.

Sophie’s lasagna was terrific. So was company.

Got to do a bit of research after company left and soaker hose system appears most appropriate for my use. Looking forward to input from the GM experts.

Closest LWS reports total precip in the past 24 hours was 2.54" so far. Things should be well-watered ...

Went out in the cool last evening after dinner and got 6 bags of mulch placed around the edge of the northwest planting bed.

Then watched the latter half of the Guardians/Brewers game.

Think Woman is currently working in the kitchen on prepping tomatoes.

My assistance may be required on the first run of the new vacuum sealer ...

Have a couple of bills to schedule for payment.

May finish up Menards order and get that placed and then run up and get it later if they have it ready.

Other that just see what else comes up.

Isn't there a simple test kit you can find at the FLAPS to test for antifreeze in the engine oil, Ted?

I'm up north now, Drew, but don't see any big fires near Santa Maria on Watch Duty. No complaints about smoke down there from friends, either.

I've been shopping for a new sprinkler controller for the yard down south, something that can be managed from an app or website. Rachio has bee around a while, but doesn't get very good reviews. Yardian is newer, but I don't think it integrates with HomeKit. Not sure if compatibility is important to you, David, but getting a better interface on the timer would ease updating the sprinkler times as the seasons change.

Got all the dry rotted wood replaced up at the gate yesterday. Some of it just fell away from the lag bolts holding it in place. And there were spots with fungus growing out of the wood. Today I'll get the posts cut level and string steel pipes on for rails. Then I'll be ready to start painting tomorrow morning. I'm hoping one coat'll do it, but it'll probably take two.

RNG, if you were to cut the posts at an angle then paint the ends they would shed water better. I am assuming you are going with wooden posts again.

RNG, controller - something else to learn about. While I sense a simple need, I have a clue on determining what is proper moisture nor how to control. I suppose with the soaker type some sort of periodic flow. I don’t think I’d see much seasonal change but suspect different plants may have different uptake. I think I can somewhat control each row with a single timer/controller. Don’t initially see advantage to wifi in my case as I’m guessing finger in the ground will be my primary test. Looking forward to your choice.

I have some stuff in Homekit, mostly Voco outlets to control pool pump, robot cleaner, salt generator, my cordless tool chargers. My green house connects will be via Voco for the hydro pump, grow lights, fan.

Eufy HB3 isn’t Homekit compatible, but I manage that directly from the Eufy app.

I'm leaning towards a plugged rad. 240 K miles, it could probably use a new rad.

My '01 Wrangler had the same engine and it got the rad replaced in 2013. My mechanic said that you can only expect a Jeep rad to last about 10 years. The fact that I got 12 out of mine was because it didn't go too far in summer. (Parked from May to October)

Compression test should tell you if the head is cracked, if you do the test with it warmed up.

Yeah, it could be.... the heater core definitely is plugged. I tried flushing the system last summer, don't see too much corrosion in the radiator. But, that doesn't mean it's not clogged....

Just going to check one thing at a time, as no rush.

Makes sense with the radiator.... at idle, might not have enough flow. Just strange that it overheats AFTER it gets shut down.

The GS's truck didn't fare out any better..... after the daughter left last evening, she got almost 3/4 the way home...... she called and said there was a big "bang" and the truck started slowing down. Engine fine.... rpms will raise, just won't go.....
Either the clutch disintegrated, or something in the trans. The transfer case seems ok.

She was out in the middle of nowhere -- an area we nicknamed "the great dead" because there is literally nothing out there except dirt....
I called and requested a LEO to stand by with her.

Took the idiot boyfriend over 2 hours to get to her. Truck left behind. She didn't get home until 01:30 (she left at 17:30, only 4 hour drive). They are supposed to go retrieve it today. She called multiple towing companies.....
The cheapest was $814, most expensive $945. Ridiculous prices! highway robbery !

I told her she needs to unload all 3 of those vehicles!

Did a couple odds and ends already when the temps were cooler. Started the drip irrigation sequence. Already 89° at noon, so now became an inside day.

I need to vegitate anyway.....

Daughter just called.... they were back at the truck. She had to FaceTime me to see where to hook the tow strap..... the idiot with her didn't have a clue!

Now I understand why years ago, families would make "arranged marriages"..... to specifically avoid these types of issues.....

You may want to check the cap on the radiator. If spring is weak it will not allow pressure build up and boiling will happen at a lower temperature. When driving it cools enough to prevent boiling but shut down it will boil over

The heater core is on the list to do, not too expensive, just have to disassemble the entire dash (about 8 hours). Also have to disconnect the a/c system, then recharge. A real PIA job.

That's why it has been procrastinated for months and months......

I will probably just do the radiator and still procrastinate on doing the heater core.

Ahhh, another good point! I was able to listen for that "odd hiss" in person when it got here. It was not from the back of the engine... sound was being deflected... it was coming from the radiator cap.

Maybe the culprit? A cheap possible fix!

I've seen bad radiators not show till shutting down the higher rpm was pushing enough water around that it didn't show an overheat but when shut down and no circulation the hot pockets in the engine would boil the coolant that was now sitting still.
