67 going to 92. Happy Flag Day!

I feel for you. Try and stay positive through the ordeal.

Crazy times. Wife and I agreed we are not doing "this" to our kids.
I feel for both of you. We had this same scenario about 5 years ago. We have also agreed not to do this to our kids...but we're making only slow progress. Don is the master.

Don, congrats on moving in!

Can't wait to see your pup pix, Plow. Awesome dam.

Took a good hike yesterday, realized I need to get back to the mountains soon. Did a few small chores. Watched the Great Crested Flycatchers fledge from their nest in the cavity in our paulownia tree next to the porch...one landed on the shepherd's hook where a hummingbird feeder hangs, so got to check it out with binoculars for a while.

Good Morning!!!! 65F @ 4:15AM here in Yankee Hill. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 92F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
We have a Fire Weather Watch starting here tomorrow afternoon, the usual circumstance of high temperatures, low humidity, and strong north wind.

I briefly considered a Sprinter when I was shopping last year, Drew, but the new engine design for '23 put me off, as well as the high price, small dealer network, and narrower body.

If you end up needing an oil change and you're near Orcutt, CA, Drew, I think we can handle that, too. Not at all sure about a restaurant, though, as I don't eat out much.

That's pretty neat you got a tour of Shasta Dam, PH. Didn't they close down tours during Covid?

Pretty smooth trip north yesterday. All except one idiot in Sacramento that insisted on slowing down as he tried to merge onto the freeway. I'd backed off the throttle to make room for him if he'd accelerated normally, than I braked even more when he didn't speed up. I think he came pretty close to stopping on the on ramp, but I didn't slow down enough to be sure. Some people really shouldn't have driver's licenses, but how do you weed them out before they kill somebody?

Ran errands in town yesterday on the way home and stopped by a tool rental outfit to check on a kneeling utility trailer. They didn't have one on the lot, but didn't want to rent one for use outside the county anyway. U-Haul was just up the street, and the 12' drop gate trailer they had looked like it will do the job. I'll pick it up late in the day today, hopefully get it loaded, and be on my way south again early tomorrow morning. Then recover for a day down south, and back up here on Monday to return the trailer and start clean up projects here.

TGIF gang!

Good morning.Warming up in S CA. Friend just got back from NV where it was 115º, Yikes!
We spent last weekend sorting 25 yrs of collecting personal stuff in prep for paint and flooring. I tiled the main house yrs ago. We are putting laminate wood type floor over concrete in the 4 bedrooms. 2 down 2 to go. I'm wore out...need a week off.
The 2 new feral barn cats are ready to be released. They have been living in a cage for 8 weeks where I feed and water them. So they get used to me and learn where the steady food supply and water is. Typically 50% of them stay around permanently.
We have 2 of the original 4 but one had been in the neighbors barn more than mine the last year or more so we requested more. Every ranch should have a few cats to keep the rats and rabbits away. The dry cat food costs less than the irritation of repairs. Rabbits take big bites from extension cords and wires in the vehicles.
Put a ball hitch on the forklift and moved the seldom used trailers for weed abatement needed. So cheap and easy! And controllable compared to hitching up the truck.
Been a bad year for weeds with all the rain and fire season is off to a roaring start. My Fire app is sending daily notices of 2-3 fires locally. The brush is drying out.

Good Morning,
Vt, 60 to start going to 77 ! Cloudy with light rain on and off. High humidity, so happy I mowed the lawn yesterday and I go up and down the long DW with the tractor and bush hog.

BEF, in Ontario it is illegal to back onto a thoroughfare
Bill, I’m always amazed at the UPS trucks and the Prime delivery vans that pull into the DW nose first and then have to back out into traffic ! When I’m out delivering I always back in ! If you can’t use your mirrors properly it’s going to be a long day ! And it’s going to be an even longer day if your driving a Mack cab over with geared transmission and you can’t get it into the next gear ! 😉

Plowhog , congrats on the new pup ! Looking forward to some pics !

Drew, I would be curious where your planning on changing your oil and then there is the disposal issue !

Heading out of Vt this morning, sounds like some bad weather coming through later today and don’t want to get caught in it !

Hope all have a Good Friday! 🙏

Good morning, the low is 54 and going to a high of 66°F. Wind NNW 9 mph. 30% chance of showers.

Although it did rain in the wee hours today, we dodged the nasty weather.

Temperature slowly ramping up, 70s tomorrow and by next Thursday we should be in the 90s. :(

The countdown is on! 4 days until I can take this heart monitor off and get rid of it.

Physio lady came and went. She is happy with the progress I have made since the stroke and the accelerated rate I used in hospital. My objective was to get out of there as soon as possible. 12 days I was in there. Weighed 250# when I went in and yesterday I weighed myself at 240. Only 40# to go to get to my target weight of 200#.

I think this afternoon I will cut the grass and take the mower to get the mail. We get the mail from a 'group box' at the end of the road. I will take a picture of them and post when I go.

It is interesting the different English wording through the English speaking world. Down under in Tassie Wagtail says 'arvo' for afternoon and up here in the north some of us say 'this aft' for this afternoon. We got a lot of that in public school, "Where's your homework? I forgot it, I'll bring it this aft."

That dam is impressive.

I already told junior that when I croak he can get rid of everything I have accumulated over the years IF he doesn't want it. I wont have a problem with it. Of course not I will be dead. ;)

Almost time for sugar checking and breakfast.

Have a safe day all

Good Morning
73° on its way to 85 with a chance of thunderstorms late in the day.
Yesterday went by at a leisurely pace. I looked at a restaurant that a friend was opening to see about wiring some soft serve ice cream machines. The bad news was that the panel was full, and already loaded with twin breakers. The worse news was that the machines were 3 phase and the building was not.
Next up was to come up with a way to secure all the radiant PEX loops where they exit the slab. The old folks home is an addition on the back of the attached garage, I’m actually putting a utility room in the garage for the boiler and plumbing, so the loops actually leave the slab and go into the adjacent wall.

I ended up using a piece of scrap plywood and drilling holes in it for tywraps, and securing the sweeps with the tywraps. I screwed the plywood to 1x2 legs to hold it at the correct height.
Concrete is now scheduled for Tuesday morning, so this rig won’t have to hold up for long.

Wife and I went out to lunch, I did some more odds and ends type chores, rounded up a lot of trash and recycling, cut up a boat load of cardboard to fit it into the overflowing tote, and got them to the street along with a couple of contractor sized trash bags.

Got a call to sub with a band that played a lot of Grateful Dead songs as well as other classic rock, that was a fun time.

When I came home, I noticed one of the trash bags was missing. I actually got out of the car and looked around with a flashlight to see what happened to it. All I can say is that it’s gone. Go figure.

scott, I maintain that if you shave, then you know how to use your mirror. I don't really blame guys on motorcycles that after they get cut off they will come alongside you and smack/bust your mirror. If you don't use it, then you don't need it.
Back when I hauled garbage to Detroit (South Schaeffer), coming back one day in a snow storm I had a guy in a big fancy Pete hogging both the center and passing lane on the main drag through Windsor. (Three lanes wide) When we got to the split for Hwy 3 and the ramp that goes to the 401, he made the fatal mistake of giving me an extra 6". I got my cabover even with the nose of his Pete and he realized that I was beside him and tried to crowd me over off the pavement to the left. I grabbed the mike and told him that if he kept coming I would take his mirror off with the trailer and certainly would NOT stop. He moved back into his lane. Told him that if he was that scared of the snow that maybe he should have stayed in Florida.

That's what I'm telling my offspring.
However I'm seeing my wife, BIL, his wife and children etc. using it as a grieving process.

.....

Boxes boxes boxes to unpack....
LOL. I have two boxes from an original move from our first house still containing contents from over 35 years ago. My original race car set and a serious (back then) stash of Alpine radios.

A smart person would sell the race car set and rewire the Alpines to use in an outbuilding. Like I said, a smart person would.

.....
Bill, I’m always amazed at the UPS trucks and the Prime delivery vans that pull into the DW nose first and then have to back out into traffic ! ...

Wife and I passed a delivery truck nose down, butt up in a driveway culvert yesterday. He obviously missed the driveway, trying to get back on the street. He took the time to turn around by the persons house, but missed badly trying to drive out on the road. Not even close....

Morning all, 74 to 89 and sunny, thunderstorms later.
Got some prep work for serving table done. Bridges for end alignment, cutting 2 x 4 to size etc.
Today some more of that.

Son's friends stayed over last night, pool was occupied until I sent them to apt at 10pm.

BEF - pebbles needs a hockey stick, pen is too small

Plow, wngsprd - need puppy pictures!

Unknown what will get done today before the rain.
Son said he and friends are going to Asbury park

Be well,

good morning, 73 already going to 86. Not sure if the rain will come in later tonight

Wife had her infusion yesterday. Swelling is already starting to go down

Continued to work on the tree planting and cleaned up shelters and set 30 new stakes for downed shelters. I think some of them are pushed over by bears and deers. Bears looks for bee nests and honey and destroy them. The Paw Paw trees are starting to come in and this picture is what is look like today after starting life as a small seedling.

The farm diesel tank was filled up this morning. Should be good for the rest of the year.

Had coffee on the balcony early this morning looking over the South Mountain and our forrest areas. The sun changing the look from shades to bright lights always fascinating. The bird life is all over with chipping and flying. Swallows have returned and doing the job on insects.
Looking up the trees closely discovers so many birds. Rabits are all over this year.

One on the neighbors has been doing dirt work for weeks now with equipment taking out soft dirt, putting in driveways and bring in fill, apparently to build up a pad for some kind of building.

Good morning! 73˚F heading to the 90s, partly cloudy, SE wind.

Boxes boxes boxes to unpack, lawns to mow and need to meet the electrician at the new house. Full day.
In my house, where things first got placed became its place. If I move things, I get the “that’s not where it belongs”. 😂

Concrete is now scheduled for Tuesday morning, so this rig won’t have to hold up for long.
I had a piece of PVC sticking out of the forms for the footers they poured for the porch cover posts. The PVC was supposed to protect a water line from the concrete. The contractor told me to wrap the PVC with 1/4" foam to protect it from the concrete. Belt & suspenders?

good visit with cardiologist office, other than slightly higher BP, was cleared of
all major heart issues. But they are putting me on a new pill.
She also wrote me a scrip for Wegovy, something I sure need but doubt insurance will pay for it.

Bill, you and I are 40 pounds over. I really, really want to take 20 of that off. Hope you have good luck.

now to push the mower and sweat

read an interesting article on impossibly expensive cities, from a housing standpoint.
California led the list for the US, interesting that Australia was noted:

Australia is the only other country besides the US to dominate the “impossibly unaffordable” list,
led by Sydney and the southern cities of Melbourne in Victoria and Adelaide in South Australia.

even more interesting was the most affordable list for the US, and I think most affordable has a connection
to desirability and maybe urban blight
St Louis
Rochester
Pittsburgh

As of November 2022; The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Toronto costs $2,502each month, while a two-bedroom is $3,353 per month.

All the grass is cut for another 2 weeks. The wind was up a little so I figured now was a good time as most of the bugs cannot fly in windy conditions. I never broke a sweat, temperature was 63°F. It felt warmer in the sun. By next Thursday they are talking 84, down from the 90 they were talking about this morning.

Scott, I was tooling along doing the limit in a construction zone with my right front tire sidewall rubbing against the bottom of a New Jersey barrier and a guy with a fancy truck with those $600.oo mirrors went blasting past me and clipped my drivers' side mirror. After the zone I reached out and pulled my cheapo mirror back in line so I could see behind and he was on the shoulder of the highway (401) whinging that I broke his mirror. I told him that he broke his mirror on my truck and there was zero damage to my truck. "Have a nice day". I could've called the cops, but why get him in any more trouble than he was already in.
I'm doing the limit in a construction zone and you blow by me and screw up busting your mirror on my truck and expect me to pay for it, you are on drugs!
