Good morning all.
75 degrees already, headed to upper 90's. Ssssssssssss.
headed out to pick okra before sun gets hot. And I'm sure there will be more tomatoes, almost have to pick twice a day.
Heritage tomatoes ripen quickly, go bad quickly, very clear what all the GMO work does, makes for more durable, lasting tomatoes.
But they sure don't taste like Black Krim or Dark Galaxy or Berkely Tie Die. Insides are dark reddish purple with green streaks, huge amount of flavor.
Don, what are you growing in Texas?
I did plant one row of Parks Whopper tomatoes, nice consistent tomatoes, nothing whopper about them so far...pretty small. But they will sit on my counter
for two days longer than the others. All carefully bred in I'm sure.
This coming week will be low traffic locally, already the traffic is in half since school stopped.
the rocket's red glare, bombs bursting in air
Yup, Fourth of July
In an attempt to take Baltimore, the British attacked Fort McHenry, which protected the harbor. Bombs were soon bursting in air, rockets were glaring,
It was always fun taking my boats up the Patapsco River and looking at Fort McHenry from the water. Always hoped they would shoot off a cannon, and certainly
not with me in their sights. Not quite like looking at the Statue of Liberty from the water.
Now that choked me up a little, thinking of my grandfather in 1901 looking up at the same statue.
It had only been up 14 years by then, wonder if it was all green or still had some copper tones.
Sit below that lady in a boat and look up and you just know that is one of the wonders of this world.
The wonder of Hope.
