GD played in a HS play yesterday together with her friend. Her friend killed herself yesterday after the performance,
She is devastated
She was very popular
Howard county school system is pretty good so there should be counseling available
She is with some of her class mates supporting each other and with us and kids providing support
Sad. Prayers for all. 🙏🏻

48F and sunny @ 14:00, heading up to around 50F for the day's high.

Ran over to HD first thing yesterday to pick up supply line kit for the new dishwasher. They had a good deal on it, included the right-angle fitting that was needed at the dishwasher plus an 8' braided stainless steel supply line for the same price as the shorter one.

That should allow relocation of the dishwasher to a different area (maybe the island ?) if we opt to do that later.

After that we headed down to Menards Massillon to pick up a plug-in power cord for the dishwasher, a can of electrical contact cleaner (to finish the rebuild of the Hamilton Beach blender ... ), a couple of 4" electrical boxes and faceplates, and a 10-pak of receptacles.

Also grabbed a rigid and flexible scraper blade set (Menards house brand) for the oscillating multi-tool. It's a little funky since it uses an adapter to fit the Dremel. Probably would have been happier with the Dremel brand but it was only $5.99 compared to around $20 for the Dremel blades so I'll live with it.

Woman accompanied me to check out a KitchenAid refrigerator/freezer they have on clearance at a deep discount (42% off) It was supposedly "on display" ... but it was the same deal as the dishwasher up at the Cuyahoga Falls location: not actually on display, still in (unopened) factory packaging, and stored in the back, up on the mezzanine. Also qualifies for $100 rebate from the power company.

They supposedly have 1 of these at each of the three local Menards.

The manual for our current Amana is dated 1988 ... so probably around 35 years old ... can't really complain about the amount of usage we have gotten out of it.

Looking at the yellow tag and running the numbers in the calculator on Energy Star's website, it looks like the new one might use as little as 1/4 of the power that the current one is using. If so it sheds some light on why our power usage is what it currently is. Would probably make sense to go ahead and replace the current unit.

I would assume that these will stay on clearance until they are gone since they are the previous model. But the longer we wait the greater the chance someone will snap them up.

Stopped at Swenson's for burgers, onion rings, and a couple of shakes on the way back. Stayed there and ate in the car while it was hot. Very tasty.

After we got back I started working on removing the old vinyl flooring where the dishwasher goes. Got most of that scraped off with the Dremel and then sanded it some. Still have a little more work to do on it before I lay down the Wonder Board to bring the floor up to the level of the finished laminate floor.

Last thing I did was go down and bring up the scrap piece of Wonder Board. Need to get that cut to size today.

Also on agenda:

Move tub support from old washer and backing plate for softener up to the shop so I can work on them.

Move old dishwasher out of kitchen and get it loaded into the van.

Maybe get the old range loaded into the van as well in preparation for a trip to the metal recycling center.

Woman has the steaks out of the freezer thawing for grilling later today.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

It seems they (as usual) forget that most of their users have "older" hardware, and the update was not backwards compatible. Sigh...

well how long have you had that AT gstrom?
let's see
pc

at
? 396 something?
pentium
I9?
have you checked your threads gstrom. If they get tangled, your machine slows down. one of our IT guys will be right
out to fix you up. you don't want a knot in your threads for sure

successful afternoon, but only due to brilliance of my crew.
frame of greenhouse was surprisingly heavy duty and easy to go
together. The rest was awful, was built wrong, Ken fixed it but there was no way
this was "easy assembly". Has lots of places there are gaps. I'm going to get some white gaffers tape
tomorrow and get it sealed up. Also using landscape staples to hold down the bottom.
tomorrow I get eye bolts from hardware store and attach the whole thing with the wires they provided.

remember the deer whistles they sold, those ugly JC Whitney things you stuck up front?
interesting idea, don't think they worked at low speeds at all.
The deer whistles, which by the way work for moose as well are only effective at speeds OVER 35 mph. (Straight pipes and jake brakes work better) I have 2 of the whistles on the big truck AND two on the Dodge. Big truck is a 2018 International with the Cummins X15, so no straight pipes. :(

Prepping for a massive rain storm... brought some firewood in. Stacked more in the barn.
Ordered full set of filters for the 773 Bobcat. Needs service before spring. Need to give some love to that V2203-E Kubota 4 banger. It's a workhorse. Will piddle around and much of nothing today (y)

Frits, sorry for your family's traumatic loss. So sad when a youth takes their life. Shocking really to us older folks who know how small the problems of their youth will seem to them when they too get old.
Life is a test of our will. Sometimes it is a pass or fail.
May she rest in peace... and be forever young.

Scootr, batten down the hatches
my sister in Muir Beach sent me a video of the surf and I captured this pic
pretty wild
I hear ya. I had 2 big trees severely trimmed next to the house last week. Glad I got er done... expecting 60-70 mph winds with driving rain. Looks like those winds are already wiping up the surf. All the good stuff is in the barn. We are supposed to get it tonight. Sunny reasonably warm and some moderate wind now.
Muir Beach looks beautiful.
Sister has a place in Sea Ranch a little north of SF.

Tyler, TX.
I'll be coming into Texas from NM and Amarillo, coming down past Dallas on the West side. Tyler is pretty far to the East, right in line to Michigan.
Not sure I'll get near there. I want to drop down and see the Texas coast and then head to New Orleans.

I pretty much pick rv campgrounds about 3 hours drive from the last one, so where I stay is flexible in Texas. Though distances there stretch to four hours.
some of you guys might suggest a somewhat central place where more than one or two of us can get together.
Knowing that someone has to come get me. I could easily stay in Austin for several days. On the way home, unless something comes up, I'm just not going to rush. 7 weeks planned, I'd take another week if need be.

am trying to stay at more state/local parks. As long as they have power and water, I'm fine. I don't need full hookups every stop.
can save a lot of money that way. Though I do try to find an "extra nice" place occasionally, usually on the water. There are some very fancy rv places out west, my little 29 footer might not qualify. Some are for diesel pushers only. And many say over ten years old rig, go elsewhere, stay among
the unwashed second raters. .. Though if you have a shiny 40 footer, no matter how old (Prevost, Newell, Newmar) one can usually get in.

going to get a 70 quart supplementary freezer to put in living room of rv, under the table.
that way if someone just happens to send me home with too much outstanding Texas barbecue, the freezer will be ready.
Now which one of you Texans are going to show me what good barbecue is?...
Don, you and I will go out for a vegan lunch or dinner. This will be second week in October. Don't go cruising then...

Ted, we need to talk about routes going North once I get off 40.
I can go further to other side of Albuquerque but first week in October,
do I have to worry about snow there? do I need to stay on big road 75 or
what about those smaller roads 14, 41 and 285?

funny there is a route 66 rv park in your home town, and I'm staying at route 66 park on other side of
Albuquerque. I can come to Edgewood, but then do I backtrack or take the scenic byway?
just HOW scenic?....

good morning
28 going 49 today no rain

Pond still not overflowing although it is right at overflow elevation. Any rain fall will overflow it and could be a safety issues as well as cause damage to pavement and erosion of property.. Not hard to imagine what a 100 year rain fall will do

An animal is wedging under the fence for the vegetable yard. The 8 ft high wire mesh fence is extremely tight. I can only lift up the lower wire by an inch or so with lots of effort yet whatever borrowed under has caused the vertical wires to bend. What animal could it be? Plan to drive some rebar tied to the lower wire into the ground to close it off and push some dirt up to the fence with the excavator.

That’t sure looks familiar, Frits. I use tent peg or stout wire, something with hook at end to hold fence wire.
