good morning all
18 out now, going up to 30 in sunshine, should feel good

cd player never showed up, now they say Monday (or someone stole it...)
sent by UPS from 45 minutes away. If lost might just go to Worldwide Stereo and buy it there.
But I'd miss my 5 percent back from Amazon so will see what Monday brings.
I bet due to the snow the guy just ran out of time yesterday and the end of his/her run didn't get done.

Wagtail, glad your party went well, sounds like fun.
Phil, nice lighthouse!
Ted, I was wondering what was going up on those shelves.

when I bought my home in NC the kitchen had those shelves high up also. Filled with paperback books.
Out they went, and up went my collection of pottery.
Checked every once in a while that the good stuff hadn't got too close to the edge
make sure you set the brakes on those trucks!

have no idea what I'm doing today

Hope your dad is ok BEF getting old is not for sissy’s

Prayers for all our Country

11 trying to get to 35F. It will be a struggle, then 12 tonight. Woodstove warm.

BEF, your dad looks right at home on that tractor. I bet it keeps him happy and active.

LS, nice job on those shelves.

Had no trouble hiking across the swamp yesterday...all frozen, except the creek. Just a little snow left.

Made lattes for us yesterday...been a while since I pulled espresso shots, but came out great.

Good Morning!

Hod has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

3.2F might go,down another degree before allegedly heading to the low 40s, sunny day forecasted.

work went reasonably well, it seems while we were off Thursday & Friday they fixed a lot (not all) of the glitches. No server issues at least!

HVAC started just after midnight and has been cycling ever since, even with the woodstove running.

i think I want one of these — anyone have any experience?

The sawdust briquetteitizer I posted earlier is a bit ambitious, this one seems a bit more doable:

after church, we have to go to mom’s and see why her laptop isn’t working, then wait for this afternoon and some warmer temps to take dogs up for a walk and see how the sap is flowing from the walnut trees

i hope everyone has a happy healthy safe warm blessed day!

3F partly cloudy low teens for high steady 5mph wind.

Outside chores done E muffin time. :)

Plans for today...Couple wheel barrel loads of chunk wood, clean off feeding area, putter and watch some football...think I'm coming down with cabin fever. 🙄

Enjoy your day all.

Good morning, -6°F and going to 25°F on the plus side. Increasing cloudiness.

I think I will do exactly what I did yesterday....nothing. Did get a nap in though.

Yes NHBX I got stuck in my driveway, of all places. The elevation change is all of 4'. There is a button on the dash, if you push it the AWD will come off and you will have only front wheel drive. I only got stuck the once and got myself out by pushing that button. I still do not like those Japanese snow tires. But I have them now and will probably have them for another couple of years, unless I win the lottery. :(

The money I have invested in stocks and bonds needs to last me at least another 30 years. Hmmm, that would make me 107 when the money runs out. Might as well be optimistic about it. ;)

BEF, if there are no steep drop offs where Dad could roll the tractor, why not let him be? Being active is probably what is keeping him alive. JMHO

Have a safe day all

Good Morning Guys,
Ct, 8 degrees to start going to 26 ! I think this is the last really cold day ! 🙏 I hope !
At least the sun is out ! 😉

Mostly and Phil, thanks for the tips on the garage heater ! Yes, agree on the CO detector ! We are leaving early Wednesday morning for southern Florida for two weeks, so won’t do anything now !

BEF, hope your dad is ok ! So a friend of my wife’s husband fell yesterday on the ice in his DW ! He broke his hip, and at 80 yo that is not good ! I will pray for him in church later this morning! 🙏

As others on here have said, looks like an energy conservation day here !

Ted, beautiful job on the shelves, looking forward to the trucks on the shelves !

Phil, very nice, really liked the light house ! Thanks !

Hope all have a blessed and safe day ! 🙏

It may be mostly muscle memory.
What you worry about is when they start getting lost.
That is so correct. I saw Glen Campbell at one of his last concerts on the "farewell tour." He would remember lyrics and words, forget them mid-song, and need prompting to catch up. But his guitar playing was absolutely perfect and unchanged. So sad.

36F going to cloudy 53F here in Beautiful Northern Nevada.

Good morning! A strange weather day. Just one temp all day 38˚F with a rare E. wind. Increase in clouds and rains hourly. No more freezing temps so maybe between showers I'll put the citrus back in the back yard or at least in front of the garage door so they can get light and rain.

BEF I also vote for not taking away dads seat time but limiting it to times when there is no ice. There will be a time soon when he will not be able to climb on the tractor and the problem will solve itself.

Will attach pics of this weeks haul.
Phil, you do awesome woodworking. I mentioned before how similar the grain pattern in one of your pieces is to a box I made from a sugar pine tree.

I experimented with the japanese "shou sugi ban" method of wood burning for a finish. Used a torch on it, then light sanding. It looks OK for a first experiment, but not anywhere near your level of finish and care. Here is a pix ...

my Iphone updated last night and what a disaster.
I knew something was different when it said Bonjour to me when opening. :cautious:
I tried accessing a pic, they are all rearranged in folders and lots seem missing. wonder if it is an Icloud issue.
time for a new phone
that usually solves things
though this time not a huge advantage in the camera, which is all I care about. I otherwise avoid a cell phone like the plague.
plus I don't text.
a happy troglodyte

off to go food shopping with my 15 percent off coupon.
only good at more expensive place
generic stuff like breakfast sandwiches I buy at the cheaper market.
Actually that's something Costco is good for, if you can find something you like.
I have the freezer, and I'm still willing to buy green bananas...

Good Morning Again,
Ok, so either Ken or Kilroy, cant seem to remember !:cautious:

We were talking about replacing the anodes in electric hot water heaters. I ordered and received a new rod. I installed the hot water heater in july of 2022 so it will be two years this summer. Any suggestions on when to do that, I am thinking the 2 year mark. Just curious, also planning on getting an in expensive impact tool to get the old anode out ! Thoughts ?

Coffee is brewing. 17° with snow this morning. Heading to 25° with continued snow. So I went out in the cold for gas and diesel. It was -1° with wind. I thought I prepared for it. 2 pair of thermal socks, snow boots. 4 layers of pants, 4 layers of shirts, thermo vest, parka, 2 layer knit cap and thermal mittens. I sure was warm getting to the gas station. But had to take gloves off to run pump. I got cold. Made it back home and put fuel cans away in barn. Made it back in house. Got undressed in to house clothes. Took a nap. That was a lot of work just to go out in the cold. No plans to go out in the cold today.
Blue Jay staying warm.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Good Morning All.
Looking forward to a week of springtime warmth and rain for the next 7 days. This deep freeze has been a bit much. 🙂

I have something similar made by Seek Thermal. One serious flaw is that I have iOS devices, it has a lightning connector, and my devices now all have USB-C.
But it worked reasonably well when I could use it.
Perhaps the Android version isn’t obsolete.

Rain rain and more rain. What a mess.
Farmers have been planting wheat through the night trying to get seed in the ground before the big storm.
Unimproved clay roads are a slippery mess. Creek is running full. 55º all day. There will be a 4-5 hr break today and more tonight & tomorrow. We need rain but not all at once... but we will take it. We all have wells that need replenishing. Our old well 160 ft is mostly dry. The new well is 500 ft and never failed in 20 plus yrs.
Wish you all well today

has anyone else had problems logging on? I get part way and it keeps saying Can't Find That
and then in a few minutes it clears.

hope your Sunday is peaceful and relaxing.
I keep getting that message. But wait a few minutes and all is OK. Have not had that problem with PC. Only on iPad.

Morning all, 22 going up to 27 and sunny.
Son driving on mostly clear roads he did fine.

Some more work in the garage completed. Outlets remounted, some more furring strips and panels mounted. Going forward all are going to take time with pipes and pumps and conduit in the way. But it's coming along.
So nice working in there with the mini-split.

Today, more of that, son is off to hang out with GF, wife did the shopping. Stores weren't too bad.

BEF - glad your dad is ok, Always worry about mine driving. He was not a good driver to start with as he gets lost easily.

Wagtail - sounds like a very successful day

Detached garage is having a problem with one of the doors going up, wonder if it's time for spring replacement..

Phil, amazing work, Really put a lot of thought into it as the pieces all look totally finished. Better than most of what I see at antique shops.

Anode replacement is usually 4-5 years, but if you have any water issues should replace sooner. When you do a flush every year or so, what comes out?

Looking to put back the heavy metal shelves on the garage walls.

Should I use sleeve anchors 3/8" so I don't have to worry about finding the hollows in the cinder blocks?

I do have a picture of the raw wall if I do need to use the wing style that was originally used.
Any Advice?

Be well,

Front wall while mounting the outlets back up. Curves are from using wide angle lens.
Can certainly see the mess I have to work in/maneuver around. Once I am done, the whole garage will be rearranged, will clean up shelves and add new ones and try to order this mess as it's our biggest storage area. Have full sized stair master, ping pong and other tables, chairs, tents, and stuff from kid growing up.
