It's cold in So Cal. I put the heating pad on the bed tonight. Then the flannel sheets on top...It'll be good sleeping tonight.
Spent a chunk of today at the DMV. California says happy 70th birthday by making you come in for an eye test, a license renewal test, and a picture. Stupid drivers test was riddled with law questions... like how many years in jail do you get for leaving the scene of a fatal accident? Multiple choice...really? What?
How about should you stay at the scene of an accident, yes or no? WTF is the matter with people. Anyway - I passed - even passed the motorcycle renewal. Although it's been 20 yrs since I sold the Road King you never know when the urge to scratch that itch will resurface. ;)
Have a good night and stay dry and warm.

scott, I made the genny location a permanent location until I can afford a whole house automatic switch genny. The cables all run under the driveway and into the house through 2 60 amp outside boxes. I go out and fire up the genny, wait for about 2 minutes or when the choke opens and then throw the breaker switch on the genny. Go back into the basement and switch the power plugs from mains to genny. There are two low power clamp on desk lights hung from the floor trusses that are on the genny circuit all the time. One over the sump pump and the other one at the wood furnace. That way I don't break my leg/neck getting into the basement without the house lights on.
I need an electrician to hook up the well pump (220V) to the same system. Then I would just throw the 2 position center off knife switch and have power to the well pump, too. With the cables burried I can drive over the wires until the cows come home and wont do any damage.

Coffee just finished brewing. 31° with light snow this morning. Heading to 34° with snow and wind. Little bit of everything yesterday. Snow, Sleet, Hail and rain. .76" of rain for the day. A ten minute job of installing a bolt in tractor step took over an hour. Got it done. Spent rest of the day in house. Dentist appointment this morning for cleaning. Then while I am out will do some errands and grocery shopping. No other plans yet.

Good morning, the low is 26 and the high to 34°F. Wind NE 9 mph. Snow.
We got our promised 6". I WILL be plowing starting about 9 A.M. Block heater already turned on.
NHBX, I am paying over $6.oo/US gallon for my diesel fuel and I want to get more 'mileage' out of it. Straight pipe does it nicely. A 2 hour increase per 7 gallon tank is worth it to me. There are enough bends in the exhaust that I feel the back pressure issue is being dealt with, not that diesels need much of that.
I don't get the black soot all over my loader arms now either.
Also, keep in mind that I did not do this until the warranty was finished.
Some people like to turn up the pump, not me I leave that to the experts. Straight pipe is as far as I will go when it comes to messing with a diesel.

Many years ago I straight piped a 671 Detroit diesel, when my boss seen it he told me that "he distinctly remembered there being a muffler on the truck the last time he saw it and I had a month to get one back on". The next weekend I opened up the muffler I took off the truck and gutted it and put it back on the truck. The boss was happy and the truck was 10 times as loud as it was before putting the can back on. lol
He had to chase me from Redcliff, Alberta to Brooks, Alberta and finally caught up to me when I stopped to get my load of raw cement. The exhaust wasn't the only modification I did to that one. The truck had a 13 spd and right behind it was a 4 spd transmission. 1 was under drive/deep reduction, 2 was direct drive, 3 was the first overdrive and 4 was the second overdrive. With three and four, you had to drop back to 7th on the 13spd for it to work. The same with 4th. Truck was capable of over 100 mph. That was back in the late '70s. The speed limit going across the prairie was just a suggestion. This was also middle of the night driving. We had freedom up here in Canada as there were no log books.

Enough of the good old days.

You guys dealing with this fluffy white sh*t, try to stay vertical, we aren't as flexible as we were when we were kids.

Have a safe day all

Good morning! 40˚F heading the upper 60s with a South wind.

There is snow in our forecast for Monday and then Tuesday a low of 15˚F. I wonder what type of exaggerated words the news media will be using to get clicks.

Starting to get prepared for the big freeze, patio plants in garage here, and drain the water pipes in the estate house and fill up the propane tank. It was supposed to be sold and occupied by now but my cousin insisted on implementing her survey where the property was split so her son could buy part of it. This has caused some unfortunate delays in the closing, but we are both hanging in there. If it closes at the end of the month it will be a success, if not, my first mistake as executor.

I use this rain gauge to doublecheck the weather station. It is accurate to 1/100"

47, rain stopped. Going sideways to 49 and more wind. Need it to dry out. Will check gauge at dawn.

Several local roads flooded and some trees down. Glad I don't need to travel today. Light flickered, but no outage.

Thomas, that was my first time there...saw only birds (winter wren, Carolina wren, juncos, pileated woodpeckers) and two hikers along the trail. They have bear, deer, coyotes and others.

Don, I've been using that gauge for 12 years. Don't forget to take your funnel and inner tube out for your snow.

Wood rack at the bottom, so will need to wheelbarrow several loads up to the porch.

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

32.2F going to low 40s, partly/mostly sunny day. We had some snow accumulation overnight -

work is getting more and more entertaining (for varying values of “entertaining”) —- suffice to say that the CD players are getting packed for work this morning… drop in/tune out .. .

anywho, Time for coffee.

i hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

44 outside this AM, heading to upper 40's.

Lots of rain, no power loss for us....roads all flooded in area. People are attempting to pass through our road, some turn around, some don't. Makes for a quarter mile backup. Just a matter of time before a water rescue is needed. There has to be at least a foot of water on the road....

Should make for an interesting commute. Lots of traffic this AM, I guess people just don't really know where the creeks and flood areas are.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe.

38F now mid 40's for high rain ending around 10am.
Almost 5" wet heavy like cement snow, winds were howling 9pm-4am  now 20mph.

Took Mrs. to work roads were poor traveling hardly any traffic both ways 25mile round trip and deep ponding on the road.

Plans for today...clean roofs soon, afternoon Kubota will get good work out removing snow.

Enjoy your day all.
