Several years back, my son and I traveled and hiked the Olympic Peninsula, chasing world champion trees, among other sights. Well, this oak I saw yesterday doesn't quite challenge them, but pretty big around. That's my trekking pole leaning against it on the left.

28 going to 49.

Buppies, I'd like to hear more about your trail.

Mostly, did you make home made spaghetti sauce? Looks good.

Phil, nice your wife picked that wood up for you. Maybe make her something special?

So BEF, now you need to sleep 16 hours and lot your wife make the coffee. 😁

My loving wife is still sick, but after making her 2 pour overs yesterday morning, she gave me the green light to hit the mountains. Could sure tell it was winter...saw no other hikers on the trail, although it is a rather hidden trail...snow all gone, but lots of frost heave, temps in 30s. Also, very little auto traffic.

You know that box with cables and adapters ? Sure you know, everybody has such box.
I can proudly announce that recently I find use for one of those cables ! :ROFLMAO:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weather still the same, around 0 C. Forecast say - will go down, and we will have white Xmas. Should be nice
Yesterday kids had great party with their team. While they were busy there I went around shops, spend 150 € at bookstore. But at least have covered presents question.
Should deliver last few bottles of booze to my customers. That's about it for this year. Anything new what comes on my desk is "sounds like 2024 problem" <tm>
Have a nice Friday !
I have one of those, and about once or twice a year I find a reason to rummage around in there… sometimes for repurposing a wall wart, sometimes for something to extract a short length of wire from, and sometimes even for the actual cable for its intended use!
Good Morning!
God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).
Currently 28.8, it went down to 26.1, should hit 50w. Made it to 59.7 yesterday.
Dogs got up to woodlot, first time in several days. We got around a hundred yards in and Harry caught a scent and went nuts — after another hundred yards I was worried he would inspire himself lunging with the prong collar, so he got put back in his crate in the car and Mrs, Bailey and I went up to the top of the walk, then we explored up to the far corner of the property so Mrs could see what it looked like up there. Lots of deer scrapes! Then we went back down and got Harry out and took him for a short walk on the other side of the lot so he could get out a bit… cooking his heels while Bailey got an extended walk changed his attitude considerable and he walked perfectly.
Harry got his birthday sweater on today:
amazingly, it fits quite well - it is long enough without being loose. Wool/alpaca blend, no synthetic, heavy and you can feel how durable the yarn is. Hopefully it will hold up to Harry’s activities!
the rest of the day was mostly energy conservation, today will be a brief run into town to drop off a jar of coquito to the chiropractor, drop off some mail, and deposit a check, then working on cooking up some kapusta for Christmas Day & New Years Day meals. I have the ham hocks in the Dutch oven on the woodstove to get things rolling:
I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!
only Three Shoplifting Days until Christmas!!!!
Good Morning.
18° when Zoe woke me up this morning, 24 now and going to 38. Another clear day. Yesterday was a good day of delivering baked goods (and in some cases batteries), I managed to squeeze a few deliveries in with the little plane as well. Still more to go, probably finish today or tomorrow. I’m fitting lots of other stuff in while I’m out and about.
Had a great time with grandson and family at Peddler’s Village. Had a nice dinner, and made it back home in time to walk Zoe, and then head out to gather with my old friends. Sadly the group gets smaller every year.
Got home around midnight, and slept like a baby.
Today should be more deliveries, but I’m going to start with cleaning out the firebox on the smoker while the ground is frozen and I can use the carryall to dump the ash in the far hedgerow.
Not sure what else I’ll get into, but for now I have to go get Zoe, who is ignoring my wife, and just lying outside in the field playing with a ball.
Morning all, 27 going to 39 and sunny. Winter is here to stay.
Got some more of the undercounter lights replaced from florescent to LED.
Waiting for some GFI outlets to show up to finish the last two.
Sons friends over last night, got them out of here to the apartment at some point so we could get some sleep.
He has a concert tonight and the hosts have invited us to hang out while the kids do the music.
Today an old friend is supposedly coming down from NYC to meet up for lunch in New Hope. It's a long drive, so if he bags I can understand, his wife couldn't be with him so it's just him and I in New Hope today.
Be Well,
Before:
I got some sleep in the lazyboy, and a sore throat now. Don’t know why, but when I come down with something it hits me hard. When it starts I ache all over like the flu, but no nausea. Enough about that
39°
Stove needs cleaned, but I’ll keep pushing the ashes aside for now. Need to refill. When I filled the box with 14 bags yesterday, I put a couple more on top. Only 6 feet from me, starring at me thru the window.
Wife is busy doing her Friday cleaning, and she doesn’t feel great either.
And she did make the coffee today. Which has helped the throat.
Need to wrap gifts.
Our Saturday breakfast group did a name draw, but we probably won’t go tomorrow. But we did order some rolls from the Mennonite market next door so one of use might run our gifts in. Used an online name draw site, and you enter gift ideas. I drew my wife’s name, lol. She got one of the other guys, and got him a hatchet, so I know who she drew. It came in amazon box with blade cut thru the box. 😂
Good morning! Low of 26°, heading to 48°. High clouds now, rain moving in around 17:00. Chance of snow tonight, but probably rain, being tonight's temp is supposed to only drop to 36°.
The forecasts are all over the place..... this system is a "warm" one, coming out of SoCal. We are right at the elevation (7,000) that it will fluctuate above and below freezing, so going to be a mixed bag.....
Paul, beautiful pics of Peddler's Village. Old stomping grounds.... the wifey and I always enjoyed going there. Probably a lot different now than it was 30 years ago.
Were you dropping gifts out of the little plane? ----
I can visualize the trail of tiny parachutes.......
Dennis, hope you're over the worst part of the illness. Sorry you can't get some good sleep. Hope you can get a nap in......
Drew, glad you didn't have to risk absconding with the MIL's batteries.... PopG to the rescue! ---- now the big question --- Is the tie working?
Scott, I can't believe that you don't have snow on the ground. Strange for Vermont.
Last plaque is done....whew! Nothing like waiting until the last minute! Pulled a few boards in prep for the next project of the high display shelves in the addition. Did get the corbel pieces cut out and the facing edge routed.
Hopefully I'll get the long boards planed and joined today. No rush.... this is to enjoy some leisurely woodworking.
This year's Christmas will be a little strange.... celebrating twice..... first with the son and 2 GS's on Christmas day, then the daughter and family will be coming down on Thursday, MIL in tow also.
BIL will be flying in on Thursday from California . I'll pick him up at the airport late morning. He's currently going through chemotherapy. Very aggressive adenocarcinoma that metastasized to multiple spots. Iffy prognosis.
He really got dealt a bad hand.... he lost his wife of 30 years in a tragic scuba diving accident a year and a half ago. Then 6 months later got diagnosed with cancer. I honestly don't know how he's been able to deal with everything.
OK, got to get off that subject......
Everyone have a peaceful and joyful celebration this holiday weekend!
Tie works great Ted. A little worse for the wear but keeps on jingling
friend just left, enjoyed our tea and sweets together, and she brought me more cookies.
not what I need at all
now off to pick up another friend and head to airport.
beautiful sunny day out.
Ken, good luck finding a place to park in New Hope today. The half of the world not at Peddlers Village will be downtown New Hope.
Popgadget, great pics of the lights.
Nope. Good old fashioned way. I can tell you from experience that it is not easy to drop something with any sort of accuracy from an airplane, and the difficulty goes up exponentially with altitude.
The reproduction of the Motor Wagon is still here
Made by Karl Benz in 1886 and was the first driven under its own power
His wife drove it 70 miles to visit her mother to prove the concept
No gas stations she had to stop at pharmacies to get gas on the way
I liked this video:
Don't know how authentic it is
thought this was cute, from an 1879 newspaper:
Cure for that disorder of the mouth commonly called scandal.
Take of "good nature"
one ounce; of a herb called by the Indians "mind your own business."
mix this with a little "charity for others.",
add two or three sprigs of "keep your teeth."
simmer them together in a vessel called "circumspection" for a short time, and it will be fit for use.
Application:
The symptoms are a violent itching in the tongue, which invariably takes place when you are in company with a species of animals called Gossips.
When you feel a fit of it coming on, take a teaspoon of the mixture:
Hold it in your mouth, which you will keep closed. Shut it until you get home, and you will be completely cured.
Keep a small bottle with you at all times, and on the slightest symptom, repeat the dose.
