good morning, 54 going to 68 today no rain in the FC

Got the covid booster and flu shots yesterday. Slightly sore from the flu shot otherwise no after effect

Picked up groceries and had a mostly indoor day

Drove up trash for pick up. Using the trailer hitch on the RTV for trash cans.

Anvil update:

it looks like it is a Sodefors anvil, I will wire-wheel it later and get a better image of the mark.

It always amazed me at the stupidity of many of the drug test "requirements".
When I was working as a contractor and having to go on many different worksites for varied companies I would be required to get a drug test before I could go on the site.
These could be city, town or village water or wastewater, pulp or paper, chemical or petro-chemical and others that needed calibration of various transmitters and controllers.

When I went with "permanent" employment with a pharmaceutical manufacture performing calibrations on equipment used for growth and production of materials for injecting into the human body and severely controlled by FDA regulations.

No drug tests or testing required.
Simply amazing and actually mind boggling.

Good Morning!!!! 59F @ 6:15AM. Abundant sunshine. High 83F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Mr. Fox is outside barking in the new dawn.

Worked just shy of 30 years without ever being tested for drugs, until the day I announced my retirement. No love lost between us...

Got the new toilet valve installed, but had to use a gear puller to remove the old sealing ring from the compression fitting. Then a pair of ViseGrips for the last bit. But new one doesn't leak.

Got a wrong number text message from someone, so texted back to let them know. Got a nice reply apologizing, and it turned out to be from a younger woman that said they worked in D.C. and was from Taiwan. Then she got a little too personal, and I started to wonder if the original message was some kind of scam. Blocked the number, and not long after that another "wrong number" text showed up. Ignored that one; learned my lesson.

Noticed an over voltage warning light on the deep well controller yesterday, and it wasn't the first time I've seen it recently. Called the local utility to report it, and they sent someone out. Yep, even after shutting down the solar power system, still reading over 255VAC. Fellow goes away to check other lines, comes back and said someone else had rebalanced the grid in another spot to cause the problem. They fiddled with it and it came down to 251, 2 volts below the tripping point for the pump controller, but still not right. Good help is hard to find, I guess.

That shot the afternoon in the butt, so no work on the motorcycle. Maybe today.

Happy Hump Day!

Good morning! Low of 46°, heading to 80°. Sunny. Forecast is rinse and repeat until Sat., then a chance of t-storms.

The weather guessers were all excited yesterday....
El Nino was confirmed at 99% probability through the winter. That means cooler and wetter weather for the region. Being we didn't have a monsoon season, the moisture would be welcome

Wng, CONGRATULATIONS! First grandchild. A milestone.

Phil, your work continues to amaze! Beautifully done!

Dennis, that was funny.... I wonder if he was just playing with you? ......

Drew, safe travels back home. Glad you had a good trip...aside from riding out the storm.....

Everyone have a great day!

56F going to mid sixties. Cloudy. After 4 days of rain it will be good to get after it. Lawn is still wet. I'm ready for a pretty day. Supposed to warm up next week.

Still getting peaches from the farm stand but they will be over soon. Still pretty good.

Take care.

Chris

Very nice!

I will be nice to be able to pound on metal with a proper anvil instead of the disc brake rotors or train rail piece (a 3/4” slice - useful for getting into hollow objects but only if they are flat), or the 3” think piece do 3” billet steel that was Grandpa’s Nail Straightener… or Great-Grandpa’s Columbia’s vise (very bad form, I know, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do…)

Made pancakes this morning. "Use by" date on the package is March 14, 2018. They were still good, but I'll need to put it on the shopping list...

Yes, flipping the VA lot if we find something we like better.
The benefit of WV is no building permits, no zoning. Which is also a downside. If you follow Mike Morgan on YouTube, this is in the area of his WV property.
But would take some dirt moving to make a good build site.

Another anvil update:

after a mild exfoliation with a wire wheel, I have discovered it is not 137lbs:

here are some clearer images of other markings, after wire wheel and coat of oil:

now it looks like a proper anvil, not a rusty relic—-

I am now prepared to repel any pesky coyotes!

I need to convert an old tire rim into a forge. I have an old Century projector cooling fan that I can wire up to an old sewing machine pedal for forced air. I do need to start scrounging some tongs up, or even making some myself!

without wrecking your toe, can you weigh that anvil yourself Kilroy?
Did the Swedes put every pound in?
reminds me of that tool guy on youtube
"we're going to test that!"

anvils, tongs, when all the lights go out, back to the iron age.
darned good skill.
when the EMP wrecks all your laser guided cnc's and replicators,
anvil would be mighty handy

Lou, you are a man of many talents.
several folks here have QC or whatever the current term is background

specification certification. That sounds grand enough. ;)

figuring out how to ensure 100 percent product quality is very interesting.
many industries have allowable numbers of all kinds of bugs and fecal matter, in small amounts of course.
none of us want to eat that. but maybe that's ok in non food items.
so how do you engineer it out?
Even the water you use likely has "forever chemicals" in it.
maybe a good RO setup would get rid of enough

enough unloaded, food in, will do clothes later, but first have to go mow the lawn
nice day, no hardship though my neck hurts, will keep my soft collar on.
and I bet I have some sweet peppers to pick

home sweet home
