76F with a light rain shower @ 12:30, calling for a high of 77F and rain most of the day.

Woman was very industrious yesterday on weeding and debris clean up before I got out there:

All in all, decent progress on that front.

Hauled 2 bucketloads up and added them to the compost pile.

Brought down 2 bucketloads of screened compost, unloaded the 1st one by hand with a shovel (not enough room to turn and dump) on the bed under the maple tree.

Dumped the other one on the area at the south end of the northeast planting bed that She had cleaned out and got it spread. Looking like it could use another bucketload:

Got area over the leach bed and the rest of the east side mowed.

No feeders refilled and no work done in the garden ... :(

Agenda for the rest of the day:

Help Woman clean out refrigerator and freezer.

Maybe sneak out between the raindrops later and get those feeders refilled.

Catch up on paperwork.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday ... (y)

Good morning! Low of 57°, heading to a high of just 73°. I'll take it! No rain yesterday, so I guess we were in the 60% not going to get it......

heavy cloud cover so far this morning, but no drops so far.... maybe this afternoon.

There have been 3 hummingbirds here all summer. This morning, it multiplied to 8.... all fighting of course. Except for a brief moment, when all 8 were calmly perched at each flower on the feeders. Didn't last long.... maybe 30 seconds.... then back to determining aerial superiority.

Need to get a few propane tanks filled today, not much else planned.

Drew, that picnic table looks nice. Should hold up to the weather for sure!

Paul, sorry to hear about the lightning damage. Hopefully it is limited to what you found already.

Sorry you guys in Texas and the SE are dealing with the heat and humidity. Hopefully will break the pattern soon!

Anybody heard from Bird? It's been quite a while.....
And Jay.....

Hope everyone has a great start to the week!

Walked the trail in town again. One app shows 1.6 miles in 26 minutes, other app shows 2.6 miles in 45 minutes which is the time we walked.
We walked the loop twice. Afterwards as we were cooling off, a guy asked us how we liked the trail. He is the guy that got the trail created, and it’s named for him. Said he was on city council over 20 yrs. Nice guy.
Cool you got to meet him! Glad you did the hike.

Anyone use a bug zapper? If so, have you ever seen it kill: 1. Moths, 2. European Hornets? Any recommendations or warnings?

I'm graduating from spraying those hornets to possibly using a zapper. Never have tried one. The hornets are active at night, and I "read on the internet" that powerful bug zappers will do a number on them. The foaming spray just makes European hornets horny and ornery and they've doubled in numbers.

But we don't want to kill moths or other (for us) desirables.

Thanks.

Good morning!!! (afternoon, actually).
73F @ 1:00PM. Sun and clouds mixed. High near 75F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Your trampoline looks like the one in the back yard here, Ken. Hope to recover a few bucks by selling it.

RNG do you have warranty for your newly discovered items
The seller of the home provided a home warranty, but it'll take a few days for the paperwork to catch up and I can tell what it covers.

There's a stack of instruction sheets and booklets for the appliances, garage door openers, and such, but precious few receipts. Very likely I'll be looking for nameplate information and contacting manufacturers with serial numbers to see if there is any warranty left. The sticker on the hot tub revealed the serial number and a manufacturing date in '06, so I already know I'm SOL for warranty coverage if anything turns out to be broken on it.
RNG, I hope you have a good road to egress away from a wildfire. One that preferably goes into the prevailing winds.
Prevailing winds come out of the west, but this place has access to 4 lane roads within a mile or so heading in all compass directions. US101 is the main freeway, running north and south, closest entrance maybe a mile and a half away. CA1 is about the same distance away, also running north/south. All these roads would quickly jam in an emergency as 110,000 people tried to get away. A fair number of two lane roads wind out through the canyons, and they might have a better chance of staying open. But with apps like Waze and google maps, there aren't many secrets left. The joys of urban living.

Visited a couple nearby parks to sus out the dog friendliness of them yesterday. One was just a few acres, but no leash requirements and pretty close to the house. The other one was huge, has a couple of no-leash areas, but allows dogs everywhere if they are leashed. Lots of people enjoying the grass and shade, lots of built in BBQs, and no problems finding a parking space. We'll be back to both of 'em.

The park was pretty close to the airport, and while we were there a pair of fighter jets circled and landed. Near as I can tell, they're F18s, but no clue where they're stationed. Neighbors say they don't hear jets very often, but I've heard two today, so maybe things are changing? Oops, there's another one...

Also hit the dollar store for some inexpensive household items like hand soap, mop, broom, dust pan, and such. Finished the day with steak on the BBQ and a couple beers, and a really bad movie. Didn't have any trouble sleeping through half of it.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Thomas, do you feel worried about Boo being so close to the house. Do you go out at night and get surprised?
During bears mating season we keep watchful eye.
Boo very contented,he like to sleep on his burlap blanket near the wood pile sometimes edge lawn when he can observe during the night,he keeps fallen apples acorns clean up on lawn and field :) wild berry patch he won't share. :( about 4 years he be hanging around.

Little Boo...That little booger needs some more learning...chew on garden hose, takes Boo blanks, snoops in shed moves things around, and test Boo couple times taught quick lesson.

We yet to be surprise or close encounter, motion detector lights give us heads up when critter close to house.

This afternoon notice Little Boo relaxing on Boo blanket

'morning. Got the brake bleeder and m/cyl adapter configured, and got the SIL's boat trailer brakes bled. Handy tool, since I'm usually alone, when it's time to bleed anything. I warned him, that the next time he tows it, to be aware. This will be the first time the brakes will work, since he's owned it. His pickup has a trailer "setting" that compensates, but it'll be different now... Also got their TV antenna lead replaced and it works - free air TV. They don't watch much TV, but it can come in handy.

Raining hard here now (and welcome).

David, fresh water or salt water pool?

made appt at car radio place in Hatboro to fix my rv stereo/backup camera.
I used them for my first car in the 60's.
they were booked almost three weeks out.

Fresh, Drew.

But I curious as to adding the salt attachment. A new neighbor has one and says it is great. I have been hesitant in past as they use electricity, but neighbor is also off grid and I did do that PV upgrade earlier this year.

Good evening! The cold front came in!! The temp at 1:45pm went from 100˚ to 99˚ for 15 minutes before spiking up to 109˚. The real payoff will be the next two mornings when the temps will come close to 70˚.

Electric bill for July was $183 with every day over 100˚, 1413 kWh used

Water bill for no rain July was $66, 15kgal used. I thought they both would be more, pleasant surprise.
