Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 8:45 in Lompoc, CA. Partly cloudy. High 79F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.
you might not need much. I sure hope you can recoup some of the $$$ you invested in your current home's backup system.
Probably not. The home is already equipped with a solar power system, with Tesla battery backup, and so far, they haven't had any Public Safety Power Shutoffs here. I might look in to a standby generator, but only if PG&E service takes another dive. I will look in to selling the propane in the 1000 gallon tank back to the local propane company, and maybe even the tank. That would put a nice chunk of change back into my pocket, and the house would run on a picnic bottle for several weeks, much longer than that if I wasn't living there.
are you closer to the water?
Yes, much closer than where I'm at now. Ten miles to the beach as the crow flies, with a range of hills between. Keeps out some of the fog, but it is a marine environment, often with cloudy mornings and sunny afternoons.

Instead of metal and wood shop in junior high school, we had construction and manufacturing. Built the corner of a house, 1'x4', with footer, block foundation, floor, walls, ceiling, roof, and even a faucet and electricity. We made several small items in the manufacturing class, each of us doing a part of the job, and working together on an initial design. It was back to wood and metal shop in High School, and I took one or the other until I graduated. Learned to weld there, then took a vocational class once I graduated and went on to college. Still do a lot of welding to this day, and moving the shop south will be the biggest part of relocating down here.

Sounds like your mother led a charmed life, Don. Sorry to hear of her passing.

Took yesterday to visit with friends, enjoying a scrumptious taco feed on their patio overlooking the Pacific. He's headed for heart surgery sometime in the next couple weeks, she just got back from a motorcycle trip to Iowa to visit family. Hope we're back together and healthy real soon.

Looks like a hike with the dog is on the agenda for today, not much else as my buddy is recovering from cataract surgery. Excellent results so far, but eye still sensitive to light.

Realtor is working on a request for repairs memo to the seller, listing everything that needs done, but only asking for a credit on the selling price for those presenting a safety or code problem. Hoping to get that submitted tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm still scanning the real estate listings, just in case something better comes along.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

80F and sunny @ 12:00, heading up to around 82F.

Up a little earlier today (before 10 AM)

Will be mostly sunny until around 16:00 and then mostly cloudy.

Temps ramping up over the next several days, into the 90's by Tuesday for four days. Will be the first 90F+ temperature for July which isn't typical (late) Should be good for the garden.

Hopper feeder refilled yesterday first thing, still need to refill tube feeders.

Got rest of that row marked out and all the holes melted for it after installing new hose for the torch. New hose is about twice as long and much more flexible than the original which is nice.

Also got the last four red cabbage plants put in the ground.

After that I laid out the last of the roll of the weed block fabric and got it stapled down ... albeit not quite as neatly as The Woman's previous layout and stapling work.

Still need to lay out 3 pieces we have cut and get those stapled down.

Melted the two holes for the new blueberry plants and another four holes for the yellow tomatoes. Still short two holes for those.

Got 2 yellow tomato plants planted in the ground.

Re-jiggered monofilament fencing and expanded the area using the existing line last thing yesterday before I quit. Getting close to enclosing the entire area.

Got some beet seeds put in water last night before I hit the rack, will try and get those put in the ground today.

Went outside just before I hit the sack to retrieve the key out of the Cub, shined my light over at the apple tree - doe and a fawn cleaning up whatever had fallen on the ground.

Agenda for today:

Refill tube feeders.

Get blueberries and yellow tomatoes planted.

Start moving whatever cucumbers, squash, and pumpkin plants that have survived out to garden and see about getting those in the ground.

Get the two sections of weed block fabric laid out and stapled down on west side of garden area.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

70°F and .22 inches rain and just started raining again.

Yesterday’s main success was a joint effort with Sophie. Removed everything from the freezer, cleaned and repacked. Also had to replace the broken bracket clips. Not the first time, wish they were more sturdily built as replacements are now $20 each. The little ears break off that hold them in place. Just might try JB Weld next time. Did find a vac sealed package of seasoned steaks dated 2019.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

My Exmark Lazer amazingly only has two grease fittings. It’s been very easy to work on. I bought it used with a tired engine, and after a season to prove itself, I put a new engine on it. That only took a couple of hours, it’s really well engineered and constructed.
I think my ZT only has 2 grease fittings, the front wheels. Deck is sealed bearings. Belt driven, no shaft.

Good worship this morning. My son led singing, and I didn't mess up his song slides this time. Good lunch at the Italian Place. after next week, they are closed for 3 weeks to go visit family in Italy.
Just catching up on things this afternoon. Wife made a good peach cobbler yesterday, need to get some of that. Tonight is hot dog cookout at church after PM worship. Been watching some good pole barndominium videos on youtube.

Became a little too hot to work the vegetable patch so went to use the excavator with AC and moved a few rocks. It was either cover it over with dirt or dig them up. But when starting to dig them up the project got bigger since there were a dozen or so good size rocks to move. Got the big ones moved and now have a bunch of smaller ones that will be used for erosion control in the creek.

The ZT has two drive shafts. One from engine to transmission and one from transmission to center gearbox on the mower deck. They have be greased from below so drive it up on ramps to do that. Had a zerk go bad on a u-joint and that involved taken the screws off for the joint flange and pivot it to the side to get access to change the zerk. That was of course the only one that needed that the others can be easily changed without any difficulty. I had zerks break on the spindles for the front wheels a few times likely hitting branches. Easy outs usually gets the stub left out.
