Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 8:45 in Lompoc, CA. Partly cloudy. High 79F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.
you might not need much. I sure hope you can recoup some of the $$$ you invested in your current home's backup system.
Probably not. The home is already equipped with a solar power system, with Tesla battery backup, and so far, they haven't had any Public Safety Power Shutoffs here. I might look in to a standby generator, but only if PG&E service takes another dive. I will look in to selling the propane in the 1000 gallon tank back to the local propane company, and maybe even the tank. That would put a nice chunk of change back into my pocket, and the house would run on a picnic bottle for several weeks, much longer than that if I wasn't living there.
are you closer to the water?
Yes, much closer than where I'm at now. Ten miles to the beach as the crow flies, with a range of hills between. Keeps out some of the fog, but it is a marine environment, often with cloudy mornings and sunny afternoons.
Instead of metal and wood shop in junior high school, we had construction and manufacturing. Built the corner of a house, 1'x4', with footer, block foundation, floor, walls, ceiling, roof, and even a faucet and electricity. We made several small items in the manufacturing class, each of us doing a part of the job, and working together on an initial design. It was back to wood and metal shop in High School, and I took one or the other until I graduated. Learned to weld there, then took a vocational class once I graduated and went on to college. Still do a lot of welding to this day, and moving the shop south will be the biggest part of relocating down here.
Sounds like your mother led a charmed life, Don. Sorry to hear of her passing.
Took yesterday to visit with friends, enjoying a scrumptious taco feed on their patio overlooking the Pacific. He's headed for heart surgery sometime in the next couple weeks, she just got back from a motorcycle trip to Iowa to visit family. Hope we're back together and healthy real soon.
Looks like a hike with the dog is on the agenda for today, not much else as my buddy is recovering from cataract surgery. Excellent results so far, but eye still sensitive to light.
Realtor is working on a request for repairs memo to the seller, listing everything that needs done, but only asking for a credit on the selling price for those presenting a safety or code problem. Hoping to get that submitted tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm still scanning the real estate listings, just in case something better comes along.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!
