88F and clouding up very nicely - looks promising ... (y)

Got that one blueberry planted. Noted that once you get down 4 or 5 inches, the soil in the garden is pretty moist ... which is very good news.

Emptied the Water Buffalo and then hauled it around back for a refill:

5 rhododendrons and 5 azaleas in the northeast planting bed watered and fertilized. They all got 2 gallons of Miracle Gro for acid-loving plants, plus another 2 gallons of straight water. Except for one rhododendron, which had no greenery on it at all - it got 2 gallons of plain water ... just to see if I can resuscitate it.

And watered the lilac bush over there too (4 gallons)

Also watered some of the hosta in the bed over there below the big maple tree. The two that I purchased are hanging on, one that the deer don't seem to prefer a little better than the other.

Plus the small volunteer redbud tree in that bed is still hanging on. Gave it a drink as well.

Got another plant order placed with Burgess - mostly flowers/flowering shrubs/bushes:

Did order some thornless blackberry bushes though.

Think I'm going to grab a shower and head down to the local garden center and see what they have available as far as vegetable plants.

Only 4 at breakfast. Even my wife stayed home, which meant I had to get some stuff from store for her. As soon as I got out of food lion, I see a text for more stuff.
83° currently
Fixed 2 toilet flappers. Both had come apart and snapped back together. All these years, never had this happen, and 2 do it within days.
I uploaded a 2nd YouTube video, first was me mowing, 2nd much shorter of dad mowing.
Then I took a nap, and just woke up.
Pig roast at 5.

Good morning, 69 going to 82 today no rain

Kil, that shed looks good. Are you putting in some steps.

Like Buppie says we will see about today

The Sammis Power plant North of Steubenville is being shut down. After upgrading pollution controls for 2 billion seems a shame. Spent several years on the project. Lots of memories and recall many people that I interacted with. One was the Mayer of the small town that collected taxes from the plant. He helped with permitting building out over highway 7 and off loading permit from barges off the river. Asked him how he could stay in office so long and he said Frits it is easy I send city employees to help my retired residents and they always vote for me. His brother was the sheriff and he said if you get a ticket on that speed trap highway 7 let me know and my brother will fix it. Sure enough he did
I am going to put on a covered porch, I would like at least 6’ deep by 10’ wide (width of building). And either steps or a ramp. Maybe both?

I already informed Mrs that she will be tasked with paneling the interior. I will be insulating walls and roof, and cutting the lumber on the mill - she will learn how to cut with a handsaw and mark with a speed square 😁

What could possibly go wrong????

this company makes a number of receiver hitch bumpers that might help on the rv

headed down to hardware store when they open at 8 to get some small stainless screws to install
supplementary LED turn signals on rv.

During the 50's and 60's here my father would drive down to the town's only hardware store, every Sat morning, corner of Main and Bridge Streets, and
buy something, anything, pack of cheap cigars, just to say hi and keep touch with old friends and neighbors there, owners lived down from our farm. Then off he would go to the drug store across the street, where he would go through the same routine with the store owner there. Every Saturday morning without fail. Hardware store always had a Burpee seed assortment. Always something to plant.
Our local Ace hardware store sold out to a New England chain.

Chris, you'd better get some XL sized dog bones when you go visit.
I used to spend my lunch hour at the local auto parts store at least twice a week

Good morning, the lower temp was 61 and we are going to see 75°F. Quite a bit cooler than the past two days. Wind ENE 10 to 20 mph. partly cloudy sky.

BEF, that wreck looks nasty. How is the driver?

Today is sorting and bag packing day. Back to the yard tomorrow morning about 4 A.M. It takes me about 3.5 to 4 hours to get there, then locate the tractor and check it out all this done BEFORE I load my stuff into it. By noon I should have all my stuff AND the stuff the yard orders for me sorted out. (There are cleaning supplies for removing tar + a complete filter change for the tractor and at least a half a dozen 3" and 4" cam lock gaskets.) The company insists on an oil and filter change every ten thousand kilometres. I do about 50,000 kilometres in the 4 months I am 'out'. They get one oil and filter change in the 50 thousand. We are too busy to tie up a tractor and a set of trains over oil changes. (There are only the two of us that go northwest). We do stay on top of repairs. The synthetic oil we use is good for about 30,000 kilometres, so if I get it done by 25 thousand I don't think the Cummins ISX 15 [it is the performance 15 that I run] 550 hp will object. The first work order the truck gets when I get back to the yard is: overdue for service.

When I talked to the foreman at the end of April he had only 4 million Litres (1,028,251 US gallons) to spray, so that means I have 2 million Litres to haul at 42,000 Litres (11,111 US gallons) / load.
He is talking about working at a slower rate and taking all the weekends off. That doesn't mean the tanker drivers get the weekends off, we still have to go and get the oil and bring it back to him. I am not complaining, I am there for the money and money is what I make. 40 grand taxable income in 4 months + per diem is nothing to sneeze at. It is an excellent living for a single truck driver.
My gig is NOT a married guys game, you want to be home every weekend? Get another job, 'cause this job is not for you.
My stepson looks after this place and for insurance purposes is a live body in the house. He also pays whatever cash bills need paying while I am gone out of the joint account I've set up.
I have 7 dead trees that need to come down this summer (they are threatening the house), Junior will set that up and email me the quote, I will say yay or nay and tell him when the cash is in the account. The good thing is that the feller only has to drop them and leave them in the bush.

I will try and get on here at some point.

Have a safe summer all
Stay safe, stay shiny side up!

👍

Good Morning All,
Cloudy and much cooler today, 55 now but may warm slightly ! That heat was unbelievable yesterday, tough to work in that heat !

Looking4new, good luck with those trees, not worth damaging the house, I am ok with taking them down along the hedgerow, felling into field but nothing that could damage the house if I miscalculate !

Mostly_gas, hope your wife is feeling better !

Today Im hoping to do some work on the brake job on my 1930 Ford Model A, along with some other chores that need to be done !
Do you rivet your own a s b e s t o s to the shoes?

Good morning! Low of 41°, heading towards 76°. Slight chances (20%) of a t-storm late this afternoon. Chances go up to 40% tomorrow. About the same chances every day next week. I hope some rain happens......

LFN, have a safe work journey, keep the rubber side down, no dancing with moose..... or deer,....or elk! Sounds like you might have an easier haul season.

Kilroy, nice shed! Nice area for it! How is Harry doing? Did he learn anything?

RNG, hope you can find your gem in that list. Sorry about no rain in the forecast..... but that's a good thing right? Being that there aren't any roof tiles left....,

Speaking about weed wacking.... need to get the trimmer out for a walk again.... those weeds sure do prosper with just a few drops of rain..... I am amazed at how little they need.

Today's agenda: get the soil amendments turned into the planter and get the strawberries transplanted. They are really crowded and root bound in 2 large 25gal containers. They have been in there for at least 6 years, so I think they will get some relief with more space.

The only other pressing task is to get the 3 new planters hooked up to the drip system.
Should be able to get everything accomplished.

Everyone have a great day!
Harry is doing well, he is not a freakin’ Tasmanian Devil anymore (biut he is still a puppy). we do daily training with him, and I am now starting with “STAY”, which is quite a challenge, but I have him staying on place for up to fifteen seconds now, whereas just a couple days ago it was impossible to get past three.

KJC, that is a lot of eggs! Do you eat them all?
I do sell some to certain people I know, but we eat most of them. and by “we” I mean Me, Mrs., Mom, the dogs, and chickens get leftovers — and sometimes I will hardboil some excess and mash it with the potato masher and feed it back to the chickens, shells and all.

partially successful morning
stocked up on ss screws and bird feed but no joy on multi conductor wire of type I needed so I ordered it
on Amazon.

then home to go back and forth with reservations at rv campground in Millsboro DE I am going to next Wed and Thursday.
she was able to get me a pull thru site, for a mere doubling of the daily rate. Which thankfully was not terrible. Actually the rate tripled
over my reservation, and she dropped the daily rate 40 bucks a day for me. Very nice lady, after I schmoozed about me being a single senior.
they are making plenty of money on me for 110 a night. High season summer rate near the water. My original site was 49.
Nice upsell lady..................
I got site 203, she told me stay away from beach due to noise, so happy to do that. Short trip with golf cart to private beach anyway.
It's not the ocean, it's a piddly little bay but it's water
and with the pull thru I can haul my trailer and golf cart down there.
Site is easy to get to. Pull in, pull out.
This time I hope without perforating my rv again. If I never back up that trailer, that's just fine.
that's why they make pull thrus. when I get home I disconnect and bring my JD lawn tractor around with that nifty front ball hitch
Popgadget welded on so I don't herniate myself pulling it around.

nice campground desk lady said she would have campground staff help me back in.
no....the fiberglass isn't even proverbially dry.
but do you have a pull thru instead?
and off we went.
backing in without trailer is fine, but even with new hitch extension, backing is a problem with trailer because I can't see the sides of the trailer in
my side mirrors. Big opaque box behind me.
I think that electronic license frame with the distance beepers and a better camera might be a good idea for me. 350 bucks.
would have saved that first tail light lens, would have gone off and I would have stopped immediately.
before the crunch. If trailer plugged in, beeper has to be dis connectable.

is there an easy way...something built in that I don't need an app for...to circle the rv site below in say red magic marker
to present online? Or do I have to export it all to some paint program?

Drew what about putting a couple Bicycle whips with the orange flags on your trailer to help see it?

/ Good morning!!!! #171,252
one or the other I think
bumper only when not pulling trailer

I'm on a pc all the time, Windows 10

Doesn’t sound too effective regarding trailer damage
I’m willing to bet Paul could weld a 2nd receiver over or under your hitch receiver so you can mount both.

Pretty much forgotten PC / Windows stuff and no motivation to relearn. Was pretty good back in early 90’s.

Thanks guys, I will do the best I can with what I am given to drive.

Dispatcher wanted me to go to Englehart for Tuesday morning. Then he found out I couldn't get into that particular plant to get the oil.
I've got Monday and possibly Tuesday all tied up anyway doing stuff down there for me and maybe a little bit for the company. Timex is right around the corner from the yard and I need a new band on my watch.

Not much need for mowing here. The lawn at the farm has turned brown. I may do some spot mowing next week. The front lawn at the the house has stopped growing the back lawn may need a trim next week. So with time on my hands I decided to haul some logs up to my neighbor. My wife said there was a 50 percent chance of a shower. I figured if I was out on the tractor it had to increase the chance of rain. No such luck. Not a drop at the farm. A few sprinkles at the house. I moved 2 trailers of logs. I was feeling pretty pounded by the end. Pretty sad. 3 hours in the heat and I was done.

Our niece just got a puppy. Saint bernard newfoundland mix. May get up to 170 lbs. She is single and works full time. What was she thinking?

Hope you are all enjoying sunny days.

Chris
The dog will need socialization skills with people and more importantly other dogs. Our last Saint Bernard rescue was 180# and animal aggressive because he was never socialized with other dogs. He was great with people and quickly/instantly realized "little people" were still people. He lived a full life with us under either tether and/or leash.

The dog will need daycare with other dogs to fill in the "empty days" home alone. As to energy needs- they are speed bumps. Our S.B.'s always knew where to lay down to most effectively obstruct "activities."

He broke out once through our slider screen going after a bear. All's well that ends well...... That bear kicked into 35mph in a heartbeat. He had a good life with us. He got bone cancer...... He was pain managed and had quality of life until the end. He died in my arms at the Vets. He was a PITA, but a great dog. I miss him and all the 11 other members of the pack waiting at the "Rainbow Bridge."

A dank and drizzly day around here. A good day for the dump run, domestic chores, and focusing on a dried beans/hot sausage concoction during which I stir fry a variety of peppers and add to the mix as part of the process.

Seems they all leave a unique hole in our heart that never fills.

Mine will resemble Swiss cheese when I pass.
