Kilroy try 21A pug mill stone comes with water and quarry dust makes a nice solid surface
I went with 57 for 2 reasons: the area is mainly going to be for a hangout area, not vehicular use, and also it matches the stone already on the road. Otherwise I would have used crusher run instead.

I’m thinking that 9 inch paint roller is gonna seem awesome compared to the pw nozzle.

Wife just said I need to put steaks on the grill. What??? Someone forgot to tell me that was the plan, it’s getting ready to storm and rain is starting. Plan B is soup and tater tots.

Big consignment equipment auction down the road. Lots of ZT, few tractors, good bit of skidsteers. Didn’t stop, but I see some of the stuff being trucked out past the house.

Work day at church this morning. Cleaning out our 102 ft long storage barn. Barn came with property. Used to be owned by coop who stored fertilizer in a couple bays, they still stink even after we sealed the floor.
IMG_9357.JPG

Several years ago I installed new front and 5 of the 7 garage doors. Used to be massive track doors, 1 per bay. About 7 years ago someone needed an urgent place to store their grandmothers stuff, and they abandoned it there. We got dumpster, the family who put it there filled the dumpster and kept what they wanted.
We had 3 identical broken pop up awnings, I used one to fix 2, so now only 1 broken. Took me about 5 minutes, they were going to toss them all. Just broken piece of the scissor arms that spread apart. I kept 1 broken for more spares.
Getting cool sitting on porch with it raining, but snagglepuss is curled up on me.

Started out kinda dreary today and now it's beautiful out. Around 65 degrees.

Wife and daughter are at property. Kid has a friend with her. I'm doing things around the house.

It never got to the predicted high temperature, but 59ºF works for me.. The rain started ~ HH and 0.67" of needed rain recorded so far. A wet bird on a rainy day

Done for the day, arms and shoulders need recovery from overhead. Time for energy conservation and maybe a fresh draft porter.

Frits, thanks. Minimum overhang is 3 ft at non gable ends. Gable ends are either walkways or lanai, 6 ft in rear, 10 in front.
House is what I call the 4 boxes.
1 box - master suite which also has master bath, walk in closest, bedroom area, my office, and the pet rm/exercise area.
Main box is 1 large room with kitchen, dining area, living rm area.
Suite box is divided into 2 equal, mirror image suites with completes baths with roll in showers and mini kitchen area.
The garage box contains my shop at one end, bathroom, pantry, laundry at kitchen end.

Boxes are only connected by common floor and overlapping roofs.

Sophie and I designed the house while she was still recovering from her accident. 5 or 6th design and we didn’t even have land yet. Realtor was amazed when after the contract was accepted I pulled out drawing and told her this was what we would be building.

IMG_0656.JPG

Not totally handicap designed (sinks and stove), but very handicap accessible.

Many here in GM also know that we actually built the house. Did hire out the concrete and initial solar and county did require licensed contractors for electrical and plumbing. Otherwise I just hired unskilled laborers. Unskilled because we built using non traditional materials and workers skilled in the materials weren’t available. Being all younger I told them they just had to keep up with me.

Just about time last slab was poured Sophie was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and construction started right after surgery. She barely missed a day even during radiation and chemo except for the in hospital radiation. What an inspiration.

Still very happy with the design and execution.

A chilly 56F and partly cloudy @ 20:30, heading down to 48F overnight. Woman even turned on the heat already ...

Mealworm feeder refilled with 20 worms, then hopper and two tube feeders refilled. Also hung out the nyjer feeder (swapped it out with one of the suet feeders)

Did not get any trimming done on that Japanese Yew but I did get the core aerator run over the entire yard - north, south, east, and west. The moisture level was perfect: good penetration and cores ... but not so wet that it was muddy ... (y)

Woman got a bunch more weeding done back in the garden.

Plan is to hit all the unplanted areas tomorrow with Roundup, then give it a couple days and then till whatever is left under before putting down the landscape fabric. Probably add more screened compost as I'm doing that.

Need to go close up the garage, will probably spend the evening out there first getting the rest of the strawberries potted, then plant some bell pepper seeds, followed by general cleaning and straightening up.

Black locusts here just now blooming:

IMG_2614 copy.jpg

Probably a dozen saplings there and more on the other side of that little wooded area. Would like to get those transplanted too, although I'm not sure whether they would survive the process.

Hope everyone had a great Saturday ... (y)

GM evening update:

finished digging out the walnut stump I started on a couple last week - I had to dig down almost 6’ all around, and there were numerous heavy roots:
IMG_0083.jpeg

Burned almost a quarter tank getting it out!
IMG_0084.jpeg

The root laying to the left in the above photo continues past the length of the excavator track!

there are still more trees to drop and stumps to pull but the area is opening up!

Happy Victoria Day to all the Canucks here.
It pissed down rain all day. Good news though is tomorrow will be dry. 15% chance of rain. I have some stumps at the neighbours to attack tomorrow and Monday.

Kilroy, that is one nasty looking stump.

Bed time, goodnight all

It was a 2001 SR5...was totaled in 2016. Still miss it.
Our current 2021 is actually the second one my wife had. In 2003, when they modified the body, we bought a limited, and man did it have cool stuff on it. Unfortunately, we were too stupid to hang onto it for that long and sold it and then bought a 2010 Honda Pilot. The Pilot was a great vehicle and had seating for 8, and we drove it for 10 years (and sold it to a family with 6 kids), but the wife still longed for her 4runner. So…

Good evening all. 56ºF for the start mostly clear sky, Breezy. Moderate wind wind brisk sustained gusts, sky became partly cloudy, and high temp was 74ºF. Bike ride to start day, stopped in on garage sale and could not resist buying it, $40 and runs good. Needs new air filter, oil change, and blade sharpened. Also found full set Husky metric allen wrenches. Because of the sustained wind gusts did not no leave the lake. 60 miles. Took truck back to get mower, ate lunch and napped.    / Good morning!!!! #170,459
Good (Sunday) arvo. Overnight Low was 7C and it's presently 14.2C (wind chill makes it 10C), it's clear sunny and we're under a gale warning which should dissipate by this evening.

I'm back from Church and the rest of the day is His... plus it took me 2.5hrs to read all of yesterday's GM posts. :)

The Endurance Race went fine, although it was a looooong day. I got there at 0700 (just going sunrise and 1C) and took up my position at one end of a blind curve (the "Mad Agisting Horse Woman" was at the other end. Radio contact) prior to the first group (80km) starting at 0730. Our job was to warn drivers that there were horses in the 'curve'. The second group (40km) started at 0800.

There were, of course, many other people who volunteered (or were volunteered by their 'horsey' spouses) to help run the event. The "Mad Agisting Horse Woman's" daughter manned one of the checkpoints and the "Mad Horse Woman" operated the Canteen.

The short story is that the last rider to complete the 80km came in after 1700! After sunset. Still, it was a good day and weather-wise you couldn't have asked for a better Autumn day. At the end I received a bottle of Tasmanian Pinot Noir in thanks.

<snert> And I get to volunteer for another Endurance Race in a fortnight at Pyengana.:D Hey, it's all about 'putting back into the community', eh? And they're all good neighbours.

That's about it, take care all.

Poured cup of fresh brewed coffee. 44° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 76° with mostly sunny skies. Busy day yesterday. Got shrubs pulled for neighbor. While there moved several piles of limbs to burn pile with tractor grapple. They had a real nigh metal bird house that had it bottom rusted out. cut some Lexan to fit bottom of bird house. Then use L brackets to hold lexan on and mount to pole. At home I replace a Ring Camera that had flood light had died. Then Installed one on pole barn that had been on the shelf for months.
Today will do some retainer wall repairs that I ran snow plow into last winter.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.
