Happy Victoria Day to all the Canucks here.
It pissed down rain all day. Good news though is tomorrow will be dry. 15% chance of rain. I have some stumps at the neighbours to attack tomorrow and Monday.

Kilroy, that is one nasty looking stump.

Bed time, goodnight all
There is a bigger Diameter double-trunk pine stump I will be pulling, which I am hoping is easier because it is a) pine and b) I left it a little taller, so o can get more leverage. There is an even thicker poplar that I may try pulling/punching over, so that it (hopefully) uproots.

on the plus side, starting about 3’- 4‘ down there is a good bed of clay, and I will be extracting some of that so that I can make a beehive oven and a tandoor at the house - two projects that I have been itching to do for several years now, but the materials have gotten so expensive!!!!

Good evening all. 56ºF for the start mostly clear sky, Breezy. Moderate wind wind brisk sustained gusts, sky became partly cloudy, and high temp was 74ºF. Bike ride to start day, stopped in on garage sale and could not resist buying it, $40 and runs good. Needs new air filter, oil change, and blade sharpened. Also found full set Husky metric allen wrenches. Because of the sustained wind gusts did not no leave the lake. 60 miles. Took truck back to get mower, ate lunch and napped. Did not get a chance to go over mower yet.

nice garage sale score! I have this old Murray mower that came with the house, the engine refuses to die no matter how we abuse it, but the deck has literally rotted away. I am going to try to bend up some 1/16x2 steel and make a new skirt, because the back wheels are splayed flat on the ground.

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly…).

61.9F going to mid 70s, supposedly sunny all day.

Went to see Jay Allen show last night. Excellent show, very poorly attended. I figure that since Marina McBride performed the night before (and the tickets were quite pricey) people opted for only one show. Plus, it was the final night of the Rodeo, so there was that competition too, although the weather did not really help the rodeo — rain started about 6-ish, and downpours from 7:30 to 9, and the rodeo started at 8…

Relatives in town for a few days, so we will be running around with them, I don’t expect to get much done up the mountain for the west several days, other than beinging Bailey up for her walks.

time to get started on the day — coffee is calling.

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

60 and wet after a nice rain last night. Going to 78.

Mostly, nice find on that mower.

Sodamo, great story on your house build and Sophie.

Kil, with that mini you are king of the mountain.

We worked all day outdoors...mowed the yard, used the grapple to move some brush, then pitchforked all 3 yards of mulch on top of landscape fabric we put down, and moved a ton of rocks with the wheelbarrow. Hitting the sack felt good.

well I found out what was digging up the stumps in the front yard.
too bad I couldn't get a picture, scared him away when I tried,
but a seriously large red headed woodpecker was mining away yesterday.
Beautiful bird, looked powerful, and I have provided a food source.
That woodpecker is just going to do what woodpeckers do.

I'm off to get more grub control this morning plus a little grocery shopping.
I'm also going to get a hanging suet cake and put it out front to try to give the birds something else to eat.
ordered a case of ten on Amazon and several feeders.

these suet cakes are where the old cows go....really.
is it vegan?
no ma'am
It's a deelicious easy to eat blend of rib sticking energy.
Much better than that stump bird.
pay attention, eat the suet

if you can't fight them, feed them
Full size rabbit in my yard yesterday.
At least not in the garden.

And then a large brown and black cat came in and sat on the bench
right next to the bird feeding area.
Scoot!
I am ignored.
maybe I should be like RS and feed them far away.
last time I put up a suet cake a bear in NC ripped it down.
I do not not not want to attract bears.

and I'm thinking, I'm thinking I'm back...
time to get a bb gun with a scope again.
Two pumps in the rump is a fine message sent.

I don't want to hurt the animal.
what should I feed a rabbit in the rear of my property?
what is a cheap feed? Is there a small critter pellet food?
simple is good. Like corn. Lots of critters like corn.
now what can you put out that would attract a rabbit but not a deer?
Not many deer here after the big cull.
but since folks in municipal building right down the road
paid a lot of bounty out to shoot all those deer, I believe they would take a
dim view of intentional deer feeding.

I've tried putting old lettuce out before on a stump top in back yard.
not much interest
it's like that little rabbit came over and saw me feeding the birds from multiple feeders and on the ground
and he asked what do you have for me?

food or a bb. I'll try food first.

going to pick up the five or ten pound economy bag of carrots. Worst case, I'll be making carrot muffins
for a while.

bb's are for critters that get inside the veggie garden.
after they have eaten two eggplants to the ground.
electric fence now off, tomatoes have grown into it, as intended.

too bad the rabbits can't learn to behave like little weed eaters.
go nibble around all the edges, eat all you want but only the edges.
better than cordless.
smaller than sheep.

sorry this was too long

50F steady 10mph wind partly cloudy 70F for high.
Mother nature wash pollen from the leaves and buds over night puddles are yellowish.

Outside chores done E muffin time.

Plans for today...couple stops in town for this and that, finish planting veggie plants and seeds, darn good chance of helping Mrs. plant her investment. 😖 than see what rest of the day offers.

Enjoy day all.

Oh yeah - forgot this little story:

while I was engrossed in the extraction, Mrs2@# over my the gate, watching progress, when the neighbor stopped by, so we finally got to meet him.

his comment to her was, “He ain’t partickly good at that, is he?”

to which Mrs replied:

”Well it is only his fifth day on an excavator…”

and he said “Well he is going pretty good for only five days!”

he was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years…

Found out that dozer is a Case diesel with the same engine as our tractor, and has the six-way blade, and he said he parked it when the “engine was locking up” whatever that means.

I will find out more in the future…

Dennis- It amazes me how much “good stuff” people throw away. I am happy to read about your salvaged treasures.

Joel- Thanks for sharing the picture of your property and family.

David- Thanks for sharing the history of your and Sophie's beautiful property.

Bruce- Nice score.

Kilroy- I really enjoy reading about your project and seeing the pictures of your progress.

RonJ- Nice picture of Mr. & Mrs. dining together. Thanks for sharing it. That "pairing" is going on around here as well with the Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, and Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks around here; probably the pairing is going on with the Jays and Mourning Doves as well

Yesterday's/last evening's rain event dropped 1.08" of rain. The high level haze and clouds have been clearing since sunrise with 47ºF as this morning's low temperature. It has been breezy too with 17mph gusts recorded. The current temperature is 52ºF with a mix of clouds and varying degrees of filtered sunshine. I expect the wind to continue with clearing skies and an afternoon high temperature in the upper 60ºF's.

This morning I received an e-mail from the energy collaborative regarding our solar power production and being back in their system. I do not think that I'll be seeing any more electric bills until the next time the power company starts messing with the line voltage.

No real plans for today except enjoying this beautiful day, hopefully capture a couple of pictures of some additional returning birds just seen yesterday, and stir frying up some shrimp with assorted peppers in a garlic-ginger sauce for tonight's dinner.

This "work"week I will get serious about getting the garden going.

Good morning, the low temp is 47 and the high going to 62°F. Wind N 10 to 15 mph. 3% chance of rain.

Being as it IS Sunday, I wont fire up the tractor until 11A.M. ( noise laws), the noise laws don't apply for snow removal but they do apply for stump removal.
I think I will take my electronic bug killer with me, just in case I wake them up. (Thermacell)

Drew, a 12 gauge loaded with rock salt works good.

One mans' trash is another mans' treasure.

Time to check my lottery tickets and see what I didn't win.

Have a safe day all

Good morning, 49 going to 77 today nice weather no rain

Finished mowing the tree shelter areas yesterday and was too beat after that to do much else. Wife wanted to get lobsters on sale so went to town to get that. The picture shows a small area mowed yesterday. It takes time to mow around the shelters and chew up 2 ft long grass without leaving a lot of grass piles around but all the tree shelter areas are now mowed

Drew perhaps you should tell stories to children at the library well written and entertaining to boot.

Kilroy cool story: State Police officer getting close to quitting time speeding car goes by and he sets off chase. He really doesn’t want to do this as it’s 15 minutes till quitting time, so he says to himself if this guy has a good story he will let him go. Pulls over car tells driver he would like to see his driver permit and registration and why were you going so fast. Driver looks at officer and says my wife left me for a state trooper and I thought you were trying to bring her back. Trooper hands license. back and goes home
