Drinking first cup of coffee. 38° with fog this morning. Heading to 41° with chance of get some clear skies in late afternoon. Ended up changing RO and water filters yesterday. Cleaning shop is still on to do list. Hope to get a haircut today. Need to keep an eye out for clear enough sky to get a picture of full moon. Should be visible from 4:30 pm today to 7:30am Thursday.

Kyle, prayers for your Mom and kids.

Scaredy, being stable enough to operate a chainsaw can be a problem for lots of people. Neighbor lady wanted to try my electric chainsaw. After watching her do a couple of cuts. Decided that she would be better off using the pole saw. Kept her 3' away from the chain.

Everyone one stay safe and well.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
surprisingly warm 52 out now, high of 58 in clouds

Ron, good idea about distance to saw blade.

not much planned today. Will be too wet to do much outside, but might find a home for the second inflatable outside.
Tired of the fan noise inside...

I need to change my water filters today also. Just keep forgetting...

47 outside this AM, heading to 60 today.

May venture into the woods today and cut up some more downed trees.

Mostly, the deer are car victims, except the one was skinned. We have had drop offs before. Some people have no respect.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

December 7th, take a moment to remember.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is observed annually in the United States on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941.

thanks for reminder Rip.
Never an upbeat thought, other than triumph over evil.
My sister's birthday is day JFK got shot.
Some days carry memories we wish never happened.

Both my Father and Uncle were in Pacific in WWII.
Good thing he came back or I wouldn't be here.
Now the Japanese are our friends.
People get along, governments don't.

Prayers for the remaining families who had parents and grandparents on those ships in Oahu.
I have family living on that island now.

wonder how goopy these filters are. Likely will improve my water pressure.
that discovery will be the excitement of my day.
Need to take heavy calcite filter out and shake it to make sure enough rock still in there.
I have a spare, remarkably heavy things. The odor and sediment filters go into the land fill unfortunately.

I wonder if there is an animal that would eat them. A goat? Plastic bits probably not good for the goat.

Good morning, low temp 32 and a high of 34°F. Wind calm. 40% chance of flurries. Winter is here. Today is the last day above freezing for a week.

I am going to trouble shoot the reasons why I couldn't hook up the V plow the other day. IF I can get it on today, then it will probably stay on all winter, at least until I have to move piles.

I am seriously thinking about a hydraulic thumb for the backhoe. I only have one pair of remotes coming off the tractor, but I think I can plumb the thumb off the down side of the landing gear from either side. A three way valve off the pressure side of the right landing gear (stabilizer) should do the trick for closing the thumb and to open it to the return line on the same stabilizer. I have a mechanical thumb now. Does anybody know if this will work or not?

david, Nice pics of your volcano. I am about as close to a volcano now as I EVER want to be now.

Although I wasn't here at the time, I will never forget Pearl Harbour.
We must thank the **** for joining up with ******, though. It got the U.S. of A. into the war and with their help both got defeated.

Have a safe day all

Woke up, was having a dream I had filled a plastic tote with diesel fuel, put it on one of those hitch racks you see behind vehicles, I was backing up, it fell off, and I lost half the diesel in it. Weird, I don’t do any of those things. I wonder if the EPA will fine me for spilling diesel fuel in a dream.

Anyway, woke for bathroom trip, can’t get back to sleep. Yesterday I was half way to work at this time.

Pearl Harbor day. Visited it once. Got a friend stationed there now.

Good morning! 70˚F the air is still. Partly cloudy heading to the mid 70s.

Shopping is on the agenda today, need to pick some up some gifts.

Monday we had the WFPB Christmas party. 28 people came. There were a lot of good appetizers. and deserts. We made mini lentil balls with date BBQ sauce and my famous kale chips that dehydrates kale into a yummy crunchy taco flavored snack.

Got the tractor work done in the garden, felt good to work a FEL on the tractor again. I stacked up all the piles of sand, gravel and manure and smashed down the compost dumpsters after picking up the weed containers in the herb garden.

We also visited the USS Arizona Memorial in Pear Harbor about 20 years ago. It was eerie to see bubbles still coming up from the sunken ship. When we got back to the rental car it had been broken into. Signs warning of theft in the parking-lot were numerous so nothing was left in the car.

Don, I saw those bubbles too. Wonder how many years/centuries of air is under there?

Good Morning
53 and won’t top 55 today. Foggy and grey with intermittent drizzle. Clearing some this afternoon.

Yesterday’s trip was in the clouds the whole time, with low ceilings and visibility, but above the minimum requirements. Fingerprinting was a huge bust. Our appointment got pushed back twice, so sat around for 4 hours to jump through the ID hoops, only to have their scanner not work, and they no longer have the ability to do them the old fashioned way with an ink pad. So I’ll have to go back another time. The site is only ten minutes from the airport, but at least an hour from home, so I really don’t want to make a trip just for fingerprints. That pretty much killed the day, warmed up leftovers for dinner, and watched “puppy culture” DVD’s required by the dog breeder.

Today will start with breakfast with the professor, then some shop time. Looks like Fed Ex delivered my filters from Messick’s, but they are for stock, except the HST which I hope to change today.

The time to pick up our puppy has slipped until Monday the 26th, as our daughter is moving and elected us to watch her dogs while that happens. The breeder said that it would be better to bring the puppy home to a quieter house without the other dogs. So We will have to wait another week.

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 5:00AM.
Sunny. High near 55F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph.

Got something of a late start yesterday (watched too many Prius videos), and just as I was about to get started chopping on a dead tree, the contractor buddy said he's on his way with the roller. I was a little worried he only had one ramp to get it off the trailer, but he somehow managed without tipping the thing over. More balls than brains, that one. I used it the rest of the afternoon and got the driveway and most of the decomposed granite and gravel around the house rolled flat, too. Had one hitch when I shut the engine off and then couldn't get it started, but kept fidding with the controls until it lit off again. Still don't know what I did, so at the end of the day I parked it where it could be winched back onto the trailer if that became necessary. Only real problem was getting stuck for a little bit on a steeper section of gravel.
rollerStuck.jpg

The more I tried to get up the hill, the slipprier it got, but I eventually worked my way over to where it wasn't as steep and got the heck out of there. Not not a very good idea to try the roller on the hill out back. It would make it down OK, but then be stuck there. The machine was pretty interesting. It used a single cylinder Diesel engine that was loud as all get out. Vibrated really bad at low RPM, but smoothed out a bit when reved to operating speed. The steering was articulated, meaning there is a hinge in the middle of the chassis so the whole front of the machine steers, not just the front wheel. It was like nothing I've operated before, and almost impossible to steer in a straight line. Kinda like riding a dirt bike, in that you get happy just getting the thing to go in approximately the right direction. After four hours of vibration, I was more than happy to get off. Still have a little to do, but with four days of rain on the way, I get to keep it for a while and give the driveway another round of compaction after it gets a little wetter.

A pork chop on the BBQ and a little TV finished off the day. Gonna try and get that tree taken down and get a burn pile going this morning, then keep it fed the rest of the day.

Happy hump day, folks!

Rolling up hill is best backwards on roller. If stone is wet drum will pick up chunks of stone with it leaving divots

Good morning! 50 and foggy….likely the outlook for the entire day.

@Looking4new - Surplus Center sells an electric diverted valve to do what you want. Tap into the lines to the outrigger cylinder, use the normal ports for the outrigger. Use the activated ports for the thumb plumbing. You need a switch to activate the diverter valve when you want to use the thumb.

Not sure what today will bring, but will find something to do.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Good morning to all! Low of 26°, going up to 44°. Mostly cloudy now, supposed to be sunny? Chances of showers / snow tomorrow and Friday, we'll see......

Helogabals, please keep all that white stuff over on that side of the pond..... nice view though....

RNG, that act looked like some fun! Don't know anyone with a roller.... wish I did. I just have to get by with just running the tractor back and forth a thousand times.....
I still have to order the gravel for here.... I have to stop drooling first....

LFN, I saw somewhere there is a foot activated switch that works a diverter valve to control a thumb..... gets plumbed into the boom or bucket control, similar to how a third function works. Can't remember who made it....

Ken, sorry to here you got sick.... take it easy and get better soon!

Drew, you reminded me of a time when I was replacing a filter at the 'old' house..... I forgot to turn the water off, started unscrewing the filter housing, and FOOOM !! 😲 Blew that filter right off, cracked the housing when it slammed the floor. I was soaked instantly! Learned a lesson real quick!

Paul, sorry you couldn't get the FP's done. I used to have to get mine done every 4 years, never had a problem over the years, aside from having to go to the big city to get them done.
Sorry about having to wait another week for the puppy.

Dennis, strange dream for sure.... watch out for some guys in black suits....
Sorry about the bad nights sleep.... BTDT many times.....
Maybe a nap? Hope you get to tell your boss the big news today.

Didn't get to Costco yesterday, so that's on the agenda today. After school gets out, I'll take the 2 GS's to the store so they can pick out B-day cards for their father.
Didn't get out to the shop either..... still need to weld those edge-tamers together..... before the snow gets here....

Everyone have a great day!
