I am going to a different Costco than Popgadget. But I think they are all pretty close to same layout inside.

As part of relocating, I've been inside several Costco stores in California and Oregon, and all of them were different sizes, and the layouts were different inside, too. I learned that I prefer the smaller stores, as there is less distance to cover and fewer places for Costco staff to hide the things that are my regular purchases.

The two Menard's stores I can go to (45 minutes - in opposite directions) have their store layouts exactly flip flopped. I walk into the store and have to think about which on I'm in and where the particular thingy is...

An inch or so of snow here overnight (still snowing lightly). Looks like the outdoor project season is over.

Costco routinely shuffles stuff around, even where they keep stuff in cold storage.
I stopped at one once in NJ and couldn’t even find their gas station.

There is talk about the right time to put up Christmas lights. Now is too early for me but there are some in the neighborhood who have them up.

When I lived in town, I would usually put them up on one of the "last warm days", but always waited until after Thanksgiving to flip them on. Out here in "the sticks" now, I don't bother anymore.

So I have this OBD reader and another friend has a high mileage diesel jeep with a bunch of issues.
He seemed hesitant to plug it in.
All cars have the OBD plug under the dash I thought.
Assuming it's read only, can you hurt or reset anything by plugging a reader into the car's port?
I would think not but before I do something I regret...

Even if it only produces a numeric fault code, is is reasonable to assume if one Googles that code with brand of car
something will pop up online? free?...

Just my personal experience, but I've used two different OBD readers, and as long as I just "read" codes, I haven't managed to do any damage. One of the readers was more advanced, and was able to run different tests that could produce harmful results if the user wasn't familiar with the procedure. I gave those tests a wide berth.

The main thing to be aware of is that when the reader clears the fault codes, it also clears the fuel map compensation settings, so the car's computer goes back in to learn mode until the maps are rebuilt. I haven't seen any negative impact to doing that, though.

By themselves, the fault codes aren't that meaningful. But as you suggested, a Google search with the fault code and the year and make of the vehicle will turn up a fair amount of useful information. But it's best to take some of that online advise with a very large grain of salt, and stick to answers that are repeated by several sources.

one little job led to another, really didn't want to come in, got all the freezables out of garage, then went and cleaned out flower gardens, trimmed back the blackberry bushes, and took a load to the woods. Fresh air felt good.
Resting for minute, then headed to basement to change my water filters. Thank you all for the reminders. Last time I waited too long and they were a slimy mess. Calcite one should still be ok, but will change other two.

35.8F and cloudy @ 11:30, radar showing some snow in the vicinity. Calling for a high of around 41F for the day. This morning's low was 30F.

Got trash and recyclables taken up to the road last night. House next to where we leave the cans is vacant and up for sale. Apparently the lawn care company they use thought that our cans went to that house and they snagged them and took them over to their driveway so we had to collect them and move them back.

Rental company was a no-show to pick up scissors lift so Woman dropped me off on the way back and I moved it back down to the house. Will just go ahead and leave it down here until they show up or I hear something from them (guy never called back yesterday)

Got the wall anchors put in for one piece of the track lighting (there are 3 pieces total), also got two pieces connected together. Had trouble with the connector, one piece didn't want to slide on. Not sure what was up with that, nothing readily apparent.

Fell asleep on couch last evening after dinner, woke up for a while, ended up getting tired and fell asleep again and slept like a baby the rest of the night. Other than the fact that I had the Ruger LCP in my right front pocket and it was pressing into my right hip all night long. Was a little painful when I woke up this morning.

Lots of activity out at the feeders this morning, suspect they'll be ready for a refill by this afternoon.

Agenda for today:

Get 3rd piece of track connect to the other two.

Finish up getting the anchors installed for the lighting track.

Cut out the hole for the electrical box and get the wires fed up through the wall and run through the box, get box installed in the wall.

See if I can sort out the wiring. It's controlled by two switches, one of which is a dimmer. Original lighting was fluorescent. The grow bulbs I have are not dimmable, so replacement switch would not need to dimmable per se, but being programmable where I could set it to come on and go off at certain times would be highly desirable.

Maybe at least get the wall washed down before I actually put up the track and connect the wiring. It really needs repainted but that's whole 'nuther can of worms.

Start patching the holes in the drywall from previous project when I ran the wiring for the siren for the alarm.

Undecided as to whether to MiG or braze them to the EMT.

Either way, if the zinc coating on the EMT isn't removed, there will be trouble. But you probably know all about that, right? That'll be the hardest part of the job, but GMAW might be the easiest.

The loss of a good friend is hard to take. Not many of us will pass doing what we love, though.
