Good morning!!!!

Good evening. Sad day today. FIL died this morning. He was 92, and it was not unexpected. Fortunately, he died with little or no pain, and he had already said that he was ready for it. His family members were around him when it happened, so we can take heart in the fact that he had a “good death“.

He lived independently right up until the time he had to go into the hospital a few days ago. That was also in line with his wishes. The last thing he wanted to do was to be stuck in some sort of complex care facility on all kinds of machines and what not, instead of his own private little one bedroom suite at the retirement residence.

Rest in peace, Ray.
Condolences for your family. Sounds like the kind of man that didn't want to be a burden to others. A quality that we should all aspire to. Rest in peace.

Good morning, the low temp is 55 and going to a high of 63°F. Wind ESE 11 mph. 30% chance of showers.

I still have the genny to fix, but almost everything else is done.
Wood in basement and furnace purring along nicely.
Mess from wood cleaned up and driveway regraded for winter. I have to take the rock bucket down the driveway and uproot the really big (3"+) rocks, then probably regrade again.
Snow tires on Dodge and ready for winter.
I was given 3 of 3 shelf shelving units, just had to put floors in them and have utilized them in the Dodge garage for holding the oils, grease and windshield washer juice for the Dodge, Z-turn, back hoe.
A little over 100 gallons of fuel in the tank, should hold me for a while. About $3,000.oo worth of credit with the supplier.

Sorry about your FIL, check. May he rest in peace.

Have a safe day all

Sorry for your loss Check.
Best thing I did was install the blower! The temps have jumped up into the 50's and 60's and the forecast shows warm weather for the distant future.
Things have been pretty much routine around here with yard work and normal living. That is till yesterday. We where out on our normal 3 mile walk when my wife stepped into a pothole by accident and twisted her ankle and fell straight to the ground. Trip to urgent care shows a broken bone with orthopedic surgeon consult tomorrow. She is in extreme pain with her shoulder, arm and side catching her fall. Looks like a long 6 to 8 weeks coming!
Good thing I'm doing ok. Doctor changed my blood pressure med and my finger pain disappeared in a few days! I have been complaining about this forever! If anyone is on Atenolol for blood pressure and has joint pain they should talk with their doctor. I feel so good I'm setting up and cleaning my wood shop. Want to start making things on my medium wood lathe again. Hopefully pain free in the hands for a while! Still have issues with my feet but I can manage with that.
Oh well! Off to perform slave duties (LOL)for the next couple of days as she is not allowed to move till we hear from the doc.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Phil, so sorry to hear your wife hurt her ankle. Sounds painful, hope it improves quickly.

thick wet fog out, am waiting for it to dry out, that may take awhile

Good Morning
It’s 61 and not really moving throughout the day. another foggy morning, clearing later today.

Yesterday went by pretty quickly, still cleaning up from the weekend’s festivities. The 5 gallon water heater in the shop is fine for washing hands, but when I do anything significant in the big concrete slop sink, I run out of hot water pretty quickly. Cleaning a dozen chafing dishes put me over the edge, I’m installing an 18kw tankless heater today. That will make over 2GPM of hot water continuously.

Still a few clean up tasks, but they are dwindling. Still have to return my buddy’s Sprinter, and have to consolidate a lot of trash and recycling and get it to the street tomorrow.
Have an eye doctor appt this am, after that, I’ll get to work.

Good morning
61 with 97% humidity. So warm it woke me up early.

Chicken waterer has a leak, 16 gallon tub leaked out in a couple days, so I pulled it out of the coop and will look for the leak to get that sorted out. Cleaning the garage so I can pull the truck in to deal with the seized caliber.

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 5:15AM.
A mix of clouds and sun. High 71F. SSE winds shifting to WNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Looks like chances for rain, both here and over on the coast, have been pushed back into the middle of next week. I'm not complaining, other than that we do need the rain as wildfire potential remains very high.

Sorry to hear all the bad news out there, and hope things straighten out soon.

I keep trying different things to get the walkie talkie working, but it's proving very good at not cooperating. Looking for a replacement of the whole comm system, and good to find out that tech support from one candidate consists of nincompoops. Better to find out now than after a big purchase.

Got a couple riding buddies showing up here tomorrow night for dinner and a sleep over, breaking up what would otherwise be a long trip for both. They'll have to toss a coin to see who ends up on the sofa.

Welcome aboard, new folks. Always room for one more...

Happy Hump Day, all!

Good morning. Surprisingly warm this morning 55 going to early 60's

Slept in a little longer than normal. Felt pretty good. Walked Cody and fed the cats. Still planning to deliver the bike to our daughter either today or tomorrow. Always hate the drive down through the beltway to Alexandria but the drive along the Parkway makes up for it being very scenic.
Trying to avoid having to get fill dirt delivered for the area where the firewood shed is going to go so I am targeting a sloped area on the property for the fill dirt. But first I am setting up some stakes and getting the laser level set up to see how much is really needed. There is a limit to how many trips with the tractor I would want to make. As an alternative I could rent a dump trailer that can hook up to the tractor perhaps.

Good morning! A chilling 39˚F after that strong cold front the other night, but not to worry about snow the wind has now shifted and is from the South with temps climbing to the mid 70s and clear skies.

Yesterday was one of those perfect tractor days, upper 60s, no dust, just a few people each trip, so strollers and round trips were welcomed. I even had to wear a jacket after sunset.
The only wind damage from the night before was a prop fence in the Wild West town was blown over, a port-a-can was blown over, two peach trees were downed and a few small limbs from the pecan trees were blown on the tractor trail.
They finally got all the boxed pumpkins out and displayed in the pumpkin patch and it is looking good for this the last weekend before Halloween of the Fall Festival. The Fall Festival will continue 2 weeks into November but at much shorter hours. The 9am to 10pm will cease.
On Black Friday the Christmas festival starts. The Pumpkin house transforms into a Gingerbread house and Santa and the real live Rain Deer visit on weekends. The thousands 1 and 2 year old planted and irrigated Cypress Christmas trees are only about 18" high and will not be ready to harvest until 2025.

62 going up to 68 and cloudy misty and wet.
Can't move leaf's, too wet out.

Took the dryer apart yesterday, found the front bearings are just plastic/teflon strips.
All worn out , new ones and their holder on order, about $150 :-( but still cheaper then $1000 for a new one.
Took more time to figure out how to get it apart since all the screws are hidden, then it did to break it down and put it together again.

Alien-sorry to hear about the bird, long lived ones like that become part of the family, sad.

Check - condolences for you FIL

The cemetery on our property is marked on the plat and has an easement access path to get to it. There were several grave markers 30 years ago but over the years vandals have destroyed them except this last one that have flaked off to where the inscription is no longer readable. Researching the records from the Frederick Post newspaper I was not able to find anything relating to the property in the time period of the 1800's. The county has researched the property and wrote up a nice summary of who had owned the farm starting with a German immigrant in 1802 taking out a deed for a homestead of 200 acres. It was interesting to see when buildings were added and the 3 families that owned the property until we bought it more than 30 years ago. The daughter of the last family that owned the property lives across the street on property that was split off from the farm. Martha has told us about life back in the days she lived on the farm.

Good morning! Low was 30°, headed up to near 60. That will change overnight, wind coming back and a good chance of snow / wintery mix tomorrow. The high tomorrow is forecasted to only hit 45°.

Ron, welcome back! And a beautiful pic to boot! Awaiting some Sassy pics now...

Doug, sorry to hear about the Bird/dog/daughter issues. The loss of a beloved pet is always hard. Hope Leslie is doing ok.

Check, condolences and prayers for you and family on your loss.

Phil, sorry about your wifey's injury. Hopefully the surgeon can get het fixed up good as new!

Kyle, you will never have enough time when you're teaching.... there's always more to show / tell the students!

Today's agenda will be to see if I have a board long enough for the shelf for the wifey.... didn't get to it yesterday. Then dig out some grow lights and set up a stand / holder for them. Wifey is starting some Honey Locust trees from seed. They will need the lights over the winter.

Need to change the oil in the car already.... seems like it was just done a few weeks ago..... I have the oil, just need to get a filter, so maybe a trip to the parts store this afternoon.

......and whatever else that gets thrown into the mix.

Hope everyone has a great day!

70°F and .15 inches rain.

Horse of a different color. Off to breakfast in Hilo this morning. Haven’t done that since the pandemic. Then a few errands before getting started on my Starlink install at cottage.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

David, any local warnings on Mauna Loa? Grumblings about volcano, maybe just being safe and being prepared
51 percent of Big Island is technically a volcano.

rumble rumble

half the tulips planted, then trip up to Popgadgets to get some of his wonderful brisket.
He was putting in a new water heater in his garage
and when I saw water pouring out of a ceiling pipe I decided it was time to get out of his and his helper's way.
The brisket is a smokey delight.

steady light rain out now

57F, cloudy, and wet (raining) @ 13:30, calling for 57F to be the high for the day.

Very slow to get rolling this afternoon.

Went back over to the barn last night to move things inside and shut off all the lights, ended up staying and working for several hours (until 01:00)

Mostly was digging out perimeter but I also did some straightening up and organizing of tools, plus trimmed some foam board.

Woman woke up around 03:00 and was prowling around (She often wakes up in the middle of the night due to various annoyances like restless legs, cramps, indigestion, etc), I didn't get to bed until around 06:00 this morning.

Hopper feeder needs refilled if it ever stops raining.

Probably make a trip down to Menards later for additional supplies and materials.

Their website is still not "working" on the desktop computer here ... although their mobile app seems to work fine. This is highly annoying ... :(

Then maybe over to the barn once I get back.

Gas prices here lowest I've seen in a while, unfortunately diesel not so much ... :(

I wonder if you couldn't incorporate some sort of tank to store water, with a level switch to shut the well pump off when it got full. Not sure how you'd keep the tank and plumbing from freezing in the winter, though.

Yeah ... our well system does incorporate a storage/expansion tank already.

It's not all that big though ... maybe 40 gallons ?

About 4' tall and maybe 20" in diameter.

It has an air bladder inside which has to be checked for pressure periodically and re-pressurized if it's low.

Pump is set to come on when the pressure in the tank drops to 40 psi and shuts off when it reaches 60 psi.

Probably doesn't even store a full 40 gallons.

Sure would be nice if we could incorporate a large storage tank like you have done but like your say, not really realistic given the temps here.
