Got the old dw removed, cabinet cleaned up. Need to configure a deterrent for furry, 4 legged critters that found access next to water & drain pipe. Taking a break first.

I don’t think we have a full sized Sears left in Hawaii. Local store closed about 2 years ago, but we do have the Sears repair service and apparently that does well. We have a 10 item protection agreement for about $50/month, paid every 2 years. Not a big fan of extended warranties but but this one seems to have worked well. To be honest, I didn’t really expect them to replace a 2006 DW including installation. Makes me wonder if I should be hoping for other timely failures.

IMHO, Sears should of / could of been the Amazon, they had such a great distribution system.

Our neighbor growing up opened a small Sears catalogue store in our town in the early 70s. Mostly catalogue orders with some appliances there. My sister used to keep their books. He came to our house to ask a different sister if she wanted to do it. She couldn’t but my other sister said she would. She was still in HS at the time. She kept the job thru college. The guys son took over the store, and the store closed in the 80s when the mall opened an hour away with a large Sears.

When I was on a startup assignment (around 1970) in Bullhead City Arizona there was a small office serving as a Sears store. You could order from the catalog and there were some items spread around the floor to pick from but not much. That was the only way to buy anything at the time this being a very small strip of a town in the desert along the Colorado river.

Sears was put into the ground by the last CEO, who conveniently bought the Sears brands with a few "friends" after they went into the deep pit they are in now. Sure he got a great discount.

I got the old Microwave out as it died the other day. Looking for a new one, seems they are all pretty bad, no matter how much you spend. Wife wants one of the glass front ones, no door handle, whole front opens. Stay tuned for order and install update in the near future.

in an online class right now, so a bit bored

The kitty got fixed today. She’s not liking the cone.

Wife put shredded paper in litter box for litter, she thinks it’s a bed. Then she scoops out the paper with the cone.

Had a train derail about eight miles south and east of us yesterday. Reports vary between 10 and 50 cars off the tracks, with most being car haulers. No word yet on what caused it. More than a few people have been talking in a Facebook community group about an increase in mine subsidence in that area.

New DW seems quieter than the old one. Looks nice too.

Re Sears. As a kids closest Sears was also just a smallish place, that mostly did catalog orders with very little display space. Montgomery Wards was the go to place for display as well as catalog. Fond memories of both catalogs, but especially the big Sears catalog that was probably 2+ inches thick. Boy was that the source of lots of daydreams. Prices must have been decent as well as I can remember figuring how many weeks of saving my paper route money to get whatever had me dreaming.

My Dad was Sears service manager so I got a 10% discount. He was always bringing home things people returned broken. He had to pay 50 cents for it. Two I remember were bicycles. A broken frame Dad welded, a girls bike he welded in a top bar so it looked like a boys bike. They were 3 speeds.
For Christmas we could pick anything out of Sears catalog with a $30 limit.

Good evening all. 70ºF for the start, mostly clear sky, light breeze. Light wind, partly cloudy sky and high temp was 96ºF, HI 99ºF. Slow start to bike ride, 88ºF by the time it was over, then after lunch, mowed back yard. After nap trip to town to get groceries and dinner. OReilly did not have enough fuse holders for boat charging system.

Day 2 of turbocad, I did a snapshot from google of the lot and imported it into my lot drawing. Rotated and stretched to line up about with the boundaries. Then I marked the tree lines by tracing on the picture. Then located the septic area based on distances from 2 power poles. Not perfect but within a few feet.

Maybe I should have gotten the version of turbocad that has autocad menu system, I’ve had autocad before. It wasn’t offered in a bundle package, and cost more. . Still quickest to google what I need to do.

The kitten doesn’t act like anything happened, running, jumping and playing. I doubt the cone will be on in the morning, she got it off once.

Found out from realtor, who spoke to county, that I don’t need permit or a bond to put in a driveway, since it comes off an existing private drive. Will just need to call for utility mark before, gotta be a phone line somewhere along the road.
Thinking of going down again Saturday to look more. Almost 4 hrs away though, 225 miles.

PJ, hope car I’m waiting for wasn’t on that train.

Roy J and family - stay safe, get well. prayers for quick recoveries

Sears left town and most of BC, about 1o years ago - sad.

Medic Bracelets, Call Assistance - great tools. A friend of mine has her allergies all noted on a very nice (medical style) tattoo on her forearm - I thought that that was brilliant

Mostly - between naps... always been a nighthawk, but current situation here (Sister In Law being 10 ft away at most) means that my down time, privacy, phone calls, office work ... is best done once she's out of the room and in bed ... she has no respect for this being my house, no consideration for my space etc ... it's terrible. my wife needs to get home to help me through this awful arrangement. So short answer is that I was probably still up. I do nothing but bite my tongue lately, I really want to react, but that would solve nothing ... Wife will need to be on board with changes. This can not continue.

I finished a bit more bookkeeping. Been a busy week. Two dump runs also.

The only great thing is that I had a visit with my 7 month old grandson and his parents today - that is always so much fun.

55° right now...high in the low 70's. Rain's done for a couple days now
Wife's feeling a bit better, but has been eating in bed the last couple days
I'm probably at 50%...but seems to be improving...maybe not, I'm feeling achy and chest congestion again. What I read an hour ago was covid relapse isn't uncommon...25%-30% of the cases can relapse. That sucks...last week was bad enough. Well, if I am relapsing, I just hope it's not as bad as the first time...

Morning all! Looks like a postcard day for the weather. Starting at 57 this morning going to a sunny 71 with light to no wind!
Found the cause to my joint pain. One in a million people actually can get worse joint pain from Glucosamine.👋 I stopped taking them and was back to regular arthritis pain in 3 days. Figures I would try something to get better and make it worse. Lol!
Concert was fun and we all had a good time.
Garden is all ripped out and cleaned except for the tomato plants. Cold weather coming towards the end of the week so we will see how long they last.
Not much planned for today. Going to get the wife's car washed and a sister's car too if she stops to visit.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

58 going to 87.

Sears...great memories of their stores, and catalogs...my grandfather would give me his catalog and let me choose one gift for Christmas. As an adult, their store was one of the few I enjoyed when we would take the kids shopping at the mall...spent a lot of time in the tool and lawn/garden sections.

Did some touch up painting yesterday on areas I had done some caulking.

good morning all
should be a nice warm day up to 86 today, maybe warmer.

lot of interesting posts
At least three of my homes got new appliances from Sears. Guy who worked there wore a suit and tie every day, older gentleman who knew his stuff,
and it was all a pleasure. Now thankfully there is a good local appliance store near me, over in Stockton NJ. I know the owner so if something conks out, I know I won't wait
a week for a repair.

Wngsprd's memory of the tool and mower areas are same as mine, all good. Walking down those aisles with all those shiny Craftsman tools hanging up, back when most if not all were made in this country. No Harbor Freight then, this was the most tools in one area locally. I equipped an entire wood shop forty years ago with Craftsman power tools. If you couldn't afford Delta, etc, that's where we went.

been chatting with a guy who is coming next Monday to lay down modified 3/4 on my driveway; he promised with good rolling they could really pack it down and it would pack better than just
putting shavings on top. And then he proceeded to tell me he had to recently pull his daughter out of the Quaker private school I'm on the board of, and oh my, that got interesting. Had to carefully wear my school board hat, knew nothing about it, purview of Admin, not school board. But I had to email head of school and let him know what the guy said. Apparently two kids who couldn't get along.

Told my landlady she was getting a 1700 dollar driveway for Christmas. She replied that it wasn't every day a girl got a driveway for Christmas. I couldn't ask her to do this, the driveway was fine except for wrecking my snowblower. But the paint job in my basement is now fully on her. Good give and take relationship. My rent is pretty low for the area, have a good deal here, and want to stay, so very willing to make investment in relationship. she has brought both her sons over to check out how nice I've made this place. I casually mentioned to her son, who will inherit all her rental properties, I was going to make this property be worth a lot more when I left. He smiled and nodded.

been using hot tub every day. Even using bromine, I still smell a little getting out of it, if headed out to work I don't care but otherwise take a shower. Hot water wonderful on my arthritis.

got the leaf bagger installed on the mower without a problem, other than gashing my hand on one sharp edge. Bagger does a great job, looks like a commercial where a vacuum went up and down the lawn, leaving not one leaf left. Helps to wait until they are fairly dry. I've had tracvacs in the past, more storage is great, but geez do they get heavy when emptying. These double bags when full are plenty heavy for me.

have a great day guys.
