Morning all, still hot and sunny but calling for rain.

Kyle - bad news on the ex boyfriend, sounds like he needs a very strong wakeup call.

Today the wife has to work and tomorrow sons birthday (the RHCP concert was his present).

So it will be quiet today, except for the care package from Paul which we are really looking forward too.

Ken

I'm worried the kid will take a gun to school, and I have told his dad, the sheriff's, and the school's principal and resource officer (who is a friend of mine).
Based on reportings at Gun Violence Archive Texas has already had plenty of problems this year (69 deaths, 150 injuries) so good for you alerting the authorities.

Good morning to all! Low of 58°, going up to 84°. No real chances for any precipitation. Starting to get dry again.....

Kyle, sorry to hear about the trouble / threat. Hopefully, the overprotective parents can put a stop to it. Good idea to have the LO's informed. We went through a similar situation way back when our daughter was 17. Only exception was that the perp actually harmed her.... then the court stuff started. He lost big time. You have to have faith......

Paul (PopG), WHAT? No pics of the finished pulled pork? I was anxiously awaiting the food ****.....(y)🥲🤤

BEF, Lots of things to think about.... it's good that you are asking those important questions up front. I like Kyles suggestion of using the tank as a bargaining chip.....We used an existing overhead powerline to get 20% of asking price knocked off our property. Worth a shot anyway....

Drew, ---- having that relaxing, invigorating soak in a hot tub, awaiting some delicious pulled pork.... just missing some of those muffins for dessert 🧁

Today's menu includes strip steaks on the grill, corn on the cob, taters, and the famous homemade blueberry cheesecake pie! The son and 3 grandsons will be partaking with us.

I was able to prep the axle yesterday, drained the diff, and removed the brakes / hardware. Hopefully, I'll get the axle shafts out and get the bearings and seals done. That's probably all that will be done before changing hats to be grillmaster.

But, before working on the Jeep, we have 12 garden mums to plant around the bases of 4 trees. They are small, so shouldn't take long. Have to keep the wifey happy....

Everyone have a safe labor day!

The renderings went to a friend that used to have a local BBQ restaurant, he makes the best gravy out of it. He is the one that sent the Ribs from Snow’s in Livingston.

Rained a little this morning. Looks like more rain on the way. Picked up several small bush piles yesterday and brought them down to some place in the tree plantings that I use for this. Will rot down over time.
Our daughter informed us about her promotion to GS 14 pay grade. She is getting ready for hip replacement surgery in October
I am trying to get motivated to stack firewood. Running out of places to stack it and I don't want to cover up already aged wood with newer splits.

Congrats on daughter promotion. I have an old mill race down in my woods that I pile my brush in. It rots down quickly.

No rain yet on the east side of the county.
I looked out this morning at some grass that looked like it needed a haircut before our guests arrive. Only meant to do one area that was worse, ended up mowing all of it, including field and along creek. Blew off dust from front porch. Felt a few sprinkles when mowing, then sun would come out a little.

Hope rain holds till I grill brats and burgers, maybe I should start them early.

Actually I got paid earlier this year to have brush piles as part of the tree planting program. They wanted piles of brush to provide habitat for wildlife and offered a bonus for it

We've had some family drama caused by an external source in the last week. My daughter had broken up with a guy back in late June/July and he's not been taking it so well. He actually sent a threatening text (via a friend of his) to my daughter. He threated her and my wife. We have the text, and have seen the proof of texting between him and his friend.

He's 16 a minor, and has a good family but they have been overprotective of him. I told the father, "If my son had done what your son did, I WOULD BE DRIVING HIM TO THE SHERIFF'S DEPT MYSELF!" The mama is the most protective of her son. IMO, the kid needs help, is unstable, and has caused trouble at school too.

We are weighing our options to press charges, get a protective order, or what. I'm worried the kid will take a gun to school, and I have told his dad, the sheriff's, and the school's principal and resource officer (who is a friend of mine).

My faith is what is causing my inner turmoil about pressing charges.

Not the kind of story I would like to be posting.

Kyle, we have some young ladies at church with a situation similar, only it is their hothead dad threatening a 20 yr old kid. He nor his wife go to church. The girls have turned out pretty good in spite of a terrible home situation. There has been lots of drama with this family, mostly due to a deadbeat dad, a mom who lives there but runs around late every night. They homeschooled their kids, but never taught them. Lots of issues. We try to help the girls get out of a bad situation. The dad just takes money from the kids so he can drink.

Pray for your situation. This alone shows your daughter made a good decision to dump him.

Forced myself to do some stuff yesterday and once I got going it wasn't too bad. I had left the lights on in the old Honda the previous day so I had to jumpstart that and move it into the barn behind the Mustang to get to the charger. Battery is 3 years old but seems Ok. I have a couple of load testers that think it is still OK.
Then I decided to give my 2 x generators a 10 minute run. All OK there.
I had been looking at the ZT mower and thought it may be a good move to give it a run as well so after going around the lawn picking up doggie doodoo and sticks in the paddock I actually got a couple of acres mowed/cleaned up. There is some fireweed popping up everywhere at present so trying to knock that on the head as much as possible. We haven't had fireweed for many years but the excess rain we have had the last few months has encouraged it I think.
Needle in shoulder today at 9.30 so hoping for some relief there.
I slept well till 2.00 a.m. and then decided I was hungry so got up and re-heated some rice desert and piled on some stewed apricots. That filled the hollow nicely.
Kyle.
My daughters boyfriends were never that bad but it was a different era back then. Just be careful and very aware as you seem to be. Hope it works out without any more drama.
Have a nice day all.

67°F and rain this morning, going up to 79° today. NOAA weather widget says we've had 1.8" of rain in the last 24 hours. Our full pond concurs. First time in months we've seen water running out the front through the swale down to the ditch. The ground was actually soft again walking out to the barn to feed the chickens. It has stopped for now, but more rain is expected this afternoon. This has been good, steady rain. We'll take it.

Wife is grooming the fuzzy butts today. We have three Border Collies, and all three have medium to long fur. She already had half a trash can full when I walked by earlier.

Sorry about the boyfriend issues, Kyle. These days, it seems you can't be too careful with that stuff. Glad you're getting out in front of it.
Sorry about your hen, too. We lost one a couple weeks ago, also unknown, just looked sickly one day and died the next.

Good morning, gents.

Paul (PopG), I am now salivating...... those roasts look really yummy! You have inspired me to get a couple this week and fire up the smoker. I've been too busy this summer and haven't fired it up at all....

Planting assist is complete. Wifey has been waiting for the small garden mums to go on sale. Surprisingly, they do really good out here. This is a pic of a tiny one planted last fall:

image.jpgIt's about 3'x3'

These are the ones we just planted.... tiny, but they'll get big too!

B5719F19-845A-4C4D-BF48-9A67CC55A43C.jpegD38CC138-1490-4237-9AA3-CFD39D90C2B5.jpeg1B82BCFF-BC64-4287-A895-5B4D33153BA3.jpeg30933A2C-2555-4642-BF54-78E886974CFA.jpeg

I didn't realize how small they were until planting them near the existing plants. They'll grow together and form a nice ball of flowers around the trunks.

Next up will be the walkway around the area. The flexible border finally arrived, now just waiting for some cooler weather to get it installed. We haven't decided on what color stone for the walkway.... grey, red, golden, or white. Any suggestions?

I got too involved with the planting.... forgot I started the drip system on an out of sight bed out front.... it overflowed into the driveway. I usually won't waste water like that. Second time in 2 days.... I forgot about the drip on large planters along the drive yesterday..... Now I wish that the gravel would just multiply since it got watered so well.....

Time to go put the mechanic hat on....

It was muddy but seat time won. Only 8 FEL loads of rock removed in a little over an hour and 30 min. wash down. I almost forgot it was a Labor Day holiday. Pic is before I got off in the muddy field to dump the rock.
Popgadget, Snows in Lexington uses Post Oak wood for BBQing for it's smoke flavor.

had a nice dunk in the hot tub. Since the latest version of Kindle is waterproof, read my book while I soaked.
vining tomatoes about to overwhelm me
I'm giving them out like mad.

Consider a timer for your drip system.

Wahoo ! it started raining. There were masses of green to the west of us on the radar. I was afraid it was going to miss us.(y)

Chris

Hope I didn't speak too soon.

Rain missed us so far.

Our guests have left. Was a fun time. Took them on a walk around the property after we ate. Still very humid. Sent them home with some brats and desserts.
Going to relax.

That's been the story of our entire summer here. Everything kept going either north or south of us, or just completely disappearing before it got to us. Sometimes, by just a couple of miles. We've finally gotten good rain all weekend. It messed up some kayaking plans, but we're OK with that. We really needed the rain. Glad you're getting some, too.

You're place doesn't really look like you live in a desert, Ted. Nice work.
