77F and cloudy @ 14:00, HI 79F, heading up to a high of around 81F. No rain yet, but there are areas off to the north and east and south and west, the latter looks to be headed this way and WeatherBug issued a notification that "heavy rain will be starting within 15 minutes" ...
Slow getting rolling this morning.
Spun up the tiller yesterday, sounded pretty smooth and quiet.
So I went ahead and started tilling. Will probably regret that, as the loose dirt will really absorb the rain and hold the water.
Also brought down around 10 bucketloads of screened compost and dumped it where I had tilled:
That will get tilled in ... once it dries up enough to get back in there. Still need to bring a lot more down to amend the soil and raise the bed.
Did managed to find a buried 2" metal pipe while I was doing that, suspect (hope) it is just construction trash. It was not in an area where there should be any piping.
While I was getting the screened compost last night, neighbor came down with his Bobcat TL 870 with another bucket of manure. Looked real good (mostly composted at this point), although it did look like it had some small gravel mixed in (probably came out of the barn) I ran about 3 buckets worth through the soil screener and it looked like that was taking a lot of the gravel out. Think he brought a couple more buckets after that.
Woman made zucchini bread yesterday, wasn't happy with it - thought it was too dry. I thought it was pretty good (although dry) except for the fact that it didn't have any raisins in it.
Last night at sundown the conditions were just about perfect (zero wind) so I brought up a couple of lawn chairs and we set off the burn pile:
The two of us sat out there until around 22:00 just enjoying the evening.
Woman just got back from talking a walk up there and having a look, reports that it is largely burned down and gone at this point but still had some embers. If the rain doesn't put it out, I got a bunch more wood (mostly ash) that I'd like to get rid of.
Just had a huge downpour roll through, which has now tapered off to light rain ... which will probably continue for a while.
Agenda for the rest of the day:
Dole out the meds for this coming week.
Probably head up to shop and work on welding those plates on the bottom of the floor/deck of the
B2910.
Maybe finish up the new frame for the soil screen.
New grease gun is "out for delivery" (via USPS), so will get that loaded up and primed if it shows up.
Hope everyone is having a decent Hump Day.
Prayers and speedy recoveries for all those ailing.
