No brown outs but close today. They asked us to save energy because they are running low on natural gas, coal, and the wind is not blowing so the wind turbines were not generating power.

It did rain .02" today while the sun was shining and 102˚. Lucky my Tempest weather station measures the vibration of the raindrops and not the actual water accumulation because the water evaporated before it could accumulate.

73F and partly cloudy @ 11:45, heading down to a low of 71F overnight with a chance of scattered thunderstorms developing ... 🤞

High hit 89.6F here today and it was feeling a little warm out there this afternoon.

Woman informed me that plants out front were drooping and needed watered first thing so that was the first order of business.

"King Kong" strawberries showing good signs of life, kinda wish I had ordered more of them:

IMG_1850 copy.jpg

Hope the "EarliGlows" turn out as good.

Hopper feeder was not completely empty so I put off filling it until tomorrow.

Woman had a hankering for some ham and bean soup so She headed out to do a little shopping to make that happen as well as gather other supplies. Ended up getting a couple of Taco Supremes from The Bell for lunch plus an iced coffee from Dunkin' out of that deal ... as well as a 12 pack of Mikes ... (y)

The 20 pots with the asparagus in them got topped off with screened compost then two dump cart loads of plants from the garage loaded up and moved around back.

Woman did some work on her dahlias out front when She got back, need to give Her a hand with that tomorrow and get it finished up. One new one blooming - "Edge of Joy":

IMG_1851 copy.jpg

She said these below were "the prettiest" ... I think mainly because no bugs had been chewing on the blooms ... ;):

A little more clean up done on the back patio, plants unloaded and arranged, staked a couple of the larger tomato plants (including the one which has an 1 1/2" tomato on it):

IMG_1854 copy.jpg

Some of what is still left up front: larger peppers (and tomatoes) that were "pruned", smaller peppers a little beyond seedling stage, and the 5 eggplants that for some reason haven't really taken off:

IMG_1849 copy.jpg

That doesn't include the seedlings that I haven't managed to get potted yet.

Water Buffalo refilled.

More string trimming along electric fence line, moved garden hose in preparation for spraying tomorrow.

Got the 3 summer squash that were slated for the flower bed planted there and well-watered in with MiracleGro solution.

May go ahead and plant the last one that was going to be planted in back since it allows me to avoid digging around the gas valve for the pool/frog pond (think it has a 3" or 4" feed line and I'm hitting something there) since I have room in the corner of the flower bed.

Squash along the back of the frog pond all watered along with all the plants in the garden.

Woman did some weeding in the irises while I was doing that.

Picked two more zucchini which Woman took over to the neighbor lady friend along with some of the ham and bean soup.

Took some tools up to the shop and checked the bag on Japanese Beetle trap on the way back down, it will need to be changed out tomorrow as it's nearly full.

Shut it down and closed things up around 21:30 or so, thankfully no plants to move into the garage.

Came inside and enjoyed some of that ham and bean soup which turned out very good, along with a salad and a Mike's Hard Lemonade while watching that Escape to the Chateau program on PBS. Funny stuff.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Dang....you sure have some talent.

Thanks for the kind words Mike.

Have enjoyed reading and seeing the progress at your place, milk house renos and all.

Great sunset photo with your young ladies ... thank for sharing (y)

I get exhausted just reading what you are doing. :)

Exhaustion is a near daily occurrence hereabouts ... but in a good sort of way ... ;)

Well, you got more rain than I did. Another day with 104° forecast and no relief in sight. All the yards in this area, including mine of course, are sure showing the signs of the heat and lack of water.

good morning all
Buppies said it, heat and humidity is back today, thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight
at least not 104
I wonder how the plants are doing in that Texas heat.
Now that's Texas sized heat...

I'm going to take the new steering wheel for my golf cart up to the dealer and see if he can salvage the situation.
And I'm going to ask him how to hop up the cart for more power.
Power to the people. More amps, more volts.

RS, you need to get those veggies in the ground. It's the middle of July.
kinda wish I had ordered more of them
You really are having too much fun

thank goodness for reminder calls from doctors. I had forgot my next pain doc appt, after my first epidural.
Which lasted all of two wonderful blissful pain free days. I was a new man. Until it all wore off.
I believe he will do one more, sometimes it takes two. Next time having them knock me out with propafol first.
Great drug, no side effects, fascinating short term memory loss of sorts, and if not used as a sleep aid...apparently the anesthesia
of choice for this kind of procedure. Poking big needles near the spinal cord really requires you to not move around, and any of you who has ever
had a spinal tap know what that feels like. I'd rather be knocked out...

Toppop, every morning we send you a Good Morning and hope for a good day.

65 outside this AM. Heading to lower 90's.

No work on Milk House yesterday, did the grass instead. Need to get the weed whacker out and do the walk of shame. From the looks of it, seems like we are still in prime grass cutting season. Weather is watering the lawns and pastures every few days and the mornings are cool with dew. Grass looks good. LOL. We have left a lot of our pastures go wild the last two years, that helps with less cutting. It also keeps me away from getting stuck in wet spots. LOL.

I really need to close up that one side of the Milk House today, but with rain in the forecast, I need to get that string trimming done.

Hope all have a great day today. Be safe.

Riptides, you organize a big barbecue, and I bet you could get three or four TBN guys to come down or up or over and give you an Amish style work day.
Restoring things is very satisfying. I'd be fairly useless but you could stick me on your Kubota mowing the fields. And refreshments. I do refreshments well... :)

Is a great idea.....just one issue....it's the wife's tractor.

LOL.

And, well, the ZTR just beats me all to hades. The wife will not go near that thing, and well...your back and neck would not appreciate that ride either.

65° now, dew point 59° with high’s around 90° today. Maybe slight chance of some quick passing thunderstorms late afternoon.

When mowing yesterday put up quite a dust cloud lol. It’s to bad the rains couldn’t balance out around the country, it’s either feast or famine (to overstate the obvious).
Not much planned for today, finish mowing the front this morning, the rest of the day will be conserve energy time.

66 and clear, going to 94...nice outside but not as good as yesterday's 56, which "made" me go to the mountains early, after waving good morning to the Space Station flying over at 5am.

Randy, so good to get the occasional check in...hope you're up to posting soon!

Kyle, work hard, and come back when you get a break. Sounds like they really need your talents.

Ken, that was quite the landslide.

Buppies: shrimp and grits...one of my wife's favorites. I need to mow, too, but we got less than half an inch from those storms.

I've never baked, but saw a recipe last week called The Chocolatiest Brownies which really captured my interest. So Sunday made a batch from scratch after finding the right dark chocolate at Wegmans.

I'm not a big dark chocolate fan, but my MIL is, so my wife took a bunch to her yesterday. After I texted this photo to my DIL Sunday, she drove right over to pick some up and some fresh roasted coffee to take home. Then put some in the freezer for my other DIL this weekend.

I've only had one, but saved one

Good Morning!!!! 80F @ 4:30AM. Mainly sunny. High 104F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.
Yesterday's 106F high thankfully didn't materialize, but it only fell short by 5°. Not sure I'd have been able to tell the difference.

You folks sure have been busy...
I now know what happens to a car when rocks fall down a mountain in Switzerland.
Still waiting on the bill from the rental car company.
Yikes! Glad no one was hurt. Had a similar experience on Tioga Pass many years ago on the motorcycles. Managed to time it so the rocks flew by in front of and in back of us. We were the last ones to get across that day.
Still around, more later.
Glad to hear you're still with us, Randy. Hope you're back in the pink soon.

even though last time I finally got the lock n lube fitting on problem mower zerk, decided to experiment with other
style fittings. This seems like a pretty good value for the price.
Looks like a nice set, Drew. Hope they don't just make a mess. Please let us know how well they work for you.
Thursday is the day...appt at the neurologist . I'm going to take Thomas' approach.... tell the Doc that I want answers to why the knee is still giving me trouble.
Hoping you hear some good news, Ted. It's about time...
Good chances of rain tonight and tomorrow..... hopefully some will find its way here.
The satellite images of AZ and NM on the news last night looked pretty promising,..

Nice trip south over an extended weekend, especially enjoyed missing any new mechanical misadventures. I was a bit surprised, what with over 150,000 miles on the clock. I gotta say the weather was maybe the best part, at least temperature wise. Not a big fan of overcast and fog, but Lompoc was experiencing "June Gloom" in July, and the mornings were gray and cool, and a sweater felt good outside in the evenings. Yesterday on the trip north, the mist was heavy enough I could turn my head on the freeway and the wind would clear the droplets from the face screen. And it was cold enough that the heated jacket and grips were set on high. But by noon I was over the mountains and back in the Central Valley, hammering up I5 in 100F+ temps. Thankfully that only lasted a few hours, and temps rose to "only" 98F by the time I rolled down the driveway. A cool shower and a colder beer sure hit the spot, though.

spaceX2022-07-10.jpg

We got lucky and last Sunday's SpaceX launch beat the fog, but not by much. We picked a spot on a nearby mountain ridge and joined a whole bunch of other space fans to watch. This one went south and away from us, so it wasn't as loud (and dramatic), and the booster landed on the android barge off the coast of Baja, so we missed the sonic boom on first stage reentry, but I was still glad to experience my first launch in person. I don't think it'll be my last.

Gonna see how far I get finishing up the permanent installation of the StarLink dish today. I'm thinking I'll get the wiring done, but it might get too hot before I get enough clean fill dirt screened to start filling the trench. But I've got plenty of inside jobs to keep me busy.

morning all,

Happy belated birthday Mostly!
Happy birthday Aunt Gladys!

When we did Rome we decided to do something different on top of the usual locations.
So wife got us a Fiat 500 tour. It was fun getting used to shifting while dodging in and out of Rome traffic. We drove the red one and the guide the black one. Once he saw I wasn't going to panic, we went to the coliseum and other crowded sites.

looking forward to your pics Ken, shifting a 500 must have been fun.

groan, carb overload
NJ blueberries are in
Simply the best blueberries, have a wonderful slight floral taste, have enjoyed them all my life.
They just don't taste the same from Chile.

I spent a nice afternoon mowing the farm lane and the meadows. I never get everything but things are in pretty good shape. It is getting dry at the farm so the corn needs rain but the dry makes for easier mowing in the wet places.

We are enjoying summer's bounty. Peaches, blueberries, sweet corn, green beans and zucchini.

I don't know if you guys are still following this stuff but there is a new Medcram video. The short take is that sunshine and hot baths probable boost your immune system.

Even though it is a little dry at the farm here at the house (17 miles southeast) the grass is still growing. Guess what I will be doing this morning?

As my neighbor always says- Be good.

Chris

74°F and clear skies this morning, only going up to 87° today.

Wife and I got the kayaks wet Sunday. Drove over to Missouri and paddled a section of the Big River near DeSoto MO that we paddled a couple times last year. The weather was fantastic, and the sky was some of the prettiest blue I've seen in a long time, with white puffy clouds. The river was a little lower than normal because of the lack of rain around here, but still navigable for the most part. We put in at the Mammoth Access ramp again and took out 11 miles downstream at Brown's Ford Park Access ramp. We stopped once for lunch on a pebble beach, and then once again to check out another boat ramp near Fletcher MO called Merrill Horse Access. Another option for a shorter or different trip in the future. There were a lot more people on the river this weekend than we'd encountered the last two times. We even chatted awhile with another member of one of the local Facebook kayaking groups. It was an excellent day all around.

Took yesterday off work to take my car in for the 60k mile service. It was scheduled for 07:15. I finally got out of there at 11:17. 🤬 Wasted half of my day. The only bright side was The Wife took hers in as well, so we walked over to Cracker Barrel for breakfast.

Lots of catching up to do here.

Good morning, gents.
