A little bit of excitement this afternoon as a 200 acre brush fire was burning about 5 miles away. It is reported 10% contained this evening. The wind is blowing it away from us.

That speck in the smoke is a helicopter. In the foreground you can see the difference between irrigated and non irrigated grass.

Good Evening,
took the 1979 El Camino to church this morning, then had to jump start my friend's 1965 Valiant after the service. THAT was a photo opportunity that I think everybody missed :)
Sermon Series is starting on Philippians, and I get the impression that I need to read that book 4-5x to try and understand my current circumstances.
Morning was nice (t-shirts, shorts), but it rained hard as soon as the service was ending
tried to assist tenant in getting into her car - she ultimately pried the rear hatch window, and unfortunately the window exploded into pebbles (all cleaned up with the shop vac. I know people in the auto window replacement business, so I'll connect them to her.
Plumbing issue with the clogged drain upstairs remain - might need a battery powered drain auger instead of the snake. I hope that they haven't made things worse.
I finally managed to do a dump run, in spite of the rain. The burning ban is on, so I had to bring the paper garbage along this time.
Yesterday, I had a good visit with my daughter, son in law, and 4 month old grandson - that was awesome. Did some cloud gazing, and flight path observations. They will spend this week at an affiliated Bible Summer Camp - son in law has a series of messages to give :) Too far away for me to sneak in a listen.
Truck tires and rims should be ready, later in the week. - yay
Zero Turn is getting closer to delivery- yay
I'm out to feed the chickens, rabbits, dog
Have a good night
Prayers continue

Kind of a productive day..... I went into town and accomplished the mulch pick up. I was really surprised when I asked a young guy out in the nursery section if he could bring out 30 bags of mulch with the forklift. He actually said "sure, no problem, we'll get it out to the loading area". I think I stood there for a moment dumb founded!

So... a little background info----- I have a 2" bar that goes side to side across the trailer at the top of the side-rails. It bolts on. I put it BACK onto the trailer before I left, thinking that it would help contain all the bags.... now back to the story -----

When I pulled into the loading area, there they were... waiting with the forklift, the 30 bags all neatly stacked on a pallet, and TOTALLY SHRINK WRAPPED !
I was astounded!

Unfortunately, I didn't bring a wrench to unbolt the bar that I so thought would be needed..... and they didn't have any tools on the forklift....
Awww, nutz! We cut the shrinkwrap and hand loaded all the bags. That will teach me! Can you guess what is getting put in the truck tomorrow?

Got home and unloaded each and every bag over the fence.... this is where they landed and will spend the night.....

I'm glad there were only 8 bags of the soil... they were much heavier.
I should be able to finish up the project now.

Then off to the now local Harbor Freight for the pressure washer. Low and behold.... none on the shelf. Found one of the associates and asked where they were, being the website showed 10 in stock. Easy.... way up high on a shelf in the back of the store. She immediately went and got a small stepladder and got one down.

Score number 2 for the day... another helpful employee.... will wonders never cease!

Then, off to TSC to pick up bird seed (didn't feel like going into Walmart). I almost fell over when I saw the price! $17.99 !!! WHAT? I know Walmart is around $9 for a 35lb bag, and I just saw bags at HD for $10.....
I asked the girl there if that was in fact the price and she confirmed it. She then said to tell the cashier to price match it to Walmart.... $9.... OK.
Sure enough, told the cashier and the price was $9. Cool. Score number 3.

Now I'm getting paranoid.... why are these employees at 3 different stores actually being helpful? Do I look that mean that I would hurt them if they didn't? Am I looking so old and decrepit that they were feeling sorry?..... I don't know.... it was just scary.....

Everyone have a great evening!

LS - it's all part of your charm

BEF - nice cub cadet

when i was travelling to the dump today (a 5 min drive) I saw a moose calf that was standing in the centre of the road. I think it was probably only 6-7 ft tall - about the height of my pickup, so not very big yet. I only saw this one moose. i came around a corner and it was about 50 meters away, and it just stayed there. i pulled over to the side of the road, to wait, and grabbed my cell phone to take a quick photo. Then two cars came travelling the other way - oblivious to the moose which was now entering the field. The moose disappeared into the hayfield and the bush before I could get a photo. In this area, I typically see bears (a den is on the property), coyotes, racoons, birds of prey, but rarely moose. A highlight of the day. :)

🧨🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July!

Good morning! 77˚F heading to the low 100s and repeat for the next 2 months unless we get a tropical disturbance.

I think Whipper would like an early morning hike on the new neighborhood trail. It officially opens on the 6th but it's ready today. It does cross the creek twice and the bridges are not ready but the creek is dry. I only worked one day on it because of the heat but the rest of the team decided it was important enough to struggle through the brutal heat while I went to Mexico to cool off. Can't decide if I feel guilty or smart. We will finish off the watermelon when we return and then this evening tell Whipper it's OK, it's not the Russians, just illegal fireworks.
