Newbury, I think part of this has to do with the design of the leading cutting edge and what kind of bite it takes.
Those are a little over 3 bucks a bit, good deal.

there must be a pecking order in drill bits, excluding masonry and specialty drills like Forstner.
Why aren't there bits with industrial diamonds? Or are they two hundred bucks a drill?...

HSS, Cobalt, Titanium
what else should we know?
Hardness rating?

what I know is none of them hold a candle, pun intended, to a 100 amps of electricity focused nicely

But I do need to get a set of metal drills. Have plenty of woodworking drills.

I have some concrete hole saws that are over $100 each. Heck, shaper bits cost me close to that 30 years ago.

135 degree split point bits from a solid manufacturer like Chicago Latrobe are the way to go. Typical chinesium bits are practically worthless except for lending to neighbors.
Drew if you tow it over to my shop, I’d be surprised if we couldn’t get it squared away pretty quickly.

My understanding is that Titanium just refers to a pretty golden titanium nitride coating. It might improve drilling for a little while, but it'll wear off leaving the base metal of the drill to do all the work. All HSS is not created equal, hence Paul's Chineesium comment. Carbide is much better, but it's not the hardest. I have some of these diamond drills in the drawer for next time I have to drill the impossible hole. Anybody tried anything like them before?

Yes, the plasma cutter worked just fine on the railroad track, but I burnt up two sets of tips getting the initial hole pierced. That's probably operator error; need to go watch more videos at the college of YouTube...

Good late (Wednesday) morning. Now that the Winter Solstice is over the overnight low returned to let me know that it is, indeed, Winter. 1.2C with a heavy dew, slightly overcast and calm. High might make it to 13C.

Into town and picked up the new script then over to do a groceries run. Not much else on for the day although I do need to drive over to Pyengana to pick up some cheese straight from the cheesemaker.

Take care all.

82F @ 21:00 and clear, heading down to a low of around 74F overnight. LWS reports that the high here hit 98.8F. Gotta wonder if maybe that station gets the afternoon sun, although it was certainly warm enough that I didn't want to be out in it.

WU now calling for a high of 91F tomorrow. I'll be happy to take it ... assuming we get some rain to go along with it (still saying only a 24% chance)

Attic ventilator just shut off.

Headed up the shop this afternoon, temp was down to 74F when we got up there.

Woman provided an extra set of hands and did some detailing on the B2910 removing grease and goo while I was figuring things out or resting.

Managed to get the rear drive shaft and u-joint assembly installed after figuring out the routing and sequence. (I didn't see how it came out - neighbor was under there when we - or he - pulled it)

Turns out you have to feed the driveshaft in from the front and then up between the bell housing/rear of engine and a crossmember that is part of the loader frame - without the u-joint on it (due to clearance) Won't go otherwise.

After you get it threaded through that, the rear u-joint has to be placed on the shaft and the two roll pins driven in to pin it on - on your back from underneath.

Once I had that together it was pretty simple to get the rear u-joint on the output shaft from the transmission and get it pinned on there.

At that point we called it done for the time being as the temp in the shop was starting to creep up (afternoon sun) and I was having spasmodic cramps in my left hand ... probably trying to hold the driveshaft in place while I beat the pins into it and the u-joint from underneath.

Front of the rear shaft isn't pinned onto the front u-joint (it slides) so all that has to be done there is match up the splines and slide it on and then mount the carrier bearing. Will probably do that tomorrow during the heat of the day.

Decided to take a little break after that and have some dinner, Woman grilled up some dogs and I helped her polish off the baked beans.

After that She headed out to "warm up" and I headed out to relocate some of the squash/pumpkin plants around back. There's a working hose bib back there, so they'll be easier to keep watered until I can get them in the ground.

Also decided to try something our friend from up the street had mentioned when I gave her the squash and pumpkin plants:

Put an inch or two of water in those, hopefully the plants won't be so inclined to dry out as quickly. Might buy me another week.

Thinking I should be able to get 15 or 20 Yellow Crookneck and/or Zucchini planted across this area behind the frog pond, it's probably 40' or 50' long and gets between 6 and 8 hours of sun:

Just need to dig the holes and dump a little good soil on there.

Need to close things up and then going to grab a shower and call it an early night so we can get an early start tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a great first day of Summer 2022 ... (y)

(depending on your location ... ;))

Have a nice day Wagtail.
I have to run Lesley to the sleep aponea center again shortly. Having trouble getting a mask that fits correctly. This will be about the 4th trip. At least I get to buy my Super Rooster favourite every time I go to the city.
(can't remember how to spell aponea)

Town trips doesn't get the mowing done. Comparing Wagtails weather to ours.. we had a overnight low of 8 deg. Bit like the desert. Hot in summer, cold in winter.

Prayers for all
I'm sure your wife is ailing a lot more than you can explain here. Prayers for her to feel better.
63 and cloudy. Humidity still relatively low. Might creep into mid 80s

Toppop, hoping you're doing better.

Buppies, sorry so many pills.

My wife and I did a day trip to the Potomac River...nice hike through big woods to the cliffs, where many fossils are found, then along beach. Great lunch in town...see had soft shell crab sandwich and I had an oyster sandwich...I guess I broke the "R" rule. Explored town and then stopped at a vineyard for her to taste a flight.

I think you can see a boat traveling past the right side of the cliff.View attachment 750937
Nice, but whatever you do, don't drink that water....Potomac fever will happen.
Good Morning!!!! 79F @ 5:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 104F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
All of a sudden it got windy enough this morning to wake me up, gusts to 25MPH. Hope it quiets down soon.
We have an Active Heat Warning. No kidding...

Squealing like that means the drill is dull, Drew. I like my Drill Doctor, most of the time. It has a hard time with anything less than 1/8", though. But bits that small are cheap enough to just replace. If you aren't already, try starting with a small pilot hole, then increasing the drill size by 1/16" until you get up to the size you'll need. Much easier drilling that way. You'll get the bolt figured out with all the talent on your end...

What do people do to make that kind of cash flow, Drew? Must have missed that gold ring somewhere along the line. I got lucky this year when I found that State Farm agent and she got me a policy for a third less than I've been paying. They'll probably cancel me next year, though, and for sure the premium will go up.

Was up early yesterday for the drive to Redding for the show down with the solar contractor. The judge threw the case out because he filed in the wrong court. We had a long talk afterwards though, and mostly patched things up. I have access to the OpticsRE data again, and he'll tackle each of the remaining problems one by one. He's a smart guy, but easily distracted. I asked him if I have his attention now, and he said I did. He knows if he wants to go the court route again, it'll cost him a two hour drive each way, with a long detour thrown in. I showed him the mountain of paperwork I was going to present to the court, so he knows that'll be an uphill battle, too. Much quicker and easier to just address the problems. In the packet he brought were pictures of some of the botched conduit that had already been repaired, and I think that may have tarnished some of his golden boy electrician's reputation. That guy was maybe the biggest part of the problem. We'll see, as this contractor is on "show me" probation in my eyes now.
Glad you got your contractor "straightened out". Hope he can help you out.

Ding Ding Ding, blue star of the day award! Chicago Latrobe split point cobalt, and don't loan them out. Get the stub length screw machine set, unless you need longer jobber length.

Work is crazy, things pop up, and I have to beat them down best I can. But....I might get a pre-auction price on a Millermatic 250 welder they have in the shop. It supposedly welds, but gets hot and shuts down. I'm hoping it might just be the fan. Dealer would rather sell us a new $4K unit than repair it. Might have to start a "This Old Millermatic Welder" Thread.

We got a 2 minute rain shower here. 1/4 mile away got nothing.

Prayers guys.
