today I will rethink my issues with that one failed bolt. Probably will drill out the hole further so nut can spin. I simply ran out of energy and patience.

Drilling a new bolt hole with adequate clearance is a good idea...
As far as the hole drilled too close, you can always plug it using a cut down bolt or a dowel and epoxy it in place, than paint...assuming it worries you

Good Morning

daugen- that exhaust is puzzling, probably customized just for show. I can't decide on year because I can't figure out the triple chromed side vents. The front grille trim should give hints, but it seems altered also. it could be a Special Deluxe, but I was putting my bet on Belvedere.

eager for my zero turn to be ready, almost time to mow again. also waiting (patiently ?) for my new rims and tires for the truck. I think the re-homed RooPaul2 will recover nicely, and hopefully fit-in with the new birds. I will be cleaning the second incubator today so that I can use it for the homestretch as it is more reliable. the broody hens are doing fine, but I am only leaving them the eggs that I have not already marked. yardwork will probably wait for better weather on the weekend. I have a plan to re-use an old water crate / 1000 L tote thingy's ... the tote is removed as it was broken - so it is just the base and frame. I am going to attach 1/4 inch wire mesh to the sides with zapstraps or wire, then flip the entire unit upside down, and use it as a "chicken tractor" for the young birds. that should keep them safe, and sheltered until they are big enough to join the others.

My wife should be home from assisting her father this weekend (8 hrs away). it's been long enough

we are getting mixed weather all week about 20 C, and rain, clouds. the sun will shine on the weekend, perhaps in time for Friday's ice-cream cruise with the classic / muscle cars

Last evening Mrs. and I got to watch one of many nature fine moments live from the deck,Boo came to visit laid down by the feeding area,2 siblings cubs plan was to get Boo to move away,1 cub went behind Boo walk about woods breaking limbs other cub slowly facing Boo move little closer,Boo took his paw slaps ground twice cub facing Boo back away quickly...plan2 both cubs face Boo slowly made there way towards Boo,Boo stood up tilt his head open his mouth show teeth gave quick heavy growl cubs made tracks with ears back disappear Boo laid back down took nap...wish I hadn't left camcorder in pickup.

Plans for today...Critter food run,afternoon doctor appointment.

good idea. I'm going to do what I should have done, with a new drill bit so no excuses there.
My Appalachian engineering with construction adhesive always was Plan B.
Plan A was just going to miraculously appear....

I don't expect to ever take this apart so if I booger it up a little in the process, we will all survive.

Morning all;
It's a nice 60F out this morning going into the mid 70's and should be dry.
My self I'm a bit stiff and sore this morning, had my electrician here yesterday to work on the kitchen remodel.
So I was electricians helper and will be again today and likely a couple more days. More
physical work then I've done for awhile. Even the artificial knee was tight and aching last night and this morning.
Crawl space work today and tomorrow, that will be fun, at least the crawl space is about 4 ft high.

Drew, Another way might to drill s 1/2 inch hole in the side of the stake pockets and put in a 1/2 inch shackle. Of course they make stake pocket adapters. I have seen twist drill bits which say in the fine print "not recommended for steel". What is the use of that? Good luck.

There's only one way to do this the right way. Lots of ways to make it look good.
In insurance terms, it would have an inherent defect. Meaning you knew darn well it wasn't built right.

I have an idea for my '93 Silverado ... it "needs" to be repainted. It's a truck, it's 30 yrs old, good condition, 161,000 kms, and after 6 yrs it owes me nothing really. It is regularly dirty, from mud, pudddles, dirt road, country living. So, my twisted perspective came up with this brilliant plan (that so far, has absolutely NO support)
- wash, wax, and spit polish that truck, until it shines
- grab a muddied up photo of said truck from my camera
- make 2 wraps for the doors only - clear background, but showing only the mud splatter, and perhaps a wash me message on one
- apply the wraps to the freshly detailed truck, so that it looks like it hasn't had a wash in weeks
- wait for reactions at the car wash

I though of doing that to the El Camino, but that would just be mean and uncalled for

The name escapes me at the moment(on vacation, was told to quit thinking about work, lol). Anyway, it’s a Norse sounding brand name. Last metal bits you’ll ever need and not that pricey. All of a sudden it got windy enough this morning to wake me up, gusts to 25MPH. Hope it quiets down soon.
We have an Active Heat Warning. No kidding...

Squealing like that means the drill is dull, Drew. I like my Drill Doctor, most of the time. It has a hard time with anything less than 1/8", though. But bits that small are cheap enough to just replace. If you aren't already, try starting with a small pilot hole, then increasing the drill size by 1/16" until you get up to the size you'll need. Much easier drilling that way. You'll get the bolt figured out with all the talent on your end...

What do people do to make that kind of cash flow, Drew? Must have missed that gold ring somewhere along the line. I got lucky this year when I found that State Farm agent and she got me a policy for a third less than I've been paying. They'll probably cancel me next year, though, and for sure the premium will go up.

Was up early yesterday for the drive to Redding for the show down with the solar contractor. The judge threw the case out because he filed in the wrong court. We had a long talk afterwards though, and mostly patched things up. I have access to the OpticsRE data again, and he'll tackle each of the remaining problems one by one. He's a smart guy, but easily distracted. I asked him if I have his attention now, and he said I did. He knows if he wants to go the court route again, it'll cost him a two hour drive each way, with a long detour thrown in. I showed him the mountain of paperwork I was going to present to the court, so he knows that'll be an uphill battle, too. Much quicker and easier to just address the problems. In the packet he brought were pictures of some of the botched conduit that had already been repaired, and I think that may have tarnished some of his golden boy electrician's reputation. That guy was maybe the biggest part of the problem. We'll see, as this contractor is on "show me" probation in my eyes now.

66°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 99° today. We've apparently been downgraded from the triple digits. I guess we'll see. Humidity is supposed to return today as well. Yesterday's 36% made the 95° mostly bearable.

Got 4 fields mowed. Lawn Tractor stuck, Tractor and winch to unstick.
Then it was pool time.
Dog loves swimming and herding us, she slept real good last night.

Groundhog got under chicken wire and snacked on some radishes. More Staples put in to hold down chicken wire for now.

RNG - hope the contractor treats you better second time round and all of this becomes a past issue.

That reminded me. Wife told me she saw a mama and baby skunks out in the pasture run behind the barn when she let the dogs out this morning. We've not had any skunk problems for a few years now. Hope they were just passing through.

that would be a bit of a drive and thank goodness local place has decent selection, cobalt and titanium. Titanium was two bucks more but this says, like our esteemed Buppies says, good for tough metals. And that's what I have. Or maybe normal metal being drilled by a wuss...? Sure miss my drill press, would have made short work of this.

I am ready.

At 18 bucks for one twist drill, I'd say a drill doctor makes a lot of sense. Didn't these used to be 4.99?

84F and sunny @ 11:30, today's high has been revised slightly downward to 94F. Attic ventilator just kicked on. Not too bad out there yet.

Got 6 Red Mercury and 4 Yellow Belle pepper seedlings repotted last night before I went to bed. These were the ones in peat pots, probably somewhat stunted due to a lack of moisture. All the Red Mercury's are done. There are still more Yellow Belle's however.

They're pretty small (the ones I have in plastic starter trays are actually bigger):

Hopefully all the heat and sun will get them to pop.

Woman has been out weeding, says she uncovered all the day lilies 'round back after I showed her and explained the spacing yesterday by locating two in a dense clump of weeds.

She also says the flower bed east of the frog pond needs watered - which is good because it will keep her out of there for a while.

Not sure what all will be on agenda for today.

Watering for sure.

Set up chipmunk traps.

Maybe some mulching up under that big maple tree behind the shop.

Repot more seedlings (inside job)

Maybe venture up to the shop and do some more work on the Kubota ...

what a terrible morning. Fail after fail. Finally had to plant that squash to do something right.
Since the one messed up bolt, my peekabo one, was solid as a rock in its hole, decided with my new 18 dollar drill bit to go zipping
through the last two. Wrong. I now have four dull drills. Could not even get to bottom of the next hole.
Wow sure understand now what a magnetic drill is for.

My lesson from this is drilling hardened steel is nuts; I'm going to get a small welder. Could have done this really easily and without breaking
a sweat with the welder.

Then found out bracket for spare tire won't fit where I tried to move it, about an inch too long and not enough threads. Even with every last washer I had, another fail.
Back downtown tomorrow for some kind of spacer.

I put everything away, soaked in sweat, not feeling too successful.
Time for lunch, then out to get the batteries in cart working with their automatic hose system. Which I have never used before. Bought another gallon of distilled water this morning
