66°F and .24 inches rain

A very nice Happy Hour gathering yesterday with abundance of good food. Grilled chicken thighs came out great but perhaps the surprise favorite was my curry kabocha coconut soup. Curry Roasted Kabocha Soup with Ginger and Coconut Milk | Foodland. I’m sure Don could sub for the olive oil. I added carrots and didn’t discard the skin.

Not sure what the day will bring, hopefully my Starlink kit.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

G'morning. Clear, cooler day. Caught the edge of a pretty good storm last night. Power went out, and as I was looking over my (untested) generator setup, the power came back on. I think I have the right cables to run the house, via the stove 220v outlet (after disconnecting from the grid - of course). I think I will test this setup today, before it's really needed. Anyone build a little "hut" for the generator to sit in, next to the house and out of the rain?
There are a bunch of vids on youtube for a home built enclosures, I wasn't looking for another project so I settled for a plastic deck sized shed. Its been in use for a few years now with no issues, basically it keeps it out of the weather.

i have a tin 'garden shed' for my genny AND the 20 gallons of high test gas I keep with it. Where the exhaust comes out of the genny I cut a hole in the shed and put 1/2" hardware screen over it and held that down with pop rivets. A NO SMOKING sign resides on the door as a reminder. The shed sits on top of 4 skids and where the gas resides there are hardware screen covered holes in the floor.

North Bay trip all done. Outside temperature 80+°F and the temp inside the house is 75. I can handle that. A/C quit on the '13 Dodge, yet the '01 Jeep Wrangler still blows cold air. 12 years newer and the A/C can't keep up.

Afternoon all!
Was 70 when I got up this morning at 5:30. With rain coming tomorrow I figured it was time to get mowing. Wife and I did our 3 mile walk first had some breakfast and I started. Just finished and it sure is a killer out there! I did most of the string trimming Sunday so the rest can wait. Garden is now fully planted and we have a short fence partially erected. Will see what critters come before we decide on the rest.
Both of us are doing fine and plan on doing the retirement thing the rest of the week.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

96 and not too humid, feels like 100. Been too hot to do much outside, took Gracie for a walk, but not too far. A few clouds but the only rain is over in BEF’s neighborhood.

Since I’m in the house I’m going to make a my version of Mexican stir fry. Everyone will enjoy it, or else!

Buppies, save some for me.
dinner time is half an hour for me, you guys are too slow...

92 out, a/c set at 77
I read that average a/c setting in summer is 72 degrees. That would be chilly for me, particularly when coming inside.

I'd just air fry the roasted vegetables using no oil.

Our air fryer stopped working today, it was pretty good, lasted 5 years averaged 3 uses a week.

The a/C in my truck works ok but if 90 outside set to 66 inside then comfortable. It needs cutoff valve for water like on big trucks long ago. Some people complain but if I get it cool I do not care

Knew it would be a hot one when it was 85° at 9 am. Hit 95°. When I went for lunch at 1 pm car showed 107°.

Couple small rains in the area did cool it down to 85°, but no rain here.

Pulled a muscle in my back this afternoon, so I had car seat heat on, which did help the back.

Embarrassed to say I never got new halyard on my flag pole yet. Hated not having the flag up yesterday. Thought about doing it tonight until the back pain came.

Wife wants roundup or something mixed up. She said something broke on one of the sprayers, haven’t made it out to look.

Next project at dads is to fix this. Hope it holds a couple weeks till I can get there.

I couldn’t have fitted just the kabocha, let alone carrots etc.

Ours is over 4 yo and used at least that, using now to reheat chicken.

A friend had a Breville and loves it. I’m leaning toward https://www.emerileveryday.com/air_fryer_ovens/emeril_lagasse_french_door_airfryer_360_fafo_series but the price. Wife likes the French door concept.

We are looking for something small that can fit in the cabinet under the stove. Most of what we air fry is fresh potato French fries, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, garlic and corn taco shells and chips.

BEF- I'm surprised those wires are still up there myself.

Out with the Old, In with the New. Finished last day of employment. Busy with small details, but no machine work. Had exit interview @ 4pm. HR told me that "programming/ cnc machinists are in short supply". I told him that nobody made me a counteroffer. He said if he had known, he would've went up front poking some people in their sides with a big stick.....

Anyway, start new job tomorrow, with tons of HR paperwork, policies, sign off my 1st and last born...etc... Already have the whole morning booked up (with entry meeting), and my boss has told me when my work email gets setup, to let him know. I think he has a long list of things we need to tackle. Pray for my strength, both physical and mental....I'm fairly certain I will be the "oldest guy" in the room. I'll keep my mouth shut as much as possible, and look interested.

Got most things moved out of work by the time the exit interview came and went. They usher you out the door after taking your badge.

A bit concerned about size, but have to replace the toaster oven so it will take is spot.

Never done asparagus, but add in chicken wings, tenders, fried chicken, egg rolls, tater tots, various shrimp, roasted potatoes, potato wedges, cheese sticks, fish sticks, even Twinkie’s early on. Some other stuff but you get the idea. Has become most used appliance next to coffee maker.

Good luck Kyle. Companies here paying big signing bonuses to get people, but don’t pay to keep good people. My company cut our pay this year, by reducing their 401k contributions. The only way to get a raise is to go to a different place.

Roundup sprayer hose had broke where it goes in the wand. Cut it off, shoved the ball up in the best I could, and it looks like it will hold. Couldn’t find jug of roundup. I get the super concentrate. Last gallon was $109 a year ago, surprised only $119 now on Amazon. Maybe I’ll go to TSC and get some generic.

74° and 87% humidity at 9:30.

Little kitten still a terror. Good thing stove is off.

75F and clear @ 22:00, heading down to a low of 69F in the overnight. High today supposedly hit 94.6F.

I don't doubt it.

There was some destruction on a couple of plants out front this morning so I re-baited the chipmunk trap and had two of the little buggers by day's end. Still a bunch more to go I suspect.

After watering plants and seedlings I mulched the lily bed under the kitchen window, also got everything labelled:

IMG_1733 copy.jpg

After that I did all the mowing down here around the house, east, west, and south.

Hauled some trash up to the cans at the road.

Refilled suet feeder outside of the kitchen window.

Finished spraying glyphosate on the west side of the frog pond, also around the hawthorn behind the pump house and the redbud on the east. Did around the blueberry bushes and rhubarb as well.

Refilled hopper feeder.

Weeded and watered asparagus plants.

Got rebar driven for suet feeder pole over by the hopper feeder and put up the pole, the feeders, and filled both of them. Now out of suet.

Cleared dirt clog out of pole for tube feeders. They are calling for a chance of the thunderstorms in the morning tomorrow and a greater possibility later in the day ... so I may or may not get the tube feeders themselves put up.

Last item before I called it a day was to bait the live trap for coons and set it out front.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)
