Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #147,161
had to venture outside again as cover was blowing off the lawn mower.
Need to find some tarp grabbers; this nice cover did not come with any grommets.
Have been watching little snowdevils in the back yard, mini tornadoes of snow.

with this wind it feels seriously chilly out. I got the mail, filled the birdfeeders and then did the cover and by time
I was in I was thoroughly chilled even with a warm coat with a hood. I put a little more icemelt out and decided to call it a day.
with this wind the snow is blowing around, making sculptures here and there.
Will be blowing off the ends of fields tonight for sure.
26, feels like 14 and getting colder.

Felt good to get some fresh air though.

Lou, hope your power stays on. I enjoy the fact you make your power with your tractor and pto run gen.
You have some older iron that probably sees gen duty as light duty.

I painted our kitchen 20 years ago. I think it's time to paint again. White ceiling & walls but doors, trim & ductwork (it's an old farmhouse) I painted yellow. This part took many hours but I bought a stencil of teapots & cups, painting them like you see in picture in that order. I painted a shiny spot each one that faces a large bay window. The yellow matches countertops.

23F light snow falling but ending soon mid teens over night, but the winds are going to howl.
5" snow fallen did some steps and shovel around critter feeding area, hoping ground will tighten up over night so tomorrow I can use the back blade and bucket.

Not much plan for the evening other than feet up watch old movie before hitting pillow turn clock ahead 1 hour.

Enjoy your evening all.

Evening,
Looks like the snow storm is mostly over up here now,
looks like a solid 5" of heavy wet snow and 3" of a bit litter and dryer snow.
So I guess when I get around to moving tomorrow I'll do some snow removal.
Have to get most of it off even though it's going to warm up during the week.
Otherwise it will be difficult to get up the driveway for a few days and then it'll
be muddy and sloppy for a few more.
Brought the new bird feeders in so they don't get destroyed again.
That is a royal pain putting them out in the morning and bringing them in at night.

17 here right now...otherwise, pretty much same as Thomas (about 30 miles south of us), including the wind...

I'm watching an old (late '50's) Swedish movie, "The Virgin Spring", and that'll probably be it for this evening

Did I miss Drews birthday? Where’s the cake
3/13
Happy Birthday Drew
Maybe not the prettiest Birthday cake but this InstantPot 6" diameter cake is probably the healthiest. It is a chocolate cake with orange icing. The lettering
(H B DREW) is made from slivered dates.

Happy birthday Drew, whenever it is!

We got about an inch as best I could tell. It was blowing so much you couldn’t really measure. Supposed to get to around 20 tonight.

Good afternoon!!!! 66F @ 3:00PM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 72F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph.
Maybe get a shower or two of rain overnight, but not much accumulation.

Lots to catch up on, but I'm giving it a go. It's been nice being semi out of touch, not watching any TV or even listening to radio while traveling. Just lots of good conversation.

Always tried to be there first to open a door for a lady, walk between her and the curb, and pull out her chair to help her get seated. I see very little of that going on these days.

Sorry to hear about the busted rod, Kyle. I'd stay away from 4140 if I was going to weld it. 4130 is what you want.

I saw one of those electric VW busses a couple years ago at the Vanagon meeting, Drew. It's smaller than my Vanagon, and I couldn't imagine anyone using it as a camper. Less is NOT more.

The last report had us in College Grove, OR headed out for dinner. Of the three BBQ joints in town, all were closed. We ended up in a tiny one-man-show Italian restaurant, enjoying delicious food. Nice walk back to the motel, too. Woke up to rain the next morning, but broke through to partly cloudy skies at Florence on the coast. Had a snack of clam chowder and salad, then ended up in Reedsport, still on the coast. Stopped for take out Chinese, very bland but filling, but not before an evening stroll. A small shower caught up with us just as we made it back to the motel, putting on a pretty nice rainbow show as the sun set.

Uneventful return to home on Thursday. Bought Diesel for $4.77 Wednesday morning, by Thursday afternoon at the Oregon border with California, it was $5.45, and I noticed it was close to $6.00 in town as we passed through.

Impressions of the Eugene area were mixed. We both liked the flat valleys and surrounding rolling hills, but not the cloudy weather or the rain. Turns out they get less than 150 days a year of any kind of sun, and hardly any at all between October and March. Having grown up on Ohio winters, that's a deal breaker, unless better data shows up. I was impressed at how easy it was to get into and out of the Eugene metro area, with light traffic even on the shoulders of rush hour. We didn't have any parking problems, either, even with the big F250. The added variety in the big box stores was nice, but their added size made for more walking in the parking lots and more searching inside the stores. Living outside a smaller town like Cottage Grove made a lot more sense, then just hitting the big city every few weeks for bigger purchases. So that's something to look for in other areas.

Went for what was to be a five mile hike yesterday to see some wildflowers, and that turned out closer to seven with only a scattering of flowers. Beautiful weather, though, especially compared to what we found in Oregon.
wildflowersTableMountain.jpg

Table Mountain is renowned not only for the spring wildflowers, but for the waterfalls as well. We weren't expecting much due to the drought, and we weren't disappointed. There was barely a trickle when it is usually roaring this time of year.
waterfallTableMountain.jpg

This old body felt every mile, especially my feet. My walking shoes were no match for the rocks and roots, so I spent a few hours trying to find some decent hiking boots today. Found some helpful reviews, but nothing at Amazon in my size. Not gonna buy boots via mail order unless there's a free return shipping policy in place.

Finished the evening with a campfire and a little music from some snow geese overhead. Very different call from the honking Canadas.

Got the forester's report back, and he doesn't recommend cutting a firebreak. Says the clearing I've done is enough to prevent a fire from escaping my property, or a wildfire from burning the house down. I hope he's right. He also said that there wasn't much value in the trees out away from the driveway, and recommended not replacing the burned trees on the rest of the property so as not to increase the fuel load. Based on his recommendations, I accepted the latest offer from the Fire Victim's Trust. It will be nice to put that behind me.

I'll still get a dozer on site to clear the dead wood, and to reduce the incline of the driveway, but those are manageable jobs that don't involve the really steep ground along much of the property line.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Regarding paint, ceilings are white.
When I built the house every room is beige , or something like that. An off white, Not a white white like the ceilings.

One day several years ago before the drama increased, my wife’s sister was visiting. Came home one day and discovered a blue bathroom. She decided to paint it without asking me, but she did coordinate with the wife. She actually is good with color coordination.

My whole house needs painted. Really showing the 25 years. I have all stained woodwork so a lot of prep work.

Went to the Gardens barn yesterday and needed to use the EGO weedeater but could not figure how to load the string. I have the older model where you take out the spool and wind it and then place the spool back in the weedeater.
The barn has the new EGO and you just push a button to load the string - Genius!
For quick view 40 seconds to 1 minute on this youtube. I got it loaded and finished the job.

Don, do you think it's too early to plant tomato seeds in the garden? I worked a little in the garden today. Got a few potatoes planted, eyes up. Then tilled 15 or 16 mounds to plant tomatoes. I had to work on my honda powered mantis baby tiller. It kept dying at full throttle, also making some bearing noise at the centrifugal clutch. Took it apart and did not have the 6305 bearing needed to fix, so I took the old one apart, cleaned and greased for now. It still makes a little noise, so I'll order a few 6305 2RS bearings. Cleaned the air filter, and it still was dying...the fuel tank cap wasn't breathing best I could figure. Every time it kept dying, I'd loosen the cap and then it would run for another minute. Took the cap apart and cleaned it. Couldn't really tell if I made any difference, but I topped off the tank and it ran fine after that.

My old Roku streaming stick has died. It kept dying (like the Honda) not sure why. Bought a newer better version (I hope). Need to hook it up.

SET YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD!

I ordered the 4140 rod stock for the ram. About $175 delivered. Said by Wednesday, but with the weather up there....who knows. 4140 is supposed to weld OK, but I'm not sure what welding rods to use...or if I want to use the mig. I will research it.

Got 1 car inspected today. I have a stack of 4 annual renewals for state licensed plates. About $74 each.

Prayers for our team, our country, and for Ukraine.

Up for a smoke and a pee...
Well, more snow coming down...not real heavy, but enough to make me glad I didn't clean the walks and drive yesterday. The way the wind was, clearing yesterday would have likely been a waste of time anyway
