Morning all! Overnight low of 8C, it's now 22C with clear sky on this glorious Saturday.

I 'trimmed' the ivy on the front of the house yesterday... 3hrs. and it still isn't finished. I'm seriously thinking of cutting the whole thing away. I'm not getting any younger.

The price of crushed granite has rocketed since I last bought some a couple of years ago. With 17 mile haulage and tax this 20 ton load cost 1056 pounds ($1379). Good job the stuff lasts forever, only a direct hit from one of Putin's nukes is ever going to break it and if that happens I won't be around to regret the waste of hard earned money.


Wng, thanks for the hut Pics. Have you ever stayed overnight in that style of shelter ?

Wow! That's some pricey gravel! Ours is also crushed granite. I get the "non-spec" road base. 3/4" to 1" mixed with the crusher fines. $12 per ton (tonne for you...). Cost me $450 for 28 tons delivered.

Have fun spreading it all around! But.... don't get addicted!

Thanks for letting me vent....

All this all started with the DIL objecting to our other son and our 18y/o GS going over to play a 'bi-weekly' board game at the offending son's ex wife's house. (She is remarried and has 2 other kids). All the little cousins get together and have a great time together.

She basically has been bending our son's ear (more like whining about it). Everyone basically said "she can't tell us who we can see or not". Which is not ok for her to do.... considering that she is just a 23 y/o kid (12 years younger than our youngest son (her husband).

Some background on her.... she essentially seduced and took great pleasure in 'stealing' her now husband (son) from his first wife and his 2 month old child. Even with all that drama, we still accepted his indiscretion as his choice and his alone to make. We accepted his new wife and included her in all of our family activities. She wants to have 'control' over something.....

He and she have both totally "disassociated" themselves from our family. The thing we can't understand is WHY? We didn't even have words or an argument with them.

All I can say is "karma is a b***h", and "what goes around comes around". No one in the family will be revengeful or cause them any issues.... we will abide by their decision. It's just really, really hard from our standpoint.... he is still our son.

Thanks again for letting me vent. We thought we raised our children much better than this.

LS seems like this pandemic has caused people to go crazy. I don't know if it is the stress or some biological thing working on the brain. I hope your family can find peace.

Yeah, suddenly came out of the blue. The worst part was that he / DIL were trying to be sneaky and underhanded. Had the lock changed on the mailbox, cancelled trash service, blocked the "shared" driveway, etc.... Then notified us at 8pm the night before (On a Sunday no less).

BUT..... knowing everyone in a small community has its perks...after a few calls, our mail was uninterrupted, our trash was uninterrupted, and our planned driveway is installed. They haven't gotten their mail yet, they finally got a trash can AFTER the weekly pickup..... Karma bit back....

He's actually lucky that he is still on this earth..... he took his brother's full acetylene tank out of his garage and heaved it over the fence onto the stone driveway.... he's lucky he didn't blow himself up!

Family issues are thee hardest to understand and diffuse. Hang in there. And I've been in your shoes....

I believe it's healthy to vent and all families I know of have drama issues. It's always amazed me how children can be raised by the same parents yet turn out so differently.
An example is my brother and I are polar opposites. He's more intelligent, much more educated yet no common sense. I could write a book...just a total mess and constant drama. Made what I consider a fortune over the years now a retired bankrupt alcoholic.
Always drama. (I erased lots of stuff I just wrote), but understand your pain.
It's not good holding that inside. Especially older I don't want drama.
My Dad (rip) would write his thoughts down then calmly but with assertiveness let the person know (my brother) how he felt and how he would not tolerate the drama.
They made the bad choices, you can love that person for who they are but not what they're doing. Basically I believe you have to say for your well being you will not tolerate and become embroiled in their mess.

Well, back from a long day driving.

Not as impressed with the primary lot we went to see. Hillsides a little steeper than I thought they would be. One restriction makes it a no go, we want to be able to use our camper on it. They prohibit camping on the lots. Several deer on it.

Looked at another further back in the country. Was surprised by it, thought it looked pretty sloping in the pictures, but there is a nice relatively flat area on it. Drove the car up access drive and walked around. Corn field right now.

Nice view and a nice big creek at bottom of hill across the road, could hear water running up on the lot. Great view. Church at the bottom of the lot. Told my wife we’ll have to become baptists. Actually 2, 8 acre lots. The flatter one is 20k more than the other.

Some covenants but haven’t seen them yet. This one about 20 minutes from town, but has a VFD right down the road.

Drove by 3 more lots. Should have got out and looked at one, but decided it’s too close to interstate, would hear the noise.

Ate supper at a steak house we hadn’t been to in years. Not quite as good as it used to be, but ok. New owners opened it back up last year, had been closed awhile.
