I remember back in mid 80's going to Lee MA. to hear a 90 minute pitch, all to get free weekend vacation. Super hard sell, wouldn't let us leave until we signed a sale, asked for free vaca voucher, but they said fine print said we had to listen to entire pitch, well beyond the 90 minutes. Walked out, warning everyone waiting in line. As was everyone else coming out. Never again...

Good morning to all! Low was at 8°, but up to 43° currently, high expected to hit 48°, sunny. The wind never got as bad as predicted, only a couple of 30 mph gusts here. The latest forecast has highs in the upper 60's by midweek.

Drew, the pellet gun that I posted has 1000 fps and is very accurate at +/- 100 yds. I never really checked further than that, but I imagine it would be. I was definitely using a stable rest at that distance. I have picked off rabbits at 300'.

David, good luck in advance with the cataract surgery. Hopefully you can get in sooner than later..... The studio is coming along nicely.

Paul, glad your trip went well. Hope that the vet gives you a good report about Emily. I always enjoy pics of your flights.

PJ, glad your work trip went well, even though the ice made it more difficult.

The ribeye dinner didn't happen last night.... decided to make it for tomorrow's dinner. Rather sit back and have a relaxing dinner than try to grill with the cold and snow outside yesterday. We had vegetable beef soup and a sandwich instead. I think pizza is on the menu for tonight.

Waxing the furniture went well. Always easier to do a maintenance coat vs. the initial hand rub finishing that I do. To me, there is nothing like a hand rubbed oil finish with a beeswax top coat.

Everyone have a great day and start of the weekend!

The interaction between the Gulf of Alaska vortex and the subtropical jet stream returns the threat for major cold and stormy weather to North America by March March 7. I realize that many of you are probably sick and tired of reading about that gyre setting up below the Farthest North State. But as a function of a La Nina episode, the sprawling vortex is often recurrent and one of the dominant factors in altering sensible and apparent weather in Canada and the U.S. during the winter months. Forecast rules for the GOAV are easy to remember. If the cold 500MB circulation is stable or stationary, then the lower 48 states and southern Canada will come under a mild, largely inactive, semizonal flow. But should the monster vortex be progressive, and shift to points like the Lake Of The Woods or James Bay, there will be breakout surges of Arctic air that sometimes reach down to Mexico. The saving grace for parts of Dixie and the Eastern Seaboard is that there will often be a Southeast (heat) ridge be present, which keeps the cAk regime from getting to the Interstate 10 corridor. This is exactly the pattern I describe for the first week and a half of March. The chill seen now in much of the continent may alleviate in the 6-10 day range (though I doubt that the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeast catch much of a break from the freezing weather). But that big storm in the northeastern Pacific Ocean will be on the move, with snow and cold over the Intermountain Region. Forming what I think will be a Colorado/Trinidad "B" path scenario (eastward to Virginia and then off of the New England coast). the floodgates to bitter cold and a late season snow event will push through the Great Plains and Midwest into the Northeast before the middle of March. Then, with any luck, the subtropical high in Florida will expand, and slowly force out the tundra air mass. Have a nice weekend, everyone!
How about this toppop and he has been spot on all winter
Thanks for the weather report mister doom and gloom Way to dig it in.

I'm supposed to be leaving the house at 4:30am on the 8th for two easy days on the company dime in a class.

Catered lunch, and a steak dinner on the ol' expense account for the first day. I can actually spend up to $65 on food Plus an overnight stay. Then a catered lunch the next day and travel home after the class.

Yea, he's a slick salesman. It's important to review several companies before you choose. You must feel comfortable with your choice. Of the 3 I spoke to, two warned me of him, one liked him...

We are flooded in. Local village submerged just like the 2011 floods. Some lives lost in flood. No power. Up at 2.30 in a break in the rain to drag generator out and set up so we can have the fridges/freezers going. I took a sim card out of my trail cam and put it in a dongle so we could get internet and news. Practically all roads in our region are closed due to flooding.
Might have to drain the ZT mower to get petrol the way it's going. Only had about 4 litres in a container but it will go for a few hours. Doubt I will be on for a few days. Too much happening. Pouring down again now. Lucky to get that break.

Hope the rain stops soon and you get power back Alien.
Stay safe, no more driving around in the floods!
