I had my truck in for service today. I doubt that the Toyota dealer had 30 new cars on the lot. I imagine the sales people are crying but the dealer made up a little on the service I needed. I was surprised by how many empty spaces there were on the shelves at the grocery store. I wish the economy would get back to normal. It least lumber is going down. That was crazy. I'm as ready for the rain we are supposed to get tomorrow as I can be. I should have stayed in Maine. It has been hot here since we got back.

I forgot I talked to my neighbor today. His 7 year old granddaughter got the covid and now has developed diabetes. I didn't realize that could happen. This junk is a mess.

Cloudy most of the day, a few sprinkles so far. Got around 90, 78 now. Storm track had been moved fifty miles north so I’m not sure what to expect rain wise.
Got FIL’s grass mowed yesterday and took my Toro in for new spindles on the deck. I just can’t get down and do that stuff since I was sick two years ago, seriously compromised my leg strength and range of motion for all my limbs.
Getting ready for the OBX trip, mostly set I guess.
Got my house appraised, market must be hot, about $60k above what I’d figured.

i was tested 4 times a day for developing diabetes last December when I was in the hospital with Covid. Yes, it can cause diabetes to develop. And it is a big concern to medical staff to get in front of it.

Apparently the development of diabetes while still ailing with Covid can be extremely serious. Up to being fatal.

Fortunately, I have long dealt with low blood sugar and the constant testing was ended early, even though the protocol was testing up to the day of discharge. I had a nurse that got the doctors testing orders changed to: stop wasting the nurses time, stop making me miserable with the constant finger pricks, and stop wasting test strips on a patient who showed no signs of developing diabetes.

Interested to hear how the welder performs after you try a few different types of welds. What is it's duty % rating?

I did get it connected and fired it up, very preliminary report. I struck an arc on a piece of hot rolled scrap and ran a bead with es70-6 filler. The initiated immediately at the end of the preflow timing, and was very stable, much nicer than my old Miller. Next will be to try AC on some aluminum, but it’s been a long day.

I did get my camera control scripts working. Now I can use python to move it around, pan and tilt. Will do zoom next. I had to use wire shark to see how the OBS plug-in was sending commands.
Wrote script for the projector switch, but have to be there to test, because I don’t have remote control of the projector, yet. My Ethernet cable is bad, one I made. Never had a pressing issue to fix it, until now.
Changes I tried to fix the video issue with the stream deck didn’t help. Waiting for them to respond.
Did order a different equipment rack, one I have to assemble. If it comes in time, I’ll be racking equipment Saturday.

Good supper from the garden tonight. Corn, roasted potatoes, green beans.

74F and cloudy @ 21:45, headed down to a low of 66F overnight.

Got hopper, two sunflower tube, and one suet feeder refilled first thing. Also scrub out birdbath and refill.

After that I mixed up another tank of juice for the sprayer and loaded the syringe for The Woman to treat the stump ends of those dogwoods behind the east planting bed while she cut down some brush (grapevine, slippery saplings) that was growing under the steps up to the deck that I had previously sprayed. Syringe ended up being unwieldy for her and she opted to use her method: foam paint brush ...

While she was doing that I used a pair of scissors to give the iris their first trimming, taking off about 1/3 of the leaf, and trimming off any that looked questionable. Also moved the pots a little further out from the house, so if we get any rain they should as well.

Then I headed over to the east planting and started finishing up the tilling with the FS 66/cultivator head combo. That was temporarily interrupted when I kicked up a good-sized rock and it wedged itself between the blades and the gearbox. Couldn't free it up in the field, so that necessitated a trip back to the garage to get some better tools. Finally got it unstuck and went back and finished up the tilling.

While I was working on that The Woman added soil sulphur and peat moss to the southernmost rhododendron and got that worked into the soil.

Brought down several more bucketloads of screened compost and got it mostly spread out:

About that time it had clouded up and was starting to sprinkle so she headed for the house and I gathered up the rest of the tools and took them up.

I still need to remove one of the trunks of that hawthorn - it's dead and actually has some sort of rust-colored fungus growing on it.

Then add screened compost in on the front edge/border and then edge that with rocks to retain it. Once that's done the Stella D'Oro' day lilies that I separated last year will get planted along the edge, since they need to be removed from where they are at for the block retaining wall. May dig the big one up next to the front steps if I need more to fill it in.

Have more of the green/white hosta that will get planted in that bed, along with some (or at least one) divisions of the large blue-green hostas out front once I get those dug up.

Probably will also plant one of these which are coming in October at the southern end of the bed since they need more light (more sun = more white):

After I took the tools up, I gathered up the saplings I pulled the other day - including that tree I thought was a Russian olive (it was) - and hauled those up to the burn pile.

Got three oil filters for the Cub and an 18# bag of Espoma "Bulb-Tone" ordered from Amazon. Price on the filters was a couple bucks cheaper per filter than the last time I picked them up at the mower shop.

Scheduled some bills for payment as well.

Then we headed out to Menards to pick up the order. Swung by TSC on the way down and scoped out what they had as far as grass seed for the over-seeding project.

I had called the farmer's co-op earlier in the day for a quote on some Oligers' "Fescue Plus" seed (mix of four types of tall fescue plus 7% Kentucky Bluegrass) ... would love to support them (Oligers is a local company) and I'm sure it's a great product but at $78 per 25# bag, I think it's a little too rich for our blood at the moment.

May go with the co-op's starter fertilizer though which seemed a little more reasonably priced (The Andersons 8-32-16)

Swung by Bob Evans on the way back and grabbed some dinner to go.

Cat beasts all fed and watered, along with upstairs fish.

Need to start working on a plan-o-gram for the incoming bulbs and flower seeds that takes into account their mature heights and soil/light needs.

They sent me link to manual which I had. It was just me not recognizing it was actually working, serial to switch provides no feedback, I thought it wasn’t working.
I have scripts written now to control it. Very simple, open com port, send hex value for I1 to switch to 1st port, etc. so 4 short scripts for the 4 ports. I could also power it on and off.

Trying to work myself out of a job, make it easy enough for anyone to press the right buttons.
