Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #137,821
75F and partly cloudy @ 22:00, heading down to a low of 67F for the overnight.

Just fed fish ... (y)

Bird feeders did not get filled today ... (n)

Did do some banking (thankfully from home ... (y))

Went over and scoped out neighbor's project and gave her a number, she said proceed ... so that will be on the agenda at some point later in the week, once it dries up some.

After that ran down to the PO to drop off some Menards rebates to be sent in.

When we got home we started working on prepping that east planting bed. I got most of it tilled up with the cultivator head on the Stihl FS 66 and then brought down around 5 or 6 buckets of screened compost and laid it in:

While I was doing that The Woman used the loppers to cut down that invasive shrub behind the bed that seems to grow everywhere around here, exposing a decent stand of volunteer pachysandra:

Hopefully with less competition, it will fill in more. But I'll have a whole lot more available from the west side of the house if it doesn't ... ;)

Took two loads from there like this up to the burn pile:

This is the leaves and (unripe) berries/seeds of that shrub:

IMG_1298 copy.jpg

The berries turn a dark purple when mature, and are almost all pit/seed.

The stump ends in where the pachysandra are growing will all get dosed with a syringe with RM18 brushkiller in it tomorrow, and the area where there isn't any pachysandra growing (yet) will just get sprayed.

After that we did some work cleaning up around the dying maple and redbud tree:

IMG_1305 copy.jpg

Got a good start on getting that cleaned up, still a lot more to do as far as clean up and pruning ... but at least I can (almost) mow around it. One bucketload to the compost pile on that.

Bonus: found (at least) two volunteer 2' high redbuds growing over near the maple, a $60 dollar value. Just need to transplant them ... ;)

Removed two large dead maple limbs one had fallen all the way down and the other was still attached about 20' up. Tied a rope to the end and pulled it down with the Kubota. Between the redbud and the maple a couple of trips to the burn pile with debris.

At that point it was around 19:30, it was starting to get dark due to being overcast, I hadn't eaten all day, and we were both tired ... so we called it a day.

Reasonable amount accomplished, given how late it was when we got started.

Need to finish up new Menards order and get it placed, need more peat moss, composted cow manure, and probably order some more lime to hit the lawn again. Sunflower and safflower seeds for the birds.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Good evening all. 73F for the start, mostly clear, calm wind. Light wind, afternoon build ups reappeared, and high temp was p2F, HI 99F, and DP 68F. Humidity will be somewhat lower this week and drop again by weekend. Mowing the part that gets bagged to start, then bike ride then trip to town, then finish back before nap. Did find 5 golf balls today, more than I have found in a while.

Shrub appears that it may be some type of dogwood (shrub not a tree)

Plant.ID gives the picture a 25.6% chance of it being Cornus racemosa, the northern swamp dogwood.

I'm likely wrong on the color of the berries - they may end up staying white. Birds like them ... (y)

I think I was thinking of a different plant that grows here which does have purple berries/fruits.

70 going to 89...I peeked ahead and see upper 50s on Thursday and Friday nights .

Roy, does Margeaux get up early with you?

Ron, great shot of Sassy.

Got a couple of hours of dusty mowing done yesterday, then "scared" the T-storm away by putting the tarps back over the firewood and taking down the glass gazing balls. We got a little shower as it turned south.

Met with another roofer. Looking at GAF and Atlas shingles...anyone had any recent experience with either? Kyle, good idea on metal, but we don't get hail here except on rare occasion, and the metal roof costs 2.5X-3X more, according to the roofer, who also installs it. Already it is sounding like we are gonna get gold plated shingles anyway, based on the estimates. Actually, they really do put copper into the shingle granules to stop the black algae streaking so common in humid climates...Atlas makes a big deal of the extra quantity of copper vs. the competition...they branded their shingles with Scotchguard. Both shingle makers have cut back on the colors they are making due to the C. virus. So we're not getting our first pick, but my wife is okay with 2nd choice. She's so good.

We've received 3 estimates...2 very close, the third was 4 times the first two. I'm gonna ask the guy to check his figures, just for fun, since he also said our roof was much larger than the other two (which were both the same and which matched my calculations). I gently challenged his number but he insisted. First thing he had asked me when we met was to name qualities I was looking for in picking the company to do the roof. I said, "Trust." I think he may have misheard me and thought I said distrust.

Roy, does Margeaux get up early with you?
Nope...I'll check on wifey and Margeaux when I get up and before I leave...Margeaux might be awake and she'll look at me, but doesn't get off the bed. I think she's going to be very protective of Suzette...she's still working things out in her puppy brain

good morning all
cloudy morning and day, last outside day before storm comes with over 5 inches of rain predicted.
going for a walk around the park this morning, then will mow the lawn, and probably work on some office projects.
I really want to save them for tomorrow when weather keeps me inside.
Who wants to be inside when it's nice out?...

Sassy gets an extra dog treat for defending the home!
