I had read about this new drug in the experimental stage and my doctor was also aware of it.

Eli Lilly jumps 10% after it says it will seek approval for its Alzheimer's drug following designation as a breakthrough therapy by the FDA

Shares of Eli Lilly jumped as much as 10% on Thursday after the company said it would seek accelerated approval for its Alzheimer's drug candidate, donanemab.
Sounds promising Bird.

75F and partly cloudy @ 21:00, headed down to an overnight low of 66F. Possibility of showers late in the day tomorrow.

Was 79F in the house when we came in, Woman turned the AC on for a bit to cool it off, just shut it off and opened up windows again.

She worked on the hosta again today, I got the upper and lower fronts mowed and provided support activities for the hosta harvest. We've got a second 5 gallon bucket full at this point.

And we've managed to clear about half the area remaining along the west wall of the shop:

IMG_1175 copy.jpg

I may go ahead and pop the remainder of what's there out tomorrow and park them down in the woods by the house ... after I mow the yard around the house.

Noticed a dead house wren at the base of Nest Box No. 2 while I was mowing:

IMG_1176 copy.jpg

Had observed the male house sparrow hanging around and perching on that nest box ... he probably murdered the house wren ... as retribution for me trapping the three female house sparrows, one of which was likely his mate. Tomorrow I'll check the nest box he and his mate were occupying (No. 4) and remove the nest along with any eggs. If he's in there he'll get a shot of starting fluid ... and then get added to the compost pile.

Ran over and picked up a spare 25 gallon sprayer tank and a couple of run-flat tires/wheels this evening from a friend. Hub needs repaired/welded on one of them. Also got a nice little homemade cart for a welder ... will probably repurpose that for the plasma cutter.

Not much progress on anything else ... though I did get the hopper feeder refilled this morning. Ducks were out noodling in the frog pond while I was doing that. Must be fairly decent pickings, as it seems like they are down here pretty regularly.

Hydrangeas, blue-green and variegated hostas, and day lilies are doing very well, almost hate to move them:

IMG_1169 copy.jpg

But they need relocated.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Busy at work again.

Got home after 6:30, ate quick and started mowing. Got it all done. Started at creek and worked my way back to house. Was dark when I finished around the barn.

Go to bed, do it again, the good lord willing.

Biochar is not ashes, it is charcoal (all black, no white).

You mean like this:

IMG_1170 copy.jpg

That's dirt on the charcoal, not ashes.

:)

Ashes are not good for my already high alkaline soil here.

Yeah, my comment that you are addressing there wasn't really wasn't about biochar per se ... it was more general: about the effectiveness of the correct amendment for a particular soil type ... and seeing the results of that with one's own eyes (it left an impression)

Here the soil tends to be more acidic, so ashes produce a different result than they do there where you are.

;)

Regular bagged BBQ charcoal has too many additives and all the tar and gasses may not have been cooked out. I'm still trying to figure out how to make biochar here.

You probably make it there the same way as one would anywhere else I'd imagine.

Our biochar production facility here:

IMG_1173 copy.jpg

It's a dual function plant - produces biochar and ashes ... :giggle:

Back not hurting today...Yay! Thanks for the thoughts.

LOL, I changed the cabin air filter in the Yaris...it was nearly full of dust/dirt/bugs/leaves. I wonder how it flowed at all.

Malibu gave a check engine light, mechanics call it a "slow O2 sensor" It's working, but it must've not worked/reported good enough for a moment, to set a CEL. Of course I had my ODB sensor in the yaris....

Good news for Sophie!

Popgadget, you need all those makitas to make speakers, and keep that montessa going. :)

Billy, you mind the nurse and take it easy. It's hard to sit and lay around when you're used to doing stuff. I could come give you some lessons on how to be a good couch potato.

Put some Slime in the Beast's smaller rear tires. They are fairly old and weather cracked.

My buddy bought his grandpaw's old, old Kubota a few years back. It is a twin cylinder with a 60" mower deck. He told me he needs new tires, and they want over $200+ apiece for the rears.

Drew, It would seem maybe your nosy neighbor might be a 42nd cousin or something like that, since your family has been around the area for so long.

Mostly, have fun water skiing. I took the family to the Battleship of Texas a couple of years ago, and to the San Jacinto monument right across the street. Both are good places to stop and learn.
Here's their webcam, that you can watch the Houston Ship Channel by day and lots of lights at night.
LIVE NOW! San Jacinto Monument Cam

Gave the daughter some more manual transmission driving lessons in the Yaris tonight. We are now shifting gears, and driving slow on backroads. She wants to be "cool" and know how to drive a stickshift.

I bought oil and filters to change the Malibu and yaris engine oil, and I bought synthetic transmission oil to do the Malibu's tranny.

Not sure when I'll get to it, we are planning a day trip this weekend.

Roy, glad the audits are done.

Prayers for our team.

Another day, gone in a flash. In addition to piddling about I did manage to get the Laupahoehoe end of property mowed. I’ll get the Hilo end (usually 2 days) before I get the remnants in middle.

Sold my leftover drywall on CL. Young lady and her Aunt showed up in small pickup with camper top. Of course my plan had been to just use tractor to load the pallet et al, but this bed was too small. Hand load only. Less than 4ft between wheel wells, I had to donate a length of 2x6 to bridge and small tarp to wrap end sticking out of tailgate as it had started raining. Young girl was really excited, having bought a fixer upper she was eager to learn new skills.

After dinner, guys lost this round of Hand & Foot. The gals just got the cards practically played themselves. We still lead 7-5.

Good Morning - middle of a heat wave out here. Was out on the water yesterday - very nice time boating with my buddy. Today it is back to routine. Bookkeeping and then a local car cruise tonight - should be a good day.

54° right now...high about 80°

Got home too late to mow yesterday...a meeting went on...and on...and on...
So, fed the cats, cleaned up the crap (one cat just refuses to use the litter box)....washed up and made some chow

Stepdaughters and grand daughter toured the Navy Museum and the Wisconsin...had a great time and plenty of pictures (I'll see if I can post some here). Wifey's back was hurting, so she didn't go...
They'll be heading home sometime today...

Got a pair of the Sony noise-cancelling headphones a couple of you (can't recall who) recommended. I charged them last night and will give them a try this afternoon

Did start the corrective actions (from the audit findings...both the internal systems and a customer audit). One has been accepted...hope to get more done today...

LOOK MA, NO WHEELS.
I can't remember (nothing new) who I promised a photo of some tractors that operate in our vege farming district.
I THINK one guy was from Texas and another from North Ohio? Maybe Idaho>
Anyway there are several different makes, red, blue and green that are converted like this and I managed to snap a pic today without arousing too much suspicion. 2nd pic shows the power steering converted to a hydraulic cylinder that turns the trailer.
Some of the JD guys might be interested in this one. You can zoom in on the images if you want.

Good morning. It's still 70F at 1:10 here. Hope it goes lower nearer to sunrise. Fans are roaring to cool down the house. Today is the beginning of our PNW heat wave. Brownie & I are going on a short drive today. We'll be holed up for the next week or so as the local temp go over 100F. Tuesday is predicted to hit 109F. I just hope the weather forecasters are as accurate about this coming heat wave as they are about the winter storms.

good morning all
thankfully no heat wave here, yet...., 52 going up to 82 today in nice weather.

I'm up early because I slept really well. Tried something different yesterday, refuse to take opioids but instead doubled
up on my arthritis meds and tripled my hydrocortisone, both of which I take normally and now back on "stress" level.
Endocrinologist told me six months ago to double or triple normal dose if my body was stressed, like due to an operation.
I forgot....so maybe this is why my body is healing so slowly.
Now that I'm pretty well dosed up, hope to get through PT with less pain this morning and accomplish more than I have.
Taking a nice batch of home grown beets to PT therapist this morning, they look really good. Will get more pics tomorrow.

now about those Sony headphones...I have now tried to charge mine up twice, and after ten minutes the announcement comes
turning off, and off it goes. ?? I might have to return this pair, hope not, they are well made and comfortable.

be careful with the heat out there guys

My wife has an automatic drivers licence. One day she was driving my business van down the highway and a cop decided to check her out. It was a manual which she has no problem driving. He asked her why she was driving it. She said our other car was getting serviced. He told her she was naughty and to get straight home! No ticket.

daugen, you shouldn't need to have them on to charge them. Or am I interpreting it incorrectly?
I have charged them overnight twice. I put them on and within ten minutes the voice comes on telling me it's turning off.
sounds like battery is not charging

Drinking first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 72° with rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Got some parts of table and chairs sanded and first coat of stain and paint on then. Helped neighbor trim trees and haul branches away in evening. Grocery shopping this morning and then back at table chairs.
Thistles are blooming.

Alien, neat tractors.

Kyle, good you are getting cars running without CEL. I replace all the tires on my JD mower last year. $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

David, lots of things for sale on Craigslist and Marketplace that have notes saying the cannot help load. Most of them have not sold.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

I didn't turn mine on...just plugged them in to the PC...red light came on and a few hours later, it was off.
I didn't try them last night, but as I'd written, I'll see how they do today...

In this part of the world I never heard of a drivers license specifying manual or automatic transmission.
