Good morning!!!!

this is 21 minutes long but worth coming back to. Happened yesterday near Denver as two small
planes tried to land at the same time on parallel twin runways. Mid-air crash, no one injured, a miracle,
and the first I've seen of the Cirrus parachute system bringing their plane down to the ground.
I thought one needed one's neck on a swivel driving a big truck but I think that is an understatement for
two planes on visual landing competing for the same airspace. What makes this all the more amazing is a student pilot
on his very first solo flight witnessed the whole thing and recorded it on his Gopro.

I think that parachute system has a lot of merit. Too bad they can't build it into a big jet...

Popgadget, beware of parallel runways. Reminds me of going into a roundabout and for sure not trusting the other guy
to yield

does make me wonder why collision avoidance radar buzzers aren't going off like mad but apparently not.
At 8:00 in the video, the narrator misidentified 17L and 17R with his mouse when looking at the Google earth image of the airport in relation to the reservoir.

They also keep referring to the Metroliner as a jet. It's a turboprop.

He calls it a flying sewerpipe. We used to call them executive mailing tubes, or death tubes, because the stretched versions had a negative rate of climb if they lost an engine when fully loaded.

Good morning all! ;)

45F and sunny @ 08:30, calling for a high of 64F for the day. Five days of 70F or better currently in the Ten Day.

We'll take it ... (y)

Have doctor's appointment this morning, so up extra early.

After I get back from that will remove MMM from Kubota (it may stay off until fall) and put the FEL and box blade on it. Then see if I can't get that cart unloaded from the van.

Thinking about it some last night, pretty sure there's enough room up in the shop that I can shoe-horn it in. Will remove the blower, which is on a pallet, then put the cart in and stick the blower in closest to the door.

Need to do a bunch of tree trimming so I don't end up knocking the lights off the Cub ... but the weeds in the planting beds I wasn't able to get mulched last year are also out of control ... target rich environment.

Also need to run down to Menard's and pick up orders.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

At 12:25 in the video, the narrator identifies the C172 ahead of the damaged metroliner as a cirrus. I know it makes no difference, but small details in things like this are everywhere. I'm sure the narrator is anxious to share the info, however, he's getting things incorrect. Human error at a desk.

Today is most likely the last frost of the season. We're putting our annuals and veggies out starting today and over the weekend.

Planted 300 cana lillies last night.

WOW!!
That is a LOT of lawn to do with a 40" aerator!!!

Was taken with the wide-angle lens on my iPhone ... so it may appear bigger than it does when looking at it with just your eyes. Probably about 3.25 acres all told.

And, FWIW, the coring width on the aerator is 48" (52" overall width)

However, if you're a retired guy...well, you've got the time...and work like that is quite satisfying (to me, at least).

Anyway, tractor (PTO) aerators are big bucks!

Yup, they sure are.

This one seems to be holding up and doing the job thus far and I have no reason to think it won't last if taken care of (although I might go ahead and order a set of those plastic bearings while they are available ... they are only $18 IIRC)

Thanks for pointing out the way ... (y)

Mornin all, chilly again this morning, around 40, but sunny.
Found some poison ivy on one of the dead ash i need to fell. sprayed it yesterday, but it wraps about 3/4 way around.
Have 3 60-70 foot tall, 20-30" diameter trees to fell, all dead and missing bark, have dozens more that are dead or pretty close. some are dropping branches, 2 more are too close to other trees, so will need to call in a crew with a bucket truck. More $ :(

Eric, we had Carp boiled and ground up as kids, family is from Austro-Hungary (yes came in 1800's on that side), Ukrainian and Lithuanian. Never make it myself, wife is Irish/English/Scottish and not a fish person, not even kippers.

Mostly-glad to hear wife is not having more problems

RNG and the runaway cart- be carefull, I like to side park if I can, glad you didn't get hurt.

My uncle at various times when he lived in England had a 32 Bentley convertible, and many others pre-war Rolls and Bentleys. When he moved back to the states he got a Packard convertible. I remember riding London to Oxford in the Bentley convertible, wow did that body flex, waiting to see if the doors opened by themselves.

Stay safe and be well.

A few plantings:

negative rate of climb
unlikely to end well for anything but a mole....

drove over to Lambertville NJ to get gas and pick up what little drycleaning I had.
Owner of gas station greeted me warmly, have known him all his life, and his father.
No problems with gasoline there, yet.

I powerwashed my wood bench outside yesterday and discovered one of the four seating boards was broken.
So my project for today as I do things slowly with one arm is to cover the existing seat boards on both sides with some leftover
cedar I have. Then I can sit down and just sand my way down the bench.

Talking about Beer the great motivator. I read that places at the beach are offering a case of beer as a signing bonus for summer help. I hope they don't give them the beer until after work.:giggle:

Innovative. I thought most summer work was by underage kids off school?

Maybe times have changed.

Today will be a great day - sunny and high 60’s. Perfect.

We have a DIII NCAA tennis regional tournament this weekend (Friday-Sunday) at my wife’s place. 8 teams with the winner going to the National Championship.

Lots of stuff to do to prepare.

Weather should be OK except maybe Sunday.

This will be lots of fun. Pretty great tennis as well. My wife loves being the host to these events.

Stay safe.

41°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 68°. When I got up this morning, the iThingie's weather app said we were getting some drizzle, yet there was nothing in the sky to drizzle from. Swing and a miss.

Got some more grass mowed after work yesterday. We have one spot on the "new ground" near the pond that is low and collects water when it rains. Wife got the zeroturn stuck in it last week, but I was able to pull her out by hand with a tow strap. The fence contractor, though, really did a number on that spot with his skid steers. Couldn't mow there last night, and have some serious repairs to do. Going to need to bring in some more dirt to raise the area a bit. I'll be bringing in dirt for the new shooting berm anyway, so I'll just kill both birds with that stone.

The zeroturn gave me fits again getting the lever switch working. I sprayed all the mechanical connections with Ballistol and worked them around, but it is still hanging up on something. I was able to wiggle the lever around enough to get it going eventually, so I just cut nonstop until I was done. Going to rain all weekend here, so I'll have some time to get more in-depth with it.

Nice pictures, fellas.

Good to see MossRoad posting here without having to chastise us.

Amazing that no one was killed in the mid-air collision. The metro-liner airplane is a tank. When I was flying home from Thunder Bay,ON regularly it was a metro-liner 3 that Bearskin Air used. No assigned seating in those days and I always went to the very back of the plane.
I believe the pilot(s) were the only ones aboard...good thing too!
I'm surprised the tail didn't break off upon landing...

After comparing the Simplicity, John Deere and Kubota garden tractors, all with power steering,
I chose the JD X390. It had a power bagger system I have owned before and has a tilt steering wheel.
No all wheel steering or drive, just rear drive and power steering. Should be fine on this level land.
List price, groan, sign of the times but they did discount the bagger 15 percent.
If we have it my are you going to pay for it, particularly at the Big Green.
Actually they had to order it, no worries about chips I'm told.
In another month I should be recuperated enough to go back doing yard work.

Btw, Kubota GR model very, very nice, but not worth an extra 3k to me. Simplicity well made but I liked the
JD seat better.

my close friend in Salida CO emailed me:
Yup, the flying sewer pipe had just been in Salida for a delivery.
Amazing pilot work to survive!

What a terrible name for an airplane...

I really need to spray but just too much wind. I can’t catch a break with the wind. I guess I’ll mow anyway.
Maybe late today or very early in the morning before the wind picks up.

RNG and the runaway cart- be carefull, I like to side park if I can, glad you didn't get hurt.
I try to park across the grade, but it was steep enough there I was worried the thing would roll. With 20/20 hindsight, I should have parked up the hill were it wasn't as steep, then hoisted the hose from there. Where I did park was where the first 100' of hose ended, and where the coil I was putting into the SBS happened to end up. I should also have a look at adjusting the parking brake. It uses something in the drive train instead of on the axles to brake, and it's not very effective. But I've never seen it be that ineffective. It was also in 4x4 mode, and in gear, but none of that seemed to matter. Maybe it's time for a new one?

Yesterday's mail brought a closing statement from T-Mobile, and they want fifty bucks, again, for what was supposed to be a free trial. So it looks like I need to sift trough all the previous correspondence and see if I can dig up the number for the last idiot I spoke with there that assured me they had it all "taken care of". With all the time I've spent waiting on hold to talk to someone, and all the email I've sent trying to explain the problem, I've probably spent twenty hours on this so far. At $125/hour for my time, maybe I should file suit in small claims court and turn the tables on them by turning a collection agency loose on them.
A few days ago, I went to pay one of my credit card bills and discovered a T-Mobile charge for more than $150.00. I have nothing to do with T-Mobile and have no idea how such a charge got on there. I first tried calling T-Mobile to see if they could tell me anything, but I never even succeeded in finding a way to talk to a human. But when I called the credit card folks, that charge was removed with no questions.
