Good morning!!!!

Thanks for the feedback, RS.

My pleasure.

In all candor, I'm not sure if the deer are even eating any hosta here yet - treated or otherwise.

When I saw them in the morning this last time it looked like they had been browsing on the low branches of a newly leafed-out maple tree.

These the two are where I sprinkled the deer repellent:

And this is the area southeast of the house where we planted a bunch last year which I have not treated. No obvious damage that I can see so far, but I didn't inspect it real closely either:

Gonna have to get on the weeds in that patch (and a few others ) here this next week.

I use a 1 gallon plastic pail for the Deer Scram, filled from a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff. I just grab a handful and sprinkle it on. Went through two gallons of it under the solar panels. I got an email reply from the Deer Scram folks, who said my five year old batch may have lost effectiveness.

I take it that it was not a recent purchase of the stuff then ?

(as in a recent purchase where the supplier provided five old repellent)

My recollection is that it didn't have much effect when it was new, either, which is why I still had most of that five gallon pail left.

IC.

I've been looking at fence charger reviews, but like most anything you buy on Amazon, there are enough bad reviews about the solar powered ones to be cautious. Some companies have good support, some don't. This will be a Prime purchase for sure.

Ours (which is AC, not solar, and which we only had up a short time back in the day when we had a garden) seemed to due a decent job. Got it at TSC, was a Zareba brand - which I understand is supposed to be pretty decent.

Looking on Amazon it seems most of their stuff is rated at 4 - 5 stars. Might be worth a look.

FWIW, the Stealth-CAM on the patio has been in action for almost three years now with no problems, other than that I haven't been very good at checking it or keeping the batteries charged. It uses a dozen AAs at a time, and they last a loooooooong time. Never seen anything on it but me or visitors.

Good to know ... (y)

It will trigger on the hummers, but the image quality isn't such that you could tell if they're male or female. If I get a chance today I'll try to post an image or two.

Thanks for doing so.

Part of what made this such a great country was the freedom for its people to manage risk in their own ways, and to enjoy or suffer from the consequences. I hope things continue that way, but lawyers, politicians, and insurance companies are doing their best to destroy that freedom, among others.

Part of the reason why that occurs is failure at the individual level.

Imagine what it would be like if there was no legal requirement for everyone to carry at least liability insurance when operating a motor vehicle.

I was finishing off the last of the mowing yesterday, thinking about how much faster and easier it's been this year with the bigger tractor. It's more stable, and even though I have caught a rear up hill wheel lofting a couple of times, there've been no heart-in-mouth moments like in previous years. Part of that is because, at least in the upper meadow with all the trees, I mowed in the uphill direction, then looped around to a less steep area to come back down. That or just backed down on the freshly mowed pass.

That would be my inclination on how to approach it.

For some reason on the back meadow, I started mowing downhill, in grass tall enough I can't judge very well what the ground looks like. So when the wheels start to slip, instead of just spinning instead of moving the tractor forward, in the downhill direction, the tractor tries to take off and I end up slamming the FEL down to stop it. So I'm thinking I'll take another swap at the back meadow, mowing uphill this time. That will let me avoid a lot of time with the weed eater, one tool I really don't like using.

(y)

I also remembered that I ran a sprinkler line up to the top of the upper meadow, where the new water tank will go. Not sure what condition it's in, as CalFire cut a fire break up there after the 2016 Saddle Fire. But if I can get it working again, I can hook up a hose and start excavating the terrace for that tank, knowing I can put out any grass fire that work might start. So that's what I'll be up to today.

Be good to get that tank in and filled before you get into peak fire season.

Seems like every time I take something to the Stihl dealer for repair, they change out the carb. I guess it's easier to replace them than it is to rebuild them.

Time is money ... and when they are working on your gear, it likely be your money in the end ... ;)

Good evening all. 55F for the start, partly cloudy sky, light breeze. Sky cleared off, wind got much more brisk, and high temp was 83F.

Sounds like a beautiful day ... (y)

RS delivery from h3ll from where I sit.

It was looking like it.

OTOH, Chapin's packaging left something to be desired ... which probably accounts for the condition of the outer box.

Glad to know it wasn't actually damaged in shipping.

The frosting to the day had to be the switch color.

Yeah ... that was like: "Seriously ... ?"

There is only one digit difference in the part numbers ("R" vs "B")

Friday went a bit better: I won a kilo of NorthFin Cichlid Pellets (very good quality food) ... which could end up being like a years supply ... at least at the rate I'm going ...

It will go straight into the freezer.

RS hope you get a good reaction from UPS.

I was happy with their response.

46F and rain does not sound good

Another week (more or less) of outside work lost to the weather.

On the upside we did get some very nice weather early on, and got a good head start on the mowing ... so at least the grass isn't out-of-control.

RS good new from Chapin

Yup - they've won me over.

Hope your wife is continuing to do well.

Good morning, the weather has warmed up at last, last night we stayed a full 10 degrees above freezing (that is full sized Celsius degrees, not those measly half portion Fahrenheit degrees :D).

It is not unusual for a lamb to get it's head stuck somewhere, though when I left this bit of old railing, pulled out of a hedge, leaned against the fence, I never expected one to take that as an opportunity for an even better way to get stuck in a fence.

That's my contribution to the Good Morning "dire straits" discussion ;)

Years ago I worked at a brewery. At 4:00 every day, the refrigerators in the offices were opened and free beer
My grandad worked at a brewery for most of his life, he thought it was the best job anyone could ever have. They could also sample as much as they liked of what they made, as long as they never got drunk. The worst thing that happened to him in his entire life was not WW1, it was compulsory retirement from work when he got to 65.

good morning all and Happy Mothers Day.
41 going to 61 with showers all afternoon and into tonight.

latest article says one trillion cicadas will pop up in this area of Mid Atlantic, when ground temp hits 64. Pretty soon.
Lots of youtube videos on folks eating them...eyeballs, legs and all. They say to cook like shrimp. No thank you...

painter still has a little more to do, so far so good even if I can't communicate with him.
I told him the paint job "looked good" so far. His response was not "thank you" as one would expect.
I got a "I know" instead. Huh?
so now this little cottage has new electric, central air finally and is painted. All good.

last night first night I avoided pain pills but my I'm sore this morning. I made some cranberry pecan scones and gave them to landlord
and hvac guy yesterday. Normally I would tip the installer but sometimes some home cooked food works just as well. Scone was pretty good, not much
sugar or butter, went well with my coffee this morning.

Right about 40° right now...high in the low 60's today...

Finish mowing in a couple hours...hit those couple limbs I'd missed ( written about yesterday) so I can feed to the chipper this afternoon.
Field's about ready for mowing, so I should remove the chipper and rig the flail mower. Good day to grease all the equipment too...

You guys know I'm an EGO equipment fan. I own several battery powered tools made by EGO. For those of you other EGO fans (and probably other battery powered equipment owners), be very careful buying EGO batteries on Amazon. I've bought 2 (5.0A/hr) batteries on Amazon and neither came with the 3 year warranty for residential owners. In fact, I had to fight to get any warranty at all since those sellers are not authorized by EGO. Ultimately, I got a full refund on one of the batteries (and kept the battery, which I used yesterday) and got the registration card for the 3 year EGO warranty.
Although I've never had a problem with those batteries, it can happen and EGO batteries aren't cheap at all. So, use caution if you buy batteries on Amazon...

Roy, same thing with generic Makita batteries. Mine work fine, but I need to run them through the charge cycle twice to get a full charge
I think 450 bucks for an EGO battery is a bit much. They had better last ten years at that price...
One of my closest friends has now converted totally to EGO and is very pleased.

I just ordered a small Makita line trimmer for 100 bucks, bare tool. Light weight but that's what I want.

I never knew this existed, pretty neat.

Good Morning
42 going to 52 here with rain forecast for this afternoon.

Off to Marsh Harbour again this morning, with a stop in Stuart, FL along the way. It’s interesting that while the Bahamas require a negative COVID test to obtain a travel visa to get into their country, as of 5/1, they will accept proof of vaccination instead. The US still requires a negative test, regardless of vaccination status.
As a flight crew, we are exempt, unless we stay over 24 hours.
