Don, maybe one upside of the cold is that it will zap some of the insects. Around here if something would zap the spotted lanternflys and the deer ticks I'd be ok with that.

33F and partly cloudy @ 09:45 ... but it sure looks sunny out there to me. Headed up to a high of 39F for the day.

Spent pretty much the entire day yesterday working in the fish room, cleaning, moving fish around, etc. Probably do some more today. That might change, depending on what The Woman's plans for the day are.

New monitor is on the truck and out for delivery a day early. It's UPS so I'll track it on the map and when he gets close I'll head up to the road since there's still a bit of snow and ice on the driveway ... just so he doesn't have an excuse for not delivering the package ...

Cost per KWH on most recent electric bill was $ 0.045173. Supposedly we are under a rate which was negotiated by a non-profit - NOPEC - which is an aggregation of communities in Northern Ohio, although my statement shows "Energy Harbor" to be the actual biller of record ... :confused2: Was an opt-out deal ... and we didn't.

Need to finish up Amazon order and get that placed, probably refill feeders as well.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Buppies,

Sorry to hear of the recent doctor report.

Wishing you the best and a complete recovery.

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 7:45AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 68F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
Yesterday was supposed to be a big wind day, but gusts just missed 30 MPH. I noticed the burn pile smoking a little bit when I went up to put some mail out, and stopped long enough to give it another long drink. Another round of hissing as the water found another bunch of hot coals. Probably do it again this morning.

The techniques used to develop the CV19 vaccine were science fiction a hundred years ago, Drew, so who knows what another hundred years might bring. Could it be that more genetic advances in that time will extend our lives long enough to find out? I have little hope mankind (or is it peoplekind these days?) will ever learn how to get along well enough with each other that police and military forces can be disbanded. And don't forget there's always evil aliens to contend with.

Are you sure you're not off by a decimal point on that electric rate, RS? Four and a half cents a kilowatt hour sounds too good to be true.

I ran a a search for "gate opener" at Amazon yesterday, which turned up some hits from USAutomatic, so their policy of only selling through installers seems to have some flexibility. The reviews there weren't as horrible as most of the other brand of openers available through Amazon, so I'll give USAutomatic a call today to make sure what's available through Amazon isn't gray market. With prices like those I need to make sure the warranty and technical support will be available to homeowners who choose to do their own installs.

The hood over the BBQ started having problems a month or so ago, and yesterday I finally got a round tuit. Turns out a shoulder bolt they used as a pivot had backed out, and I found it laying on the tray top next to the hood. And then I found the nut and washer that held it in place sitting on one of the grids over the burner on that side. I had visions of sheared pins or broken welds, so that was a pleasant and easy to deal with fix.

The day before, three old Aerosmith CDs showed up in the mail, and though they played fine, every one of them had cracks in their crystals. One even had a pivot tab busted off. I still have a bunch of spares laying around so it was no big deal, but if Amazon hadn't used a soft sided envelop to ship them, I wouldn't have to scrounge around for fixes. A copy of Aerosmith's first album showed up in yesterday's mail, and you guessed it, the crystal was cracked again. Someone in the postal system must take particular delight in torturing the little devils. A few times a year the DVDs that Netflix sends get busted, too. No streaming here, because satellite.:muttering: And because I like the security of having a permanent copy of the media instead of something that can be disabled with the stroke of a key.

Not sure I'll make it into town today or not, as several items are set for delivery and I'd like to be here so they aren't left out in an unlocked parcel box. Yet another reason to be unhappy with the postal service these days.

Time to get in some horizontal surface mining in the garage, and play musical chairs with the treasures found there.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

They turn the wheel that magically produces electricity.

Most people have no clue where electric comes from, other than the wall outlet.

Had discussion yesterday with coworker, he asked me about getting solar panels. I said they don’t help you ( had to explain grid tie) in an outage.

62°F and 2.59 inches rain. We’ve having a storm. Even the poor dogs reluctant to go out and do their duty.

Plan to get the wash let installed today. Doesn’t appear too challenging.

Otherwise, try to stay dry

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I was wondering the same. We are an ALL GREEN energy town and our rate is .25-.30 per KWH. Not bad to save the world only cost 5X to 6X as much.

Nope - that is the cost for the energy used.

The NOPEC/Energy Harbor rate beats the normal Ohio Edison/First Energy rate by a whopping $ 0.002927 (per KWH) ... :D

The distribution charges (line maintenance, cost of infrastructure, cost to distribute, etc) are separate line items.

The total cost for this past month's usage was $143.92 ... (based on an estimated usage of 1,500 KWH, which actually might be high for that particular month)

Because we are on an extended payment plan (aka "budget billing") we paid $220.00 instead ... which serves to reduce the difference/shortage between actual charges and EPP amount.

If one combines the two bill components and divides it by the (estimated) KWH used, it makes the effective rate $ 0.095946666666667 per KWH (actual cost of energy + distribution and associated charges)
