Good morning All.

23 and snowing already. Supposed to be 28 later today. Snow mixing with some freezing rain this afternoon. The quantity of freezing rain will determine if we get 3” of snow or 10”!

Tractor is all fueled up. I went over the FEL with the grease gun yesterday since it has been working hard this winter.

I hope that everyone down south survives the cold spell. Let’s hope that Ted’s knee is giving him less pain.

Good Morning
21 here and snowing. High of 28 forecast with snow through the day total of 6” or so.

It’s surreal seeing the scenes from Texas on our news here. I’m hoping that they are just showing the worst case scenarios and that the whole state is not in the mess that they are showing. It looks like water damage from burst pipes will destroy a lot of homes.

My trip yesterday went pretty as predicted. Long ride southbound, quick ride back north.

Today will certainly include some snow removal and work in the shop, I’ve got another speaker to get done, and there is always cleanup to be done.

Snow plowing might be interesting as there are areas of glare ice under the snow from Tuesday’s melt. Hopefully I can push through them going downhill.

The discussions on side by sides might be costly for me. I’ve been thinking about replacing my Club Car Carryall (essentially a golf cart with a dump bed) with a Kubota RTV for a long time. I guess the big decision is to decide on a faster snowmobile type driveline or a slower heavier duty hydro. Thoughts?

Still haven’t been vaccinated.

32 and pouring rain, mid 30’s later.

I haven’t had my wheelbarrow out of the shed since I bought my first front end loader nine years ago. My wife wants me to get it out for her but I’m afraid I’ll end up pushing it.

All you folks in the deep freeze, looks like soon you’ll be back in the warmth.

My Polaris is a 2007 750 EFI, I think. I got it new with the Freedom top. Hard top, glass front and back, doors, it's like a pickup. A bit warm in the summer but man it's nice in the winter. I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow morning.

30 and snow/sleet and freezing rain since about 3am. Icicles starting to grow. Our electric coop finally got the last outage fixed yesterday from Saturday's ice storm. A big thanks to the South Carolina coop that sent a fleet of bucket trucks and telephone pole trailers up here.

Birds were in a frenzy when I went out to feed them this morning...they know what's in store. Saw skunk by the porch about 3am but didn't go out for it since it had started raining.

Ron, real nice looking Mule. I don't know anything about them, but always heard good things about Kawasaki.

Rip, that's a lot of t-posts.

Phil, I hope you reflux gets better.

Storm prep yesterday: TSC got a refill of their LP, so took a bottle up there..."bottle out of date." I never knew they couldn't refill a bottle that was stamped over 5 years ago...he showed me my date, and the date it had been reinspected and restamped, both too long ago...so the suggestion is to exchange it. I have some bottles I've bought new/empty and filled, and a couple that were exchanges used for the grill before I bought the generator. I went ahead and bought a new one while there so I could get it filled. Also, filled up the 5 gallon gas jug and truck tank...boy, has the gas price spiked over the last month. Also ground some coffee to store in case of an outage...now is when I need a grinder like yours, Don. Wife made a pot of chili to heat on the woodstove.

Ted, hope you're getting around without too much pain.

Gas prices aren’t likely to get cheaper for oh say, about four years maybe.

We need a Tesla golf cart with a pickup body.
Speed, comfort, quiet, utility
The quiet is what attracts me. Sneak up on the birds...
John Deere used to make a rechargeable Gator, that must not have worked
out well for them as they don't make them anymore.
And electric motors have a lot less problems in the cold too.
I'm sure the engineering problem is packing enough battery storage in a small
area to provide enough range/working time. Wonder how long 4 LI-ON full size batteries would last?
I got seven years out of Trojans in my golf cart, I'd hope for ten years out of newer batteries.
But I sure miss that golf cart.

are there any name brand electric utv's out there?
Very easy to spend 20 grand on a utv, they have become much larger and more sophisticated, and capable.
All of which has a price.

But then I look at the youtube videos of big ranches in Texas, Oklahoma, Idaho and even Canada, those fields are really, really long and
if you can only go 12mph, going to take you quite a while. I'd like 20mph. The world comes at you fast enough at that speed when you are unsure
of your farm path. You keep up 20mph steadily and you'll get around most farms pretty quickly. But out on the open prairie, I can
just imagine, and appreciate, the need for speed.

That's what I was thinking. Tesla (the new Texas manufacturing plant is about 30 miles down the tollway) is missing a big market by not venturing into off road vehicles and custom golf carts.

Sleeting....icing over quite nice.

popgadget - Depends on your need for speed? LOL. We opted for brute strength many years ago. The original RTV is still going strong and has never gotten stuck anywhere as far as I recall. It is the farms most used vehicle.

For an interesting diversion today at 2PM the Mars 2020 Perseverance Landing Coverage begins.

Guess I'll go work in the barn this AM.

It's common here for the custom golf carts to go 35 MPH. I know, I drive behind them in the neighborhood and there is no need to pass them as they are going speed limit.

Good morning, the temperature is -2°F and going to a high of 21. Wind ENE 4 mph. Mainly sunny.

I think I will conserve energy after I do the dump and town run.

Have a safe day all

here you go, the flip up windshield, no lines to block view, can put it down on those cool spring mornings.
Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Flip Windshield - Side By Side Stuff

I've pretty much written off the "flip up" models. With all my low tree branches .. I'd forget it was there and rip it off.

I think the Polaris brand fixed glass windshield, once initially installed, can be removed quickly, as it's secured with four rotating latches.

I've been wondering how long it would be before someone brought up the Kubota RTV line, Paul. Mine's a 2005 model RTV900W, which I think was one of the first UTVs out there. 4WD, dump bed, Diesel engine powering everything hydraulically. Has kind of a funky 3 speed shift mechanism: You have to be stopped to shift, with no load on the drive train. I think that's the only sore point I've got with it, and the new ones have improved considerably in that area. I've worked the thing like a government mule, and had very little trouble with it. The bed'll hold about a half cubic yard of gravel, but weigh enough that I have to help the hydraulics by lifting up on it to get it to dump. I think the top speed is maybe 25 MPH; mine doesn't have the optional speedo. If you wanna go fast, get a Razor. But it won't haul like the Kubota. I put some heavily lugged tires on it, and the tire shop had a heck of a time getting them to seat. I've fixed a couple flats and had to use the old starter fluid trick to get the beads to seat. Be prepared for sticker shock if you go looking for a new one, and the used ones hold their value very well, too. If I had a rich uncle die and leave everything to me, I'd use some of it to buy a new one and get what I have in the old one back by selling it.:2cents:

The Kubota is a nice machine just very little suspension unless they have improved that turned me off

Rick the front windshield that you describe does have the levers just like rear glass

I was thinking you would say that. That would be an expensive bumper. But during the Fall and the Spring you do not want to be taking the windshield on and off every day. Make sure you can get some flip on ventilation. (you know those 50˚ mornings and 80˚ afternoons . . )

LOL.

I got one of the first ones in my area. My issues to date are operator errors only. I am still running the original tires on three of four. We are on our second tail gate. Don't dump with the tow hitch attached. LOL. My bed is starting to age, has a few rust holes in it. Everything else is pretty darn good.

Pretty good for working it like a government mule. The thing has paid for itself over and over and over. LOL.

Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 6:00AM. Generally cloudy. High around 60F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. A little bit of rain coming in tonight, lasting into Friday. Then warmer temps and dry most of next week.

Sorry about the fence line, Mike. Too bad it's not as easy to move a fence as it is a couch in the living room...

Ron, I've used a foam pad on a buffer and 3M rubbing and polishing compounds to clean up haze on plastic and painted surfaces for years. Any automotive paint store should be able to fix you up with the "right stuff".

Turns out I've got a few friends that used to live in California before they moved to Texas. Now they're starting to have second thoughts...:laughing:

Why would Tesla want to mess around with golf carts when they have people falling all over themselves to shell out $70K for one of their cars?:confused2::confused3:

Fooled around with the new shotgun yesterday trying to figure out why I could only get 6 shotshells in a 7 round magazine tube. It turns out that the spring in there is too long and it gets coil bound before the 7th round will fit. I was tempted to cut the spring, but instead I ordered an aftermarket one that is supposed to work and still provide reliable feeding. The guy that sold me the tube tried to blame defective ammunition, but the shells I have measure under the SAAMI specification. That's an American standard, now I wonder what spec the Italians use that made them think 7 @ 2 3/4" shells would fit with the spring they provide? Any idea, Eric?

Town run today, and need to fill the firewood cart and bring in another load from the garage. Got a pot of kidney beans soaking for a batch of slow cook chili, too. That should pretty well finish off the day.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!
